On a side note, I’d like to say RIP to Bob Barker who passed away at the age of 99. He was the host of The Price Is Right for 35 years. I remember watching that show as a kid and I always loved the fun showcase showdowns. Bob was a great guy, had an wonderful love for animals and a twinkle in his eye. He will be missed!
Come on, Nancy. Tell her no. I was doing my own laundry by her age (and I do want to mention that my Mom and I was still using coin laundry at the time, which meant I had to save my own quarters)
Obviously, Luann failed to plan to do her own load of laundry, thereby mistakenly thinking she had too few items for a separate load. Now that there are so many items that they cannot be fit into a single load for that machine size, there is a new opportunity to separate out different types of items for different treatment in each of two loads. This could benefit Nancy as well if these two would simply put their heads together. It would also engage Luann more thoroughly in the tasks of monitoring and changing out the loads, actually sharing the chore and the responsibility with her mother rather than merely jumping on for a free ride.
I love it when Luann tries to get smart like that. I know it’s immature to act like this etc, etc. But the way she tries to pass off these little mischief with her parents by smiling and being cute strikes me as adorablely naïve. I’d be sorry if she stopped doing that. It’s also so funny to see Nancy watching the number of things to wash grow more and more with the calm of those who know precisely what was going to happen.
My daughters decided to do their own laundry instead of relying on me (their dad) starting about 7th grade. Their choice. This is why Luann frequently strikes me as having the maturity of an eleven year old.
Oh thank goodness! There for a minute I thought Luann was going to show some maturity. So glad to see she is still the irresponsible, entitled, spoiled, self-centered character we all love!
When I do laundry I place the basket on the washer and let gravity help to get the clothes in the washer. It would take much longer to pick up each item individually and put it in the machine, like Nancy is doing.
Nancy seems annoyed and not even a little bit amused by the way Luann is acting. My children always wanted to do their own laundry, but I think it was only to avoid folding everyone else’s clothes!
We had a wringer washer at home when I was a little kid, and got our water from a well. So we (females of family) did laundry once a week to save water, energy, time. It took half a day and included the entire family’s laundry.
Tuesday was for ironing… we SO appreciated perma press sheets when they were invented.
I never saw the sense in each member of the household doing their own laundry. It always seemed like it would be a waste of water and electricity. When kids are old enough teach them how to do laundry, everybody’s laundry then everyone can take turns.
Just take your frilly, little things down to the creek, beat them on the rocks, snap out the excess water, and hang them on the branches of small trees. For added fun, do the same thing for the clothes that you are wearing.
My late mother and I worked out a pretty decent system since she didn’t want to give up complete control over the laundry. She’d sort it and I would carry it out to the garage and load the basket into the washer. She would take over with the machine and I would sort it into the dryer while she’d be ready to hang up what needed air dried. When finished, I would bring the clean clothes to her to sort and fold into individual baskets. I would then carry them to our rooms and we would put them away as we waited for the next load to be completed.

Don’t back off, Nancy. Luann is to follow the rules of the house. One or two things as a favor, fine, but you don’t give up your laundry time for her.

As long as Lu remains in the nest, she will continue to act like a little girl. I mean – isn’t she 20?

Luann, here are the instructions on how to do your own laundry:
1. Spray Shout on any stains; rub.
2. Dump clothes into the washer.
3. Choose the right detergent and add the proper amount to the clothes.
4. Set the water temperature and load size.
5. Turn on the washer; hear the water start.
6. Let washer do its work, but check every now and then.
7. At the rinse cycle, add fabric softener, like Downy.
8. When clothes are done, take them out of the washer and place on hangers. Or dump them into the dryer.
9. Let dry. This will take hours.
10. Take dry, clean clothes to your room and hang them up.
11. DO NOT dump them into a pile in your room.
12. Don’t dump your laundry on your mom. She’s not your maid.

It’s cute how Luann “tricks” other people into doing her laundry (she can’t operate a washing machine) and they play along.

No one caught in the second panel that Luann wanted a “white” washed with colors? I would guess those are undies. Luann, they may come back blueish.

It’s taking her more time to play this little game than it would to actually do her own laundry.

Mentally…Lann is NOT a big girl. On another side note, Bob Barker chose his own successor. He inisted on Drew Cary taking over the role he played.
