I believe in gun ownership, but this strip is on the money. Although most gun owners are okay, there are “gun nuts” all over the place. And they give responsible people a bad name.
when the nra blames hollywood and video games during that press conference. they had an exhibit at their firearms museum called hollywood guns executive produced by lapierre. they debuted a video game app of shooting guns at coffin shaped targets. plus, if they think there is a cause and effect of video games, then, why are there not a flood of great sports(football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, racers, tennis, etc…)players, since people play sports video games. or, why isn’t it true that turtles throw hammers and shoot fireballs in real life. or, eating mushrooms make you taller by a factor of 2. or, killing your opponent in a first person shooter(halo, call of duty), that your opponent will respawn in real life(if that was true, then hitler, osama bin laden, and all the evil people will never die). and, what is wrong of having universal background checks for all gun transactions?
This comic seems misguided. Logically, if the people were going to heaven, they weren’t irresponsible with their guns. They weren’t behind mass shootings or homicides or anything like that. What’s wrong with letting those decent people hang onto their guns?
Are there any over-reaching governments in Heaven? How about criminals with guns or knives? Any terrorists getting ready to kill people in Heaven? How about hate groups or muggers? If not, then no guns are needed in Heaven and I’m fine with leaving mine at home.
Some of y’all got some fascinating notions of heaven . . . can’t begin to imagine where they CAME from unless it’s the comics, which are not usually to be taken literally.
Maybe I shouldn’t take the comments literally, ya s’pose?
OK, now we have another comic strip that was a comic strip but is now headed for the trash, with out being read. It should be put in with the rest of the political crap. It doesn’t deserve to be here with the rest of the comics. Political crap draws idiots as you can see. Might be best just to drop the comment section. Just read vwdualnomand’s section. Crap.
The primary reason for weapon control through history is to keep populations from rebelling against tyrants. One of the first things Hitler did on assuming office was to ban guns.
It is not the Christians doing the shootings. It is people who are criminal, sick, evil or just plain stupid. They do not care about Man’s Law or God’s. There were at least two mass knife attacks in the last year that I read about. One, in gun-controlled China, took ten lives. So we should ban knives, huh? I think that this cartoon is rude.
With Gideon’s sword and Moses’ Staff, and the weapons of mass destruction that the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse have in heaven’s arsenal, taking a gun to heaven is like taking a knife to a nuclear war. Evil is the enemy.,
I am sick and tired of the NRA getting all the blame for shooting… what about the nut job that did the shooting? doesn’t he bear any responsibility? apparently in this land of mis-guided libtards no.
There is a simple test that any firearms policy measure must pass before it should be given any serious consideration. Would it have stopped Adam Lanza?
Would different regulations on gun purchasing, such as background checks, gun-a-month rules, and so forth have stopped him? No. He killed his mother and stole her guns.
Would a ban on semi-automatic rifles and large clips have stopped him? He did not have to maintain a high rate of fire to do what he did. In the ten minutes he was shooting, he fired 50 to 100 rounds. That’s one shot every six to twelve seconds. You can do that with a single-shot rifle if you’re reasonably agile.
Would a gun safety class have stopped him? By all acounts, he was reasonably proficient with fireamrs, having been quite properly trained by his mother and having spent significant time on the range.
Would a gun license requirement have stopped him? I don’t see why. He was already too young to own a gun in Connecticut, and he obtained his guns by killing his own mother and taking her guns.
So, you see, it’s not easy to come up with “common-sense” gun laws that would stop Adam Lanza. It’s never easy to stop someone who’s both willing to kill and willing to die.
In my opinion, we need to do three things:
1. Focus on creating security systems for schools that will be effective against violent people, whether those people are using guns (as in the USA) or knives (as in China.) The government of China has issued a directive that all elementary and middle schools in the country shall have security people on site. Odd to find the PRC and the NRA on the same side of any issue, but there it is. While we wring our hands over our budget issues, the Chinese are taking action. Who’s in the lead here?
2. Devote a really substantial effort to figuring out how to identify people at risk to commit rampage violence. The biggest common factor in all these stories is that the behavior came out of the blue – except it didn’t come out of the blue once the truth comes out about all the signs that nobody noticed.
