We used to eat at International House of Pancakes, very occasionally. The food was reliably mediocre. We have never eaten at IHOP, nor do I expect we ever will. It always evokes some cross between kangaroos and having to run for the restroom.

I hop, you hop, we all hop for IHOP…..

By my understanding of physics, acquired from watching a sitcom, time did not exist before the Big Bang (the theory/event not the sitcom). So perhaps we are witnessing the birth of the rat-verse.

That’s what Rat gets for always putting Pig and Goat down.

It came with a couple of rubbery tasteless pancakes whether you ordered them or not.

I’m reminded of how Buster Keaton would play with the inability to judge depth in movies to do all kinds of neat tricks in the plane of view.

In humor, timing is everything. Pastis couldn’t possibly know how long it takes us to read his dialogue.

At my most recent visit to IHOP, the pancakes were so thin they had only ONE side!

Rat will never be an NFL receiver with plays like that.

There was a panel cartoon called “The Alumnae” that ran in my local paper. In one episode, DeEtte (the ditz) is saying to her snide companion, “What do you mean, Magda, Nature abhors a vacuum?” as a coconut drops from a potted plant onto her head.

So Magda saw the falling nut, made her comment, which DeEtte repeated before impact.

Comic strip time.

Clever. You have a very quick eye and hand.

Ah – IHOP. The place where you get an overpriced plate of grilled batter smothered in dark-colored corn syrup and whipped margarine.

So we’re going to do some tripping through space-time?

Nicely done.

I wonder what recesses of Pastis’s mind this idea came from.

As dumb as this toon is, I find it funny a few minutes of looking at it. Now a real side splitter. Thanks Steve!

Time in comics and animated cartoons is pretty darned flexible. E. g. the falling off the cliff gag that involves walking on air.

God, I love this strip! Having grown up on Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes, Pearls is, to me, the best comic strip around these days.

Goat’s comment is sorta meta, but so true! —Especially when Cartoon-Boy deliberately omits the little lines running up from the “halo” that indicate motion!

Relative humor, great for the holidays. Think about it.
