Even when he’s wrong, he’s right.

He learned this lesson long ago: “Earl, do you think this dress looks good on me?” The correct answer is only and always “Looks good to me!”

For a child always buy at least one size larger. Children has a habit of outgrowing the current clothes in a hurry, especially boys around 13 years old.

Would Earl prefer to give his grandson a pocketknife instead even if Opal as well as Sylvia would disagree in fears of the lad cutting himself?

“Sounds about right to me.”

Ok Opal, whatever answer would get us out of here sooner. Yes, looks good, let’s go. Yes, bigger is better, let’s go. No, that dress does not make you look fat. Let’s go. If you need me I’ll be in the food court.

Why doesn’t Opal take Nelson shopping so he can try them on????

Earl gives his standard reply, then Opal gives her standard reply, and all’s right with the world.

Opal measure twice and buy once ;-)

And yet…..you keep on dragging him along.

Opal finally gets around to asking a relevant question.

Because you want him off the couch, Opal?

He’s a growing kid, always buy larger :)

Why are you buying a sweater that would fit him now? It’s June!

Just finished rereading Swallows and Amazons, a favorite escape novel. The youngest child was 7, and was given a pocket knife as soon as he learned to swim “without touching the bottom of the lake.” It was simply assumed that the kid’s big brother would teach the kid how to use the tool safely.

All these years and she still hasn’t caught on to Earl’s real message at times like this one.

Opal do not go to small for Nelson, my dad when he was alive did the same for his grandson always too small.

Hasn’t Nelson been 8 years old for about 20 years now? Buy him the right size, he’s never going to grow.

Because.. she needs a driver and carrier.

Hey Opal, that’s so ‘50s and mine don’t fit anymore.

Yes, why does she make him go shopping with her?

They’ve been married fifty years. Opal should realize by now that most men hate shopping.