3. As a culture, take a look in the mirror and admit that we have inculcated an intense love of and glorification of violence. And then decide to do something about it.
We love to try to solve our problems by manipulating our hardware. That saves us the trauma of admitting that our problem is ourselves, not our pieces of metal. If that doesn’t change, it won’t matter what else we do.
There are a lot of clueless people here. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or target shooting. It was placed by patriots who had just fought a war to free themselves from an oppressive government. These patriots were wise enough to know that even the government that they were so carefully crafting could one day become so oppressive that the citizens it ruled would need to throw it off. If the 2nd Amendment goes, which one would you like to see scrapped next?
What’s ironic is 30 years ago, the NRA was in favor of controlling certain kinds of mass weapons. Then they found out they could make more money by exploiting people’s fears.
I am afraid that many things have to be explained to Americans. It seems that most of the Americans who support NRA, Tea Bags and the like are just not getting it.
Wayne LaPierre had an excellent opportunity to start a conversation about responsible gun ownership, specifically, locking up your arsenals in good gun safes. It’s a perfect position for the NRA to take: it puts at least a tiny amount of burden on gun enthusiasts to help fix this problem of mass shootings without actually asking them to give up their weapons. An NRA passionately and publicly lobbying their members to keep their arsenals locked up would have fewer public relations issues than an NRA wanting to arm teachers and principals.
It’s really scary to think – but almost anywhere you go in this country, someone nearby may be carrying a hidden gun, thinking they need to “protect” themselves from imaginary enemies.
your precious 1st Amendment is guaranteed by the 2nd. Those two along with all of the other amendments and the constitution itself are the highest law of the land. They represent a group of laws to assure us our freedoms and rights to live and no one has the responsibility to promote one over another or to selectively choose which one is more important or necessary. If you don’t like the arrangement, move, you will probably not find anywhere else where you can open your mouth and speak your mind so freely as here. I used to enjoy this strip, but not anymore.
The same old saw. Pass more laws and make the USA more of a police state than it already is. Why not just enforce all of the laws already on the books and see what happens. Oh, I’m sorry. I did not mean to crush the liberal budget with such revolutionary talk.
Hmm, me thinks that if the American government decided to turn on it’s people, gun ownership is not going to stop them. Tanks, fighter jets, bombs, missiles, drones . . . sorry, you’re not going to beat them with your gun hoard. It’s time to let go of the imaginary enemy and have a real conversation about gun control.
libs used to say that roadrunner cartoons were too violent and caused street violence. No guns in heaven, no violence in heaven, no criminals in heaven, and no need for a bill of rights in heaven.this cartoon is funny but, as Artie Johnson used to say, stupid.
like some gun is going to stop the Government, with drones, the FBI, CIA, Homeland insecurity, etc, some gun nut is going to stand up to that kind of firepower. it is all about penis envy.
We don’t need any more NEW laws. what we need is a government that will enforce the laws currently on the books by getting off their dead asses and passing a budget to fund the enforcemnet agencies that are supposed to. Trying to ban certain styles of magazines, guns, etc., is just the first step. And no, I’m not one of the “over zealous wackadoodles”. Just a firm believer in the constitution and the sad fact that the current occupants of the 3 branches of the government are not following their oath of office.
@exoticdoc2I’m not going to get into what heaven would be like, but I do know one thing, guns were designed to kill people. A car is designed for trahsportation. A baseball bat is designed to hit a ball. Anything, from a dish towel to a can of Drano, can be used to take someone out, but that’s not what they were designed for. When the ancient Chinese developed gun powder it was discovered it could be used to throw a projectile to take people out. Later we used firearms as a replacement for spears and bows and arrows for hunting or to shoot at targets for fun, but the first guns weren’t used to take down a deer, it was used as a weapon.
“They said: “Who has hate in his soul? Who has envied his neighbour?Let him arise and control both that man and his labour.”They said: “Who is eaten by sloth? Whose unthrift has destroyed him?He shall levy a tribute from all because none have employed him.”They said: “Who hath toiled, who hath striven, and gathered possession?Let him be spoiled. He hath given full proof of transgression.””
