Wow! Jules is really enthusiastic about Agatha. Maybe he helped her defeat the Owl back in the day. And Natasha is so thrilled she’s having tears of joy.
Nopes. Nopes. Nopes. Mice is not cool (except for Speedy Gonzales, that is). Them mice is such a destructive pests and harbingers of the plague. That’s why peoples has dometicates the cats in the first place.
Tough to open a lid you’re sitting on by pulling it up. She’ll have better luck knocking the jar over entirely, if Jules is as fast as he claims he is!
I love how the arc is bringing in the yearly return of the immortal July Bug Jules, a very young Baba Mouse, Clover the Scribe, The Golden Mouse Agatha, Princess Mags (and her Dad) as well one of my favorites: Angus, probably the last cat that Winifred personally cared for at the big pink house. Too bad the days of July are getting short in number, almost time for Jules to go on his way….. Awesome arc!
I’m a blubbering mess now. I’ve been pretty emotional missing my mom lately. I go through spurts where something sets me off. This story line isn’t helping. Go Agatha!
Uh, Georgia? For the benefit of those of us with a propensity for quickly scanning on the first read-through … next time you might want to leave a little more space between “heroes” and “hit.” Just saying. :-)
OT: had my seven-week followup with the surgeon yesterday. I had two infected sutures under the skin. They were removed, but it was not an especially pleasant experience. Overall, though, he is happy with my current progress, although race training is definitely still off the table, probably until after the first of the year.
Seeing Natasha getting all verklempt to witness Agatha in action, kind of reminds me of how I felt, as a young child, seeing “Abraham Lincoln” in Star Trek’s “The Savage Curtain.”
For those who don’t know the Kai Lung stories of Ernest Bramah, Kai Lung is an itinerant storyteller. He falls in love with the maiden Hwa Mei, who is also known as “the Golden Mouse”.
Maybe a bit too obscure these days, could be coincidence.
In the news this week, in Australia, where all the garbage bin lids are the same, some genius cockatoo has figured out how to open them. In an unprecedented example of social learning, most of the cockatoos in Australia now know how to open garbage bins to look for food. They have even come up with variations on the original technique. Even cockatoos have heroes.
I got so involved in the past story, I just noticed that the present-day crew are in their jammies. I went back to July 5 where Tommy says they got into their cozies. [Shakes head in rueful disbelief at own not noticing.]
Oh wow, I’m going back through this month’s comics and only now notice that in the first panel, Mouse and the little guinea pig are just out of focus because The Golden Mouse and Jules are the focus.

Agatha, I would suggest reducing your dietary intake of carotene. It seems to be affecting your fur.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
The Nile Branch Library
Serfig-Aro: Welcome, class! And thank you for coming out for trumpet lessons.
Kitten Antef: Why are we meeting so far from the Library?
Serfig-Aro: That will become clear in a minute. Now, everyone grab your trumpet and make a BLAT.
All: BLAT!
Serfig-Aro: Very good. That is why we’re way out here. But stay with me, and we’ll be making music in no time. And remember to practice!
