The calm was there — for a little while. Now the storm is.

Rosalyn’s really not impressing us here: talking to her boyfriend on Calvin’s parents’ phone (which will presumably be billed to them), not knowing where Calvin is or what he’s doing when she knows he isn’t in bed, and talking about him and even to him in such a nasty way—I’m starting to think he’s got legitimate grievances against her babysitting.

Hmm. So the “Stupendous Man” outfit is real, and not just a pigment of his invagination, like Hobbs? Also, where does a kid that age (and of that general inclination) pick up words like “tyranny”, “resolve”, and “prevail”?

“Freedom and justice shall always reign over tyranny!” Only if we all do our part!

Calvin’s lines as Stupendous Man are among the absolute best Watterson, and any comics writer, has ever written.

My fellow Calvinists, I come to you with a heavy heart fore tomorrow we shall convene at the local home of Hobbs to pay tribute to our friend Stupendous man. Bring money in lieu of flowers.

“Cretin.” We find Calvin somehow charming. Not the girl who has to babysit him. She sees nothing endearing about him at all.