I don’t read political commentary comics for a reason. Since you want to be like Dan Pirarro and use your comic as a platform for your personal politics I will do with yours what I did with his – stop reading them.
you might want to stay out of politics if you want to keep 1/2 your readers. obviously guns wont be ‘needed’ in heaven but here on earth they are necessary for a free state to exist.
For those of you saying that comic writers and comedians should stay away from politics, stop and take a deep breath. America and many other nations have a long, long history of comedians and writers who poke fun at the political topics of the day. It is one of the many ways of examining our culture, for better or for worse. You may not agree with what a particular writer has to say and you don’t need to, but this is part of how our culture wrestles with hard topics and has conversations (or arguments) about them. Remember Mark Twain? He certainly ruffled a lot of feathers in his day, but is considered to be one of the greatest American writers ever. Should he have kept silent too?
Merely an observation: On September 11, 2001 a handful of terrorists killed thousands of people using box cutters as their initial weapon. On April 19, 1995 Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people using fertilizer. The point is, if someone wants to kill a lot of people, they will.
guns? Who cares about 2nd rate pea shooters when you can play with volcanos, meteors, and flip galaxies around like marbles?.‘em as can’t handle the 2nd law of thermodynamics won’t make it as far as this checkpoint.
Time to get in hot, hot water…-The 2nd Amendment guarantees all US citizens the right to “keep and bear arms,” which means we can own or possess them, and can carry and use them. It also guarantees that this right “shall not be infringed,” which means no gun control. This remains the law of the land, so debating it legally is foolish.-However, the Constitution also did not afford women or minorities full rights. An enlightened society realized this was immoral and unreasonable and moved to correct an errant document. This means that the Constitution is not sacred, sacrosanct, or has rights “enshrined,” as if God Himself wrote it. He did not. Sometimes short sighted humans wrote it. At least one amendment has been repealed when people realized it was wrong.-Here is the statement gun advocates are terrified of hearing (that’s why they threaten to leave), and gun control advocates are terrified of saying. I am neither, so will say it:-“Maybe it’s time to consider that the 2nd Amendment is unreasonable and immoral for our times, and it should be either repealed or modified.”-The problem with it is that whole “shall not be infringed” phrase. Irresponsible or amoral people need to have this right infringed. And responsible, moral gun owners need to stop leaving their guns in their bedside table, leaning up against the wall in a closet, or in a rack in their pickup back window, or anywhere that is not secured.-Is there too much violence in entertainment? Yes, and it should be curtailed (that’s right, the 1st Amendment has been co-opted by immoral people, too, and it may need to be modified). But the presence of so much violence (and we are affected by it) is actually an argument FOR gun control. Just try to take violent media from the gun enthusiasts; they will fight just hard as if you tried to take their guns.-Is there ineffective and underfunded work being done to help the mentally ill? Yes, and that needs to change. Federal and state governments typically put such treatment last on their list of recognized illnesses. Doctors do little more than guess at treating it. But, once again, this is an argument FOR gun control. There are two many unsecured weapons out there to insure that the mentally ill cannot get their hands on them.-This past weekend Arizona was treated to another in an endless train of 2-day public gun shows, and sales were brisk. AZ has the weakest laws regarding guns in the country. Notably, the show ran out of bullets early Saturday morning. China makes most of the ammo sold here, and the biggest buyer of ammo is the US Government. The 2nd Amendment does NOT guarantee people access to bullets. If the government wanted to disarm you, they could easily and legally empty the shelves of ammunition. Then our guns would be little more than expensive baseball bats.-Get real. Do whatever it takes to prevent another Sandy Hook. Our children are worth giving up our pride and paranoia, and they are worth making their future safer. It won’t stop it all, but if it just stops ONE from shooting up a classroom of 6-yr. olds, then it will be worth it.
