You know Marcie, you have something that Peppermint Patty doesnât have and thatâs a mother who can sew a skating outfit. So why donât you go ask your mother to do one for her?
I donât have a machine, but Iâm not too bad sewing by hand. My daughter in college was sad because her favorite Taylor Swift shirt didnât fit any more. She said that maybe sheâd have it made into a pillow. Unbeknownst to her, I did it. It was tricky as it was a V-neck; I filled in the neck with a piece from an old, unloved white t-shirt. Iâm giving it to her today for her birthday.
Are Singer sewing machines still made? I remember their late 1970âs jingle in Singer TV commercials that featured Debbie Reynolds and Polly Bergen as spokesladies: âOne hundred million people sew easier with Singer.â
Schulzâs wife must have had the same sewing machine that I have, if he copied hers for the strip today. I was given a Kenmore (SEARS), lavender colored, heavy cast iron machine for HS graduation in 1965. I still use it. It looks just like itâs pictured here, with the machine size and shape, and the dials and such in the same place : )
My first thought was, Marcie you have a sewing machine? I havenât seen one of those in ages, although Pattie isnât that old. Who sews anymore? Everyone buys off the rack and throws torn clothes away.

Sheâs not much for thinking, either.

Patty is like a two way radio with a broken receiver; all she can do is a one sided broadcast

Can Marcie do anything?

Marcieâs not much for listening, either. Sheâs been told repeatedly not to call Peppermint Patty âSirâ, yet continues to do so.

Marcy is of course forced and ends up with a poorly made dress that only Snoopy can fix

If she were, sheâd have let Chuck explain that he and his family were going to his grandmaâs condo for Thanksgiving dinner.

Just now realizing that, hey Marcie? Maybe you can make her a tree skirt for a dress. Or get your mother to do it.
