The kid’s not really wrong. At a Kabbalah retreat, among many philosophical gems, the leader mentioned that he never has expectations. Without expectations, you cannot be disappointed.

I’m with you, Calvin. Can’t seem to do it consistently, though.

Don’t do it! I took that approach in my teens, when suicidal thinking took over every moment of my life for several months. I decided I could stop caring about anything, so I would be “as good as dead.” Bad move! I effectively “died alive” – all the hassles of everyday life were still there, along with the thoughts that drove me, but there was no upside at all. Memories don’t die. I went back to taking lumps a couple weeks later.

Sally Brown says ‘Drop Dead’. Calvin says ‘So what?!’. A match made in heaven.

I just pick the things I do care about.

To paraphrase an old expression, “Don’t sweat the small stuff and most of it IS small stuff.”

So begins the path to apathy and despair. Good thing the tiger is there to answer that particular question. A sudden pounce will knock the “so what” right out of you.

This is the whole problem with America today. the only ones protesting are the BLMS and they are protesting for the wrong reason, they are protesting for self. THE 1960s/70s protest (flower power) was protesting for the betterment of all people. We are in a egotistical society, ME ME ME! we also see this in LGBQT…Think the radio stations need to re play the Eve of Destruction 1965

And Calvin creates the zeitgeist of Gen X.

Honestly I am kind of the same way. I try not to care too much about things or else I’m way too irritated.

That so many have that attitude anymore has caused our present predicament.

Pretty sure that was Pat Paulsen’s punch line in all of his campaign speeches.

That helps with certain things.

I think there’s wisdom in this to a point. Caring about nothing leaves you with a meaningless life, but caring about everything leaves you emotionally and mentally exhausted. Try limiting the number of things you care about, focusing on what’s really important or what will deeply affect you no matter what.

It’s an important step on the road to enlightenment.
