As I have said before, there are TWO points in Calvin’s favour and they are both touched on in this strip. First of all, Calvin was not proven guilty despite his protests of innocence sounding more like evidence for the prosecution. Secondly, it seems to have been something more serious and memorable than the minor misdemeanours that Calvin is usually in trouble over.
Just give a yes or no answer until you have all the charg…uhm…uh…facts. If a yes or no is not possible, keep your pie hole shut and let them spill the beans first.
He works harder at avoiding schoolwork or chores than he would if he actually did the tasks. He tells so many lies, he can’t keep track. You can be imaginative and productive at the same time. Sound boring?
I did that to my neighbors’ adult daughter once. They were away visiting their other daughter and she was not allowed in the house. I caught her when I went to put the mail in and feed the cat. All I said to her was “You know you’re not supposed to be here,” and she went ballistic, grabbed the phone and offered to dial her sister’s number. I said, “that’s okay, I have it,” nothing else. Then I fed the cat and left.Five minutes after I got home the phone rang – I knew it was her parents. We all had a good laugh!
This is exactly the playbook of a particular political candidate today “What they said about me are lies and fake news blah blah blah” just as he lies at an unprecedented rate that would make a lie detector test machine tilt like an old pinball machine if one was strapped to him.

Obviously, Calvin would not do well if ever arrested and questioned about a crime…. LOL

No doubt about it … Watterson knew tRump as a boy, and based this strip on him. As is the boy, so grows the man…

The “noodle incident” spawned a TV Tropes entry. You can easily find it online, but I caution you that the site is a time-sink rabbit-hole.
