Calvin loudly proclaimed this in 1993 as he actively participated in every opportunity to make it true.Three decades later, all too often we hear it as a whine from groups who ignore opportunities available to them.
This is what a lot of people thought in the 70s. The previous generation had done most of the “heavy lifting” after World War II to get the economy running again. You could still scrape by on a part-time job, if you had to. You could “couch surf” for a few weeks if you lost your apartment. Things are much tougher today for people who “fall off” that ladder to success and the Great American Dream and it’s nobody’s fault but our own.

He may have a point here—after all, he never ASKED to be born!!
And if his parents did get a dog (as Dad wanted), they’d owe HIM care and happiness.

Unfortunately, a lot of kids are being taught that in our schools.
