I’ve always thought it rather rude to trying talking to someone while they are reading the paper. Of course, she gets the same response out of Earl even when he is not reading.
With people who like to talk and talk I don’t think it matters if you listen or not. It’s not like you’re having a conversation. He’s just enjoying his own voice.
