Or some Joy Division, The Cure,…. dance on 10 sq inches, in a nearly pitch black room, nearly immobile, head facing the floor, long black hair obscuring your face, not talking to anybody,… aaah, golden times.
Well, Arlo is a full-on depressing old man. As of this past week, he has yelled at the TV, said kids these days aren’t taught anything in school like I was, and is now showing that he doesn’t like music with a fast beat.
Can we please just retire these two before this comic becomes an official momento mori?
In the (reunion) concert in Central Park, Paul and Artie do a version of Kodachrome splicing a very upbeat version of Maybelline at the end. I am always amazed at the diverse creativity of Paul Simon.
I’m with you there Arlo!!! In the old days, they had dance halls for people. Did some fancy dancing, had a dance card and you even dressed up to go dancing!!!!! What will you have in the future when this generation retires? Will there be no dance halls anymore? Nobody will dress up in suits and ties and fancy dresses anymore. Will they still be able to move to the music of their youth?
The mindless extended electropop that used to be standard in some events in the 90’s bugged me; I couldn’t connect with it, anticipate the beat. There’s a different version of that in, well, recent social’s DJ music.
Being a boomer, for one Thunderstruck gets me on the floor; slow dance for the end… Unchained Melody.

Might fall asleep dancing to them, not exactly hard charging rock n’roll.

On the upside for Arlo this could lead to “dancing” the Horizontal Mambo.

Play the 33 records on 45 and then maybe. Like Weird Al’s “polkas on 45”.

I’d give it a 7. It’s got a good beat but it’s hard to dance to.

No, Tina Turner is exercise music. Simon and Garfunkel is drinking music for when your girl friend leaves.

My favorite is “American Tune”, but it’s melancholy, not a workout song.