I don’t see this as an anti-gun comic. What it is saying is just being smart. Most people wouldn’t think that you would need guns in heaven becuase it is the epitome of justice and goodness. Just as one would not thing that guns need to be in school, but the fact remains that some people (mostly law enforcement or crazy shooters) still take guns to schools and places where you wouldn’t need them. This comic is not about guns or no heaven, it’s about humankind and the idiocy they show at various times.
Well here’s the straight scoop. God is omnipotent and therefore a dictator. He created and watches over the whole shebang. While it is possible a democracy can evolve into a dictatorship vis-a-vis Hitler in Germany and Chavez in Venezuela, we are not there yet although it appears Obama would take us there in a flash if he could. We gained our liberty because we had guns to free us from an aggressive government. The framers knew a dictatorship was always possible, particularly whenever those riding in the wagon began to outnumber those hauling it. We are approaching that possibility now and the 2d amendment is even more important than it has ever been. If and more likely when, the entire edifice collapses, those of us concerned about protecting our families and stuff from the marauding urban gangs loosed upon the countryside, an AK47 with a full 30 round magazine will serve us better than a Glock handgun with a 7 round magazine.
There was a skeet shooter who passed away and awoke in a nice room with fresh coffee on the table and breakfast. He dressed and went outside where he was greeted by a man in blue jeans and flannel shirt who told him they were going to spend the day at the range. They walked a short way to a skeet range where he was handed a Krieghoff and he began to shoot skeet. He had a great time, shot the first 50 and was half way into the second round when he underestimated his lead and has he pulled the trigger he knew he had missed, but the clay broke. He though that odd and on the next pull fired behind the bird and it smoked. The next bird he shot straight into the air and the bird shattered. He turned to the man in flannel and said, “I can’t miss ! Whose idea of heaven is this ?” The man looked at him coldly and replied, “Who says you’re in heaven ?”
This strip assumes that americans are focused on getting INTO heaven. The people that commit these crimes have no thought beyond the here and now. If religion were more prevalent in american society, hollywood and video games these incidents would much less frequent!
I applaud President Obama, Governor Cuomo, and Cartoonist Wiley Miller for their gun control initiatives. The 2nd Amendment was added to the Constitution when soldiers had to furnish their own weapons. That time is long past, and the “well ordered militia” referred to in the Amendment has long been supplanted by the military services under the Department of Defense. The Amendment is simply obsolete, and a truly civilized and educated populace would demand its abolishment. No private citizen has any need for a firearm except perhaps for a subsistence hunter, but there are very few of those in the 21st century. Today’s news is, as usual, replete with multiple reports of shootings and shooting deaths, including that of a 10 year old girl killed by “celebratory gunfire” at a New Year celebration. Firing a deadly weapon to celebrate something is the absolute height of irrationality and even idiocy. The NRA is correct when its spokesman says that we cannot control madmen. However, we can certainly prevent them from having firearms. Ban guns now or admit that we are a murderous and ignorant people who have no reverence whatsoever for life.
If we’re all dead, then we won’t need guns in the afterlife, unless the Devil has a way of making Hell worse for us by killing each other over and over and over . . . .
Absolutely brilliant cartoon. I see his point, you dont need guns in heaven because all the bad guys aren’t there. We don’t have that luxury down here.
True…criminals and nutjobs do not obey the law. This is another argument FOR gun control. If they won’t obey the law, then make sure there are no guns for them to commit mayhem with.-People quote “Saint LaPierre” like it’s the new golden rule: “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” This statement isn’t even true, but gets regurgitated a lot by the faithful. LaPierre is one of those nutjobs who shouldn’t have a gun.
Maybe somebody should read the bible, or a bone up on psychology, or just think a little bit: if there are no guns, the big young guys own you, period.
