2 As long as we’re already on a dark topic, human drivers kill about 43,000 people every single year, and that’s just in the U.S. A driver killing someone on the road happens so very, very often it’s barely even news. I remain firmly convinced that self driving cars will be better at it.

Works just as well as the other self-driving vehicles.

Seriously, remember when your teenage son learned to drive? You were the one who had to pay attention to the road at all times and be ready to give commands.

A “self-driving” car is like that. You are supposed to exert all the skills of driving except the actual driving. Few things are more boring that vigilance without accompanying control. Why do you think passengers always fall asleep on those long trips?

When I was a boy, my Sgt. father took me to a military radar installation. An airman sat in front of screen showing the azimuth radar display. Occasionally a nearby civilian airport would send a signal which lit up a light that requested azimuth radar information. The airman then pushed a button to send the data.

Nobody could stay awake. They had to add computer generated random “fake requests” about once a minute just to keep the airman awake. A Tesla does not even do that.
