O.T. But advice, please! Over the weekend one of my cats developed an aural hematoma which was drained and sutured. Now he’s wearing a cone and is refusing to eat or drink. I’ve been feeding him by hand and giving him water in a medicine syringe. He’s happy for attention and seems to feel ok, just won’t eat or drink with the cone. Any suggestions?
If Beatrix is really missing from the bookstore, why isn’t Trevor out sniffing her trail? What’s the point of having a doggy-nose available if it’s not used? =)
“Trail Mix” Day —Commonly referred to as “GORP” regardless of the ingredients. Gorp is an acronym for “good old raisins and peanuts” which two ingredients actually make the best train food—something you can grab a handful of and eat while hiking/portaging. Other nuts work if they aren’t too oily, but any nut going into gorp intended for actual camping use should be salted. Adding other dried fruit than raisins, crasins, or dried blueberries is problematic, as any dried fruit without a skin will fairly rapidly pick up atmospheric water and get very sticky. Marshmallows are right out, as are chocolate chips—neither is “pack hardy.” However, M&Ms will work if it’s not too wet out. If confronted by a bear or grizzly chipmunk, it is generally best to quietly surrender the gorp and move away. The bear you might manage to scare off, but if it’s a grizzly chipmunk, you’re doomed.
Eat Outside Day —Pass the gorp, and watch out for grizzly chipmunks.
Motorist Consideration Monday —Drive defensively. Buy a tank.
Love Litigating Lawyers Day —If you can read that with a straight face, there’s something wrong with you. You may be a lawyer.
National Diatomaceous Earth Day —I don’t mean to be abrasive, but let’s get down to the nitty gritty. With this earth material, it’s impossible not to rub someone the wrong way. You may now go back to your daily grind, even if it got off to a rocky start. I have polished off my silicious comments for the day.
Beatrix may be trapped somewhere. It is a common cat “thing”. When my tabby didn’t show up for his morning walk, I knew something was up. Fortunately, I also knew he would “answer up” if I could get near him. I took my grey-and-white hunter with me. Within seconds of calling the tabby’s name, I heard a very faint meow. It was so faint I could not localize the sound. My grey-and-white cat can target prey by a grass blade rustle across a field, so I followed his attention. I stood behind him and saw his ears were “locked” on my neighbor’s garage. When I got closer, tabby got louder. I woke the neighbor from an afternoon nap and freed my boy from the garage full of motorcycles. He never got locked in anywhere again.

One more syllable in the middle there, Sophie, and you would have had a lovely haiku.

So the consensus is it’s a certain Kitten. Now, where could she be that both Sir Figaro and Sophie could hear her?

I don’t understand; if it was Beatrix, wouldn’t she have called out everyone’s names? She knows all the kitties who live in the Big Pink House.

I love your stories Georgia, but just remember, this is a family strip, not too much drama if you please.

The Moody Blues: I Know You’re Out There Somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I will save you from that tree!
…….
I hear a voice meowing
And I’m sure that it is you
You are in a tree up high on a branch
And we will come to rescue you!
…….
We can all hear you calling
We will all do what we can,
Whether we will climb up high or dig down deep
But you know we are all right here for you!
…….
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow I will save you from that tree!
…….

Bae-Bea, now we will find you
And we won’t let you go
We built our love around you
We worry so, baby even though
You survived the cold sno-o-ow
Baby Beatrix, when first we met
We knew in these hearts of ours
That you were someone we wouldn’t forget
We will find you, our l’il superstar
When we first met we knew you were special
You made us feel like new
Now don’t worry, you’re not gonna leave us
Bae-Bea, we just can’t let you
Beatrix, now we will find you
And we won’t let you go
Just feel our warmth around you
We love you so, Beatrix even though
You’re a paw-ful, you’re a paw-ful(mm mm mm)