It is said that the US is a violent society, thus being armed is prudent. I agree. It is a violent society. But is that what it needs to remain?-Violent entertainment was cited by the NRA as a culprit. Well…violent entertainment is watched or played as games by millions (if not billions worldwide) and usually these millions never become homicidal maniacs. Does that mean we are unaffected by it? Consider…-In July 2011 a man massacred 77 people in Norway. He stated in his manifesto that he trained to do this by playing a violent video game named “Call of Duty.” (He later, in court, recanted this statement.)-In March 2012 a man randomly shot 7 people in Toulouse, France. His wife reported that his favorite thing to do at home was play a violent video game named “Call of Duty.”-December 24, 2012, Newtown, CT. We all know what happened. A neighbor/plumber reported that Adam Lanza was obsessed with playing “Call of Duty” daily, even having several posters from the game in his room.-The Army uses this game and others like it for training purposes.-I am not condemning that specific game. It is very popular and millions play it without ever planning murder. There is equal violence in movies, books, TV, and other games.-But, do these types of entertainment at least condition us to accept violence as part of our culture?
People who qualify for Heaven will have access to lighting bolts. Sort of like ‘you don’t take a knife to a gun fight’. I expect contention will be minimal so it will be boring for ‘in your face’ personalities.
I’m always amused by the comparison regarding auto’s, knives, baseball bats, etc., to guns in that they can be used to kill also. Guns however, have no other use but killing. And don’t tell me about target shooting. Guns were not developed for target shooting. As someone said, take nothing but a car, bat and knife on your next hunting expedition and tell what you came back with.
Blaming anyone but the shooter is avoiding the problem. BTW, I don’t believe the U.S. Constitution and its amendments apply in Heaven, so why would anyone think they could take their gun in the first place?
This is a (fittingly) non sequitur. God is the most prolific killer of all time. He wipes out entire nations, peoples and cultures, even the whole Earth (supposedly) with a flood. In the future, He’ll slaughter billions of people since only "few there be that find it (eternal life). But wait! That’s not all. Then they go to Hell for Eternity. “He hath burnished his sword for the day of slaughter.” Seems arms would be most welcome in Heaven.
I love all the folks who identified themselves as true fans, but never will read you again. The e-mail was sent to sign up to Gocomics and express the thought.I like to know the number of new members this generated.
exoticdoc2: I can do skeet shooting with my double-barreled shotgun. It is the sort of thing the second amendment writers had in mind – flintlock. One shot (per barrel), a big blue cloud, and 30 seconds to reload. Let’s see mass sniping murder with that sort of firearm.
Comparing America and Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan is like comparing apples and oranges, but yes, I have guessed that if the government was going to go ballistic and turn on the citizens it would result in guerrilla warfare. (which I am also loosely familiar with.) I also agree that many in the armed services would defect and take what they could with them . . . . I doubt they’re going to make a get away with enough tanks, drones, missiles, etc. to truly overthrow a government though. In any case, if we’re hypothesizing that our fictional dictator is going to be done in by a highly trained patriot, how is letting John Q. Public owning extremely lethal weapons now (which have been used to commit very real mass murders) helping? I get people wanting to have hunting rifles and shotguns . . . I get people who want to shoot clay targets . . . . I even understand the people who feel they must defend themselves from criminals . . . but the whole government turning violent on the population argument? It’s seems closer to those who want to live out their fantasy lives at the renaissance festivals or civil war reenactments than it does a valid and plausible argument.
Um, yeah. As Heaven doesn’t have unrepentant bad guys, you don’t need any defensive weaponry. While I remain on Earth, I’ll keep a gun handy, thanks. (And, you might want to add Switzerland & Israel to the sign as they are more heavily armed than we.) BTW, brilliant commentary…not!
NRA membership is 4.25M, US Population is 311.5M, 4.25/311.5 = .0136 or 1%, so 1% of the population believes they have the right to dictate gun control policies over the other 99%, typical.
The most cogent argument I’ve heard against extensive gun control is this one: How exactly do you get rid of all the guns in this country?-There is no answer to this.-People will not disarm willingly, and many would openly revolt if it were imposed by law. Bloodshed, civil war… probable. Would people kill to keep their guns? Yes, but not because their guns are for sport, recreation, or hunting. If that’s all it were, then giving them up would be no big deal. No, they are for self-defense, for being able to kill another human, and the government better not ever try to take that right away. That would be an unacceptable tyranny.-Many commenters today expressed their willingness to kill anyone who tried to take their guns. Others walked out on Wiley for suggesting God will take away their guns.-Brave comic today, Mr. Wiley. I take back some of the bad things I’ve said about you. :-)
Well there goes the gun totin’ Huntin’ dog lovin’ redneck’s idea of a perfect Heaven. The PETA people and the anti NRA crowd would love this days installment…..but let me say this I love dogs I have had dogs who were more faithful than those who claimed to be my friends…No guns means no hunters would want to go there thus no hunting dogs. So which is it Wiley? Heaven or something less ?because all should be equal on the other side.
