This is the first time in years that a true horse has been featured in this comic! The way Marigold whipped her tail is reminiscent of when Linus VanPelt pulled a similar stunt with his security blanket.
Is Phoebe sympathetic, intimidated, or both? I wouldn’t be intimidated; we already know that Marigold can do much worse than that, tho she’s not likely to treat a human that way.
I try to kill flies by clapping them between my hands. I miss, but the shock wave seems to kill them. It’s cleaner than actually smashing them, I guess.

That fly will never reproduce again. Or do anything else that requires being alive.

Whip-crack went her whippy tail—and the beast was done.

An important safety note. Never be in the tail’s arc when a horse is in swat mode. They will slap you silly.

Marigold rolled a nat 20 on that attack.

And you thought the horn was dangerous.

Thank you for the footnote, Dana. Outright muscacide seemed out of character for Marigold.

Read the disclaimer at the bottom of the last panel!.
as for horses, I would like to see marigold stand up next to one and compare them.
Or see how they interact.
Dana mentioned that she had to learn drawing horses well enough to draw the unicorns for her comics.
They aren’t horses but still a strong reference.
is it just a coincidence that unicorns and horses like the same foods, can be ridden and both can neigh!?.
Phoebe is going to be very upset about that fly because horses don’t have fly killer tails like unicorns.
But do unicorns even attract flies like horses anyway?

Is this where the expression “Dropping like flies” came from? :-)

Getting swatted is probably one of the more merciful ends a fly can meet. “The grandeur of nature” is things eating things alive.

This is one of Dana Simpson’s best! This is going into my saved collection! :-) (Now as they say in Mortal Kombat, “Finish him!”)

I’d like to see Indiana Jones try that.

No cartoon flies were harmed, at least.

Linus Van Pelt could whip-crack his security blanket. He said that the other kids never made fun of him more than once.
