My son owns one, the recent recall on the news was just a software update you can do over your phone, the news is alway making a Mountain out of a Molehill
2 As long as we’re already on a dark topic, human drivers kill about 43,000 people every single year, and that’s just in the U.S. A driver killing someone on the road happens so very, very often it’s barely even news. I remain firmly convinced that self driving cars will be better at it.
Here’s some Christmas morning trivia to keep you busy while waiting for the kids to wake up.
‘Jingle Bells’ was originally a Thanksgiving song. “Jingle Bells” was written by James Lord Piermont in 1857 for his church’s Thanksgiving concert. However, over the years, it became more closely associated with Christmas and is now one of the most popular holiday songs!
In Japan, it’s a tradition for people to enjoy a Kentucky fried Christmas. What started as a marketing campaign by KFC in the 1970s has evolved into a widely adopted tradition of eating a bucket of KFC chicken to celebrate Christmas. Many people even place their KFC orders well in advance to secure their Christmas chicken dinner.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer almost had a different name. The creator, Robert L. May, was considering Rollo and Reginald before he finally settled on Rudolph.
How did the tradition of Christmas stockings begin? This custom is believed to have originated in the early 19th century in Europe. One popular legend involves St. Nicholas, who, according to folklore, put gold coins in the stockings of three poor sisters. Over time, this evolved into the cherished holiday tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace and filling them with small Christmas gifts.
The first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was actually small. Construction workers placed the first small, undecorated tree at Rockefeller Center in 1931. These days, the famous tree features more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights—That’s nearly five miles of lights!
‘The Grinch’ is the highest-grossing Christmas film of all time. The 2018 computer-animated film brought in $512,858,819 worldwide. The runner-up? Home Alone, the Christmas classic from 1990. “White Christmas” the 1954 Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye/Rosemary Clooney classic only made $30 million worldwide. (Cont.)
You are still supposed to keep your hands on the reins.
Seriously, remember when your teenage son learned to drive? You were the one who had to pay attention to the road at all times and be ready to give commands.
A “self-driving” car is like that. You are supposed to exert all the skills of driving except the actual driving. Few things are more boring that vigilance without accompanying control. Why do you think passengers always fall asleep on those long trips?
When I was a boy, my Sgt. father took me to a military radar installation. An airman sat in front of screen showing the azimuth radar display. Occasionally a nearby civilian airport would send a signal which lit up a light that requested azimuth radar information. The airman then pushed a button to send the data.
Nobody could stay awake. They had to add computer generated random “fake requests” about once a minute just to keep the airman awake. A Tesla does not even do that.

It still has a few bugs but self-driving cars are inherently, potentially superior to most of us human drivers.

1 Not a very fun Christmas comic.

Thanks! I always enjoy some trivia.
i’m not generally a fan of remakes, but the 2018 computer-animated version of The Grinch is well worth watching.

The only self driving vehicle that worked all that well was a wagon drawn by a horse.

Riding in his sleigh on Christmas Eve.
You may wonder how this thing could happen -
A self-driving sleigh is hard to believe.

The sleigh’s GPS software didn’t have the latest updates.
Or… the tree was jay walking.

Santa may be a little late while elves get the old sleigh there and reload it.

The stats are out there for anyone who wants to know the truth. Humans cause way more accidents per mile than self-driving cars.