It takes a lot of courage to stand up to the NRA. They are locked and loaded, and from what I have been hearing from them lately, a lot of them are bullies looking for easy targets to shoot at.
yeah, right, ike that’s going to be the one an only problem for people going up here. In heaven on edoes not need anything earthly, and in hell, well on can guess…
“…We still need to find out the toxicology report…” Nothing to find. The crazy mom schooled him and kept him away from Mental Health help. He was unmedicated. None of the mental health initiatives proposed by Obama would have prevented this. The guns were bought legally by mom in a strict-gun law state. Mom gave him full access to her guns to go to the shooting range. I do not see an easy answer.
The kind of person that Heaven will have: People respecting each other. Now, that is something America could legislate and teach its children: Value Human Life. I hope Liberals would not veto such an effort. What we do with children that flunk the test is another question.
“Rubber bands, feather dusters, and the other conventional objects that have been recruited by gun nuts in their never ending effort to exculpate firearms, have one clear distinction – they’re all created for a purpose other than killing. Things like swords, hand grenades, and guns (especially guns) are intended specifically, often exclusively to kill things. In the case of handguns, they’re intended primarily to kill human beings. Every other application is incidental or trivial. If we eradicate cars or televisions or microwave ovens from society, we sacrifice their primary utility, often quite important. Their loss as potential weapons on the other hand would be relatively minor. If guns were to vanish tomorrow, however, target shooters and a few others might be aggrieved, but society as whole would benefit. I’ll take my chances that a madman with a box of rubber bands might attempt to kill me with them; but a lunatic with a gun or rifle is a different matter. Disarm that one and we’re all better off. Since no one can predict accurately who’s sane and who isn’t, who’s honest and who’s not, and so on, there’s only sensible solution: get rid of the goddamned guns!
Problem with getting rid of assault rifles in an effort to curb gun violence: According to the FBI (as seen on the local news on TV tonight), about 75% of all gun murders are committed with handguns. Only 13% (I think they said) is with rifles.-None of the President’s agenda addresses that.
I made all these comments throughout the day, and you didn’t seem to bite on any of them! I thought you didn’t love me any more! :-)-Then, you reply twice and even cite me to Blue Pumpkin (though inaccurately)! WOW!-I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now. Garsh!-Have a great evening! (Oh, and Sharuniboy replied sufficiently, so I’ll say no more…just glow.)
Only comment: please consider re-thinking the word “inviolable.” None of the Constitution is truly inviolable. Misuse of any rights can easily result in their removal.
Members of the NRA are the American Tallaban, They threaten us with guns, claim they have them to take our government away from us, side with people like David Koresh who was raping little girls and young women, and well anyone he wanted, because he was backed by people with guns, No fear….He thought he was Jesus…NRA bought it hook line and sinker!…According to NRA transcripts, the killers inside the compound had a right to kill the agents serving the warrants Remember, the NRA advocates the of killing government workers, And they are so stupid Seriously STOOOOOOOOPUD…that they think an assault riffle can defeat 20 Abrams A1A2 tanks and 30 F-16s and a handful of tactical nuclear weapons…Ya ever see the movie Idiocracy? Well, we’re living the dream baby….
“…How many shooting sprees have occurred at guns shows?…” Agreed. These Mentals have enough brains to avoid attacking people that can defend themselves. So, they are not insane in that sense.
I do not know what your beef is.“…carrying a hidden gun, thinking they need to “protect” themselves…” Why do you think mass murderers have an attitude of carrying concealed to protect themselves?
“… no evidence of violence in him. Something triggered a homicidal mania. Some drugs can do that…” There were no drugs or medications found in the home. He was isolated from medical help.
