One day, Calvin wonders why people stay indoors. Another day, Calvin wants to spend all day in front of the TV. I thought kids were more decisive than that.
Panel #1 says it all. Even during the summer people live with the A/C going full blast and get in their air conditioned cars to go everywhere. Having lived in NC for over 30 years and now retired on northernmost Maine, I’ll take the cold any day over the oppressive heat of the Carolinas. When it gets really cold I add layers….when it gets really hot I can only get so naked and go out in public.
Well, I suppose all the luxury we indulge in today, at least where we are lucky enough to have those luxuries, do separate us from nature. However, I firmly believe if we had better caves and there weren’t stickers and bitey things in the grass we would be quite happy out in nature. But there are and we’re not. ..not sorry
Some don’t have to go outside even to use the car. They live in a house that connects to the garage that has a machine that opens and closes the door. They park in a ramp that has a walkway to the office building. They shop in a mall that also has a connecting parking ramp and connects to a food store.
We all feel nostalgic from time to time, but remember there was no such thing as “the good old days.” With some exceptions (mostly temporary setbacks) the world has been becoming a better and better place as time passes.

And since Calvin showed Hobbes the technology they have so far, Of course Hobbes will use all of it to his advantage.

Calvin might want to consider trading Hobbes in for something less threatening, like a hamster.

Whenever Calvin gets onto this dreary subject, Hobbes shuts him up by suggesting that he, Hobbes, might eat him.

Why, Calvin—we’re put on this earth to suffer.
After all, suffering builds character!!

Nature is nice, but not all it’s cracked up to be. (Hobbes’s line reminds of his ‘tiger food’ remark in different strip.)

A true tiger, like a true cat, kills its prey with a neck bite, before eating. None of this eating alive business.

Hobbs is kidding, of course. Canids and Ursids (possibly the same thing) devour their prey alive (yick!) but cats of all sizes kill their prey first.

Typical human. Thinking that there is a purpose that is human centrist. Nature nicely summed up by a tiger.
