Oh, the generational thing. My youngest son has a huge green dragon tattoo on his arm. He’s in his late 50s. One of my granddaughters, her husband has a WW2 pin-up style tattoo on his calf. I told him it looks like the Betty Grable pin-up. He didn’t get it. One of my grandson has a “sleeve” of tat art.
Some of the nurses at the doctor’s office have tattoos and nose rings. I have one doctor, female, with “body art”, although it is fading. She’s a great doctor. Actually my Dad had tattoos but so faded. Maybe I am the odd ball.
Slippy slope; boomers let women wear britches & guys grow hair. GenX put grown men in short pants. Millennials think it strange if you have no tats or piercings.
The only place I’ve ever seen young people working that have stretched ear lobes, nose rings, etc. are in minimum wage or limited wage ceiling jobs. Didn’t see any at my alma mater engineering school.
A young neighbor of mine has multiple piercings. For her new job as a pharmacy tech, she has to take off all the ones that show except her earrings. As for tats, one of my nieces has had all of hers removed. She said it hurt much worse than getting them in the first place…
Tats are often gotten when you’re young. They don’t consider that all that pretty and expensive art work will fade to a grey/green blob in 10 – 15 yrs. They also don’t think about gaining weight in later years. One of the people at work had a unicorn put on her lower back. Many years later one of the guys asked her about it and she said it was her “Little Unicorn.” The guy said, “It may have started out as a Unicorn, but it’s a Clydesdale now.”
As an employer, we had certain uniform conditions for our staff. Visible tattoos was one of them and facial piercings another. If you couldn’t do that then you didn’t work for me.
I don’t mind small tattoos, but large ones or offensive ones limit one’s career prospects. And over time, one’s skin ages and wrinkles, let alone the ink fading. As far as piercings, again that limits one’s career opportunities. As nose rings reminder me of how rings in pig’s noses are used to prevent pigs from rooting and digging which can damage the ground and cause environmental damage. Piercings also provide pathways for bacterial infections.

I feel that’s more a dress style from the 2000s, maybe. That kid is probably rapidly approaching Pluggerdom themselves by now.

“If you want a job…” Why would that kid want a job when he knows he can live with you and eat your food for the rest of your life?

If you want a job, ask for work. If they don’t give you work, ask for bread. If they don’t give you work or bread, take bread.

If the character follows that fashion entirely his untied bootlaces drag behind him. Does he have enough sense to stay off mall escalators?

Just living you will have to experience pain so why speed it up with tattoos and piercings ?

Tattoo’s and Piercings are common among uneducated, superstitious, and primitive societies. Enough said….

What makes you so sure he even wants a job?
raybarb44 7 days ago
Explain to him in words he might understand. Lose the ring and pull up your pants if you ever expect to get a job…..

True but if the kid took the advise, it is worth money!

I think now he could get a job at Starbucks, maybe next year. I will never get used to seeing “rear cleavage” in an establishment that serves food.

Fortunately, those of us who like and have tattoos and piercings ARE the bosses now.
And some of us are even old enough to be retired!

At his age nobody will hire him anyway. They want experienced employees. Training them is a waste of time. They’ll go get another job somewhere else.
