I know that miffed look Elvis has, my Mozart was a plant nibbler and he had the same reaction to encountering a cactus too :)
Addendum to your news report boys – if said armed plants fall on the floor (accidentally not on purpose) they can attack floofy tails and not let go. This was reported by Dean and Sam after a disturbing incident in the living room one day ;-)
Georgia posted an explanation of what went wrong on her Facebook:Georgia Dunn – Breaking Cat News Bad bugs, thanks goodness. I don’t understand it entirely, but WordPress’ plugins needed a 7.2 version of something, while WordPress was still running a 7.0 version. Hollis went in and brought them all to a place where they could work together without problems
When I had a cactus years ago, there was always a lot of cat hair trapped between the spines. I never saw them doing it, but always suspected the cats were using it as a stationary hairbrush.
Well, the halcyon days are over. Winter will return tonight with a vengeance. High of 58F expected, with tomorrow’s highs crashing to the low 20’sF. High winds, gusts & power outages expected.
Ah, if one is to dance, one must pay the piper!
Love, purrs and blessings, dear orbsters, and your cherished ones!!! Stay warm (or cool on the flipside of this old globe)!!!
Good morning, orbsters and orbabies! We are back and recuperated from the wedding; it’s not so much that we overdid it, but the hall had to be cleared of all the decorations before we left and it was around 3:30 when we tumbled into bed at our hotel, only to be awakened by BIL at 7. Grabbed a quick bite and headed home. Went to bed at 6:30 last night.
Elvis and Lupin, I hope you have learned your lesson! Cacti are dangerous and should be given a wide berth. Either that, or just keep tossing the pot onto the floor until the Woman gives up on ever having houseplants.
Ha! Over the holidays, my wife got me two wonderful kittens for Christmas (we recently lost our beloved Tonners(18yrs.) and HarryCaray (15yrs.)) who we have named Elvis and Lupin (in honor of BCN!) Our Lupin loves tipping over things, like our tall, spindly euphorbia trigona cactus plants. One morning, in my efforts to put one back up, the plant brushed against my face and deposited needles in my right eye, which led to a trip to urgent care! So I have experienced this, Elvis!
We have a lovely day here, currently sunny and supposed to reach the 60s today and tomorrow. Sunspots on the kitchen floor for the kitties who are not too lazy to get off the bed to seek them out. Then back to winter for a while with maybe some snow on the weekend (naturally). Hope all y’all and your furbabies have a wonderful week!
For a moment there I thought Lupin was wearing a moustache. Funny how Elvis got poked in the same place. If Puck follows up, will the next story arch be the Three Amigos?
I need the orb’s help again. I literally cannot afford cat food right now. This is what happens when there’s no work due to the holidays. I won’t be paid until next week. There is money on the way, but it hasn’t arrived yet. ANYTHING (even $5) you can send would help now. If you can’t, purr for me, please. My family is trying to help, but it’s the bills and everyday expenses that mess things up. Thank you for your great kindnesses and uplifting thoughts — they do make a difference. May Bast bless and keep you all.
I’ve only had a couple of bosses who bothered my house plants. None of the plants were very big so I transferred them all to hanging planters – problem solved.
I learned today that the Tampa Bay Times has started running BCN seven days a week. Still not my state, but at least BCN will be developing new fans in the Tampa/St. Pete area!

The plant is not a jerk Elvis, it’s just a bit sensitive and puts up its defenses.. just as you do. ;-) Nothing jerkish about that.

That looks like a Saguaro cactus, but they don’t get arms until they are 75 or 100 years old.

Turning the conversation sideways, I just noticed that Elvis, with his suspenders, looks line Walter Cronkite…. Anyone else? 8^)

The cactus appears to be raising its “arms” in classic fencing position. En garde.

Yeah it’s all the plant’s fault you got poked by getting too close. I know they are tasty but cats have trouble getting past the defenses.
