A crown of flowers to match his shirt!

I remember as a kid doing the same thing with tissues substituting for tissue paper and a bobby pin in place of the pipe cleaners. My cousin and I made lots of them to decorate for various Barbie weddings.

Wish I was a cat so I could marry Tommy. I love him so much.

In these non-smoking days, pipe cleaners are Arts and Crafts rather than practical items.

The ubiquitous pipe cleaners of so many uses! He feels pretty, oh so pretty, he feels pretty and witty and gay! You go, Tommy! Get in touch with your feminine side!

When I was in jr high, I took flower making classes at an art studio. There was a material available then which I have not seen in years. It was made of plant fiber, thin sheets in blocks, dyed intensely beautiful colors. You would cut it into petal shapes, size and shape depending on which flower you wanted to make, and assemble with wire and additional materials that imitated various flower stamens and pistils, add pre-made leaves and cover the wire with florist green tape. I haven’t thought about it in years. I made bouquets, corsages, dozens of carnations for our church ushers, and my biggest commission: a copy of a wedding bouquet. It was apparently one of those craft fads that have a brief period of popularity and then disappear. Nowadays I guess you buy pre-made flowers to make arrangements.

So, it is lovely to see Sophie reviving the art….and to see her so happy to share with Tommy and all the rest of us. And it also revives for many of us those endless hours making tissue carnations for parade floats! Not to mention the sore fingers from wiring them to chicken wire.

Happy Caturday, everyone. I am an absolute klutz when it comes to making paper flowers. I’m so glad Tommy and Sophie are able to make them. Maybe Yum Yum will be willing to learn the craft and make me a few.

How crafty!

Luv all the Scrooge movie versions, but some are better’n others. Tommy is perfect for Christmas Present, because he’s full of happiness and good cheer and passes it on to everybody. He also sees the good in everycat.

Is it just me, or has Ms Dunn left out a step or two. Unless “A Miracle Occurs” between the penultimate state and the finished product . . . ?

Once again, Tommy lives up to his motto: “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.” He doesn’t just look pretty – he looks MAHVELOUS, dahling! Give that big fluffy bundle of joy some Fancy Feast!

I sometimes think home sewing and crafts must be dead in these “modern” times. Then I go into JoAnn, a chain here of stores that sell fabric and sewing supplies and crafts materials. There is almost always a line at the checkout. Yesssss!

My mom, who taught kindergarten (4s & 5s) in Sunday school for 30 years, has a 2" thick binder full of craft ideas that she collected over the years to use with her class. When she retired, she made a copy for her successors. I wonder if Georgia keeps a book like that to use with her kids…this would certainly be included!

Who’s up for a trip to Hobby Lobby?

I haven’t made paper flowers in decades. :) Use to make them as a kid using Kleenex. In High School I helped make what felt like a million of them for a float for a parade. (we all swore – never again). :)

Maybe this is the start of better relations between Tommy and Sophie. I hope so. I think Sophie needs the recognition and support Tommy is so ready to give. And Tommy? Tommy deserves all the friends he can get. He personifies: “To have a friend, be a friend.”

Can anyone else hear Tommy singing “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story?

Todays comic reminds me of the crepe paper flowers that we made when I was a teenager. We would place them on the graves of our deceased relatives.

Somebody has to say it. “Never guess they’re artificial!”

Reality check. There are no bloodstains (unless that is the red in the center of the blossoms).

But really, we once had a cat we called “piglet”. Actually “Tessa”, short for “Contessa”. Sausage shape, stubby legs and amazingly tolerant. We took her in along with her sister from a friend whose fiance was allergic. Had them flown in from Anchorage. Yes, really. Picked them up at the O’Hare freight terminal.

My ex has the photos so I can’t prove it. You’ll just have to imagine.

A fat little tabby. Reindeer antlers. A little western saddle. And a little organ grinder monkey complete with fez and vest in the saddle.

A great photo, but wow, was she pissed. I blame it all on the ex.

Sophie is an evangelist for her revolutionary techniques.