The government agents were just as stupid. There were children in that compound. All they were doing was delivering a warrant. Why on earth didn’t they just back off and wait for him to come out again?
Instead, they adopted a siege mentality and gave Koresh exactly what he wanted: war with the big bad government.
True…but don’t get too happy that I agree the measures are irrelevant. You already know I hate guns, so my solution is getting rid of all guns. There’s just no reasonable way I can think of to do it. An impossible dream.-BTW, I’m disabled also.
Shame on you. I always like your comic because you never seem to be too far left or right, just enough to evoke comments. I think you’ve shown your true colors these past days.
There’s something woefully pathetic about conservatives who think that abortion is a trump card with which to prevail in any argument, no matter how unrelated the topic may be. Since you’ve betrayed your confusion about that issue too, here are a few facts:(1) I’m a progressive liberal, not a communist, and I don’t smoke anything.(2) I don’t think that women should control their own bodies. I assert it unequivocally. That includes determining whom they’ll sleep with and whether or not to bear a child as a result. Certainly people like you should have no say in the matter!
Don’t tell me about the Americans with Disabilities Act! My wife was wheel-chair bound, when the ADA was passed, so I know precisely how transformative it was for handicapped people. The fact that you don’t appreciate it indicates either that you’re too severely impaired (in which case I’m sorry) or that you’re so bound up with self pity and self hatred that you can’t take advantage of what it offers (which would be your own damn fault!)
Your remarks about guns makes it evident that you’re one of the last people on Earth who should have one. You don’t think that you’re “equal” to others (more self pity!) but you’re convinced that a gun will change that. Hogwash! If you’re a “cripple”, as you say, it’s because your mind and spirit are broken. Millions of handicapped people in the world – including many of our own brave vets! – go out every day and demonstrate that they’re just as good as anyone else and none of them requires a goddamned gun in order to do it. I have nothing but respect for those brave souls. For you just pity.
too many political comments here and not many to take seriously … oh, well … had to throw my 2 cents on the ground and on to the next panel … life’s too short to take too serious a note of the comments made or the comic … peace out and shoot one for the Gipper!
Oddly enough, even though lots of people warned of vitreol… the gun owners have been pleasant or quiet… hmmm… well in any case… this is the last time I will visit this strip… Loved Danae… hate the left wing vitreol.
Enforce the laws as written and we will have much less gun crime, just like enforcing banking regs or any Wall Street ethics. Laws without oversight are just an excuse to target any individual they want. I dare anyone to go through a week of normal driving and shopping, eating out, etc and not breaking laws. They are only a setup. If they really wanted a good society, they would make and keep laws that work.

Wayne LaPierre had an excellent opportunity to start a conversation about responsible gun ownership, specifically, locking up your arsenals in good gun safes. It’s a perfect position for the NRA to take: it puts at least a tiny amount of burden on gun enthusiasts to help fix this problem of mass shootings without actually asking them to give up their weapons. An NRA passionately and publicly lobbying their members to keep their arsenals locked up would have fewer public relations issues than an NRA wanting to arm teachers and principals.

It won’t stop it all, but if it just stops ONE from shooting up a classroom of 6-yr. olds, then it will be worth it.
btrfly_lvr almost 12 years ago

LaPierre is one of those nutjobs who shouldn’t have a gun.

What we do with children that flunk the test is another question.

ajhil almost 12 years ago
Vonne Anton almost 12 years ago
Problem with getting rid of assault rifles in an effort to curb gun violence: According to the FBI (as seen on the local news on TV tonight), about 75% of all gun murders are committed with handguns. Only 13% (I think they said) is with rifles.-None of the President’s agenda addresses that.

I made all these comments throughout the day, and you didn’t seem to bite on any of them!

The government agents were just as stupid. There were children in that compound. All they were doing was delivering a warrant. Why on earth didn’t they just back off and wait for him to come out again?
Instead, they adopted a siege mentality and gave Koresh exactly what he wanted: war with the big bad government.

For you just pity.rugratz2222 almost 12 years ago
