Is this a silhouette of a character “walking off into the sunset”?… – Will Les finally ‘turn the corner’?… No, really… he’s running out of hallway… – Did Rosa realize that G-man’s had 2 bowls of “Cheaties™” cereal, this morning?…. – Or did she think that it was really Gunther’s fault that the air…. changed…as Les walked by?…

Okay as I see it, Leslie Knox has not been punished for actions in toilet which should encourage his defenders. On the other hand, he is now scared to bully around others as he has been doing non-stop, which should encourage those who want him to suffer. His “suffering” is him being forced by fear of cameras to treat others decently..Who knows? In time it might become second nature. In time he might notice people acting friendlier toward him and realize there are benefits to civility.-If this is indeed the outcome, was the artist simplistic? Is it artsy enough for those who demand realism?.Is this another unforgivable lie on the part of Crystal even though it saves others his former bullying torment?-Stay tuned tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.

“put a camera on every light post & building, public space, malls and businesses, in fact pretty much everywhere except inside your dwelling”-A camera in a public place is much like a policeman in that same public place without the poor eyesight, needs for toilet breaks, retirement, vulnerability to being shot and bribability or temptation thereof.-If it is used to tyrannize people through enforcement of petty laws, that shows the petty laws need to be rescinded lest we become a police state without police. There should never be a law which is not enforced. This does not mean all laws need to be enforced, it means some laws need to be removed from the books if they aren’t worthy of general — versus selective — enforcement..If it is used to protect the helpless from those who would harm them, this is not a police state, this is liberty to be free from fear. (and at a lower cost)

Since we’re on the Police State musings……here’s something that gives me the shivers-We now have most cars being manufactured with GPS and telemetry- ostensibly to keep you safe in the case of a crash….or to download program updates to change parameters (ala Tesla). And Google is plowing ahead with self-drivers.I wonder….how will those self-drivers be programed? Will they be held to exactly the speed limit? What if you are driving your car in a reckless manner? The company can tell, it’s all being recorded in the car’s computer log. Will the government mandate that all cars must be so equipped? And that the companies must turn over the data? Will they remotely disable your vehicle if you’re violating? This is not fantasy, it’s already in place. That’s how those “Low Credit- No Credit” car lots manage it- they fit the cars with a black box, you miss a payment, your vehicle’s ignition is remotely disabled and they arrive to tow your car.And if you think you’ll just have it disabled, I’ll bet there’s a law coming that will make it illegal to tamper with, just like they did to people who tried to remove their catalytic converters.Car companies are also pushing for legislation to limit the age of licensable vehicles to 15 years in some jurisdictions.Cheery thought, eh?

In England, CCTV is everywhere. Also in downtown Fort Worth TX (paid for by the Bass Bros. many long years ago). Not to mention in every casino in Nevada and elsewhere. I worked in a Nevada casino and got used to it. I couldn’t care less if I’m being filmed when out and about. It helps solve crimes and if you aren’t a criminal, why should you care? And if it helps to knock twerps like Leslie Knox to his knees, I’m even more for it.

It does seem that Leslie is leaving in a hurry “Out of my way!”, which at least strongly implies that he walked into the principal’s office, made his incoherent pitch for a 3-day suspension, and is now leaving the school to go on it, leaving Principal Hightower wondering what just happened. He certainly didn’t discuss the “incident” any further than we saw yesterday, or he would have been told right off that there aren’t any security cameras.

Escambia County School District buses have three cameras and a hard drive recording month’s worth of high quality video from each.Upgrade the memory a mite and they could probably get ten year’s worth. Now for stop arm cameras for the callous souls who run the stop arm knowing full well kids aren’t going to notice until after they get run down and killed — the grown-up Leslies of the world.

It is not surprising on how many folks start to behave themselves when they believe that there is some form of security not far. Be it camera, and or security person. My husband and a friend of ours found this out more than one time.We had criminals who tended to pull scams living in the condo unit next to ours. When my husband would walk outside in his work gear. They got VERY nervous. So nervous that they tore apart the car they had just bought for parts. And then they left in the dark of the night out of the unit. Leaving most of their belongings behind. Also at the school bus when he wears his work gear. Drivers tend to behave and not go thru the flashing reds like some tend to do.That friend saved a barista from a jerk who was sexually harassing her at the coffee shop. All he did was show up in his work gear. The gal had sworn before that, that she was going to call security. As our friend walked up to meet my husband(who had witnessed some of it). The harasser looked at the gal and said, “I didn’t think you had the guts to call security”. And the harasser fled right after saying that.

We’ve had so many incidents of school assaults/fights and assaults against teachers and other nefarious activities (including a case of a “relative” of a student coming onto school grounds with a ski mask on to attack/retaliate against someone, only to get cold-clocked by the victim) making their way onto a kid’s cellphone for “distribution” via YouTube and other social media… – It has even made and helped the news and authorities find out who was responsible…though it wasn’t the original purpose of some of those recording with their phone cameras… which is the sad part, as people were quick to film for entertainment and to boost themselves, and not for the betterment of anyone)..

Why would Leslie Knox confess to a punishable offense based on a nonexistent,. unknown video?.Methinks Mr. Knox is not the best listener in the world. There was even a case in Florida of 6-8 teens where the group lured a shared common “rival” to one of their houses, proceeded to block off the exits and beat her (verbally and physically)… they got it on their camera (they had a teenage boy to do it) and posted it all over… – In the end, it helped authorities find out who was connected (sadly, some of the parents, if not helping to do it, didn’t help to stop it) and the law took it from there….

-with the prevalence of cell phones with cameras .. have installed hallway cams become unnecessary?-A lot of the school districts in Florida ban kids from carrying their cells during the day, because they can’t control all the texting that goes on otherwise. Of course, when a shooter intrudes and parents are frantically trying to reach their kids, that’s a problem. But so far, school districts prefer kids to leave cells at home, in cars or in lockers…

”The whole point is you can’t force someone to change, they have to see the light and do it naturally themselves.”.Then it was misguided on the author’s part. You can force people to change by changing their habits. Most people do not think about the things they do, they just conform to societal conditioning. They just say, “It isn’t done.” This is why some cultures treat children as precious treasures and others will be proud to have killed their own daughters if they think they have dishonored the family.-“I believe in most cases bullies are the way they are because of home life and how they’re initially treated. In the case of Leslie, he could have (been? dhg) teased ruthlessly for his name, then he comes home to awful parents who give no support, so he starts getting tough and hating everyone. And then it builds and builds and now you have a jerk.”.It could be, but once again you are building on a mountain of assumptions. There are people who have absolutely no concern for the feelings of others, their brains are simply miswired. As has been mentioned earlier, sometimes what seem to be good parents still produce bad children. It could be that they are secretly bad parents or that the birth defect has won out. There is no reason to believe other children teased Leslie about his name. I went to school with Andy Taylor and Charlie Brown — their real names — and nobody ever teased them about it..“I think if some of these characters would reach out to him and try to be a friend instead of assuming he’s going to be a huge jerk all the time, he’d change.”.You are assuming again that nobody has ever tried to befriend him. You are accusing others of what you have not seen (every day of his life up to this point) to justify what you HAVE seen. Facts not in evidence.. “But right now he has no reason to change. The world hates him so naturally he’s going to hate the world, and that’s sad.”.But the world does not hate him. Nor does he hate the world. He just enjoys pushing it around — or he did. For the most part the world just wishes he would stop attacking it. And he DOES have a reason to change. He may just not see it as being as important as entertaining himself by bullying.

“…we haven’t really been told in the strip that Leslie has been suspended”————————————All we know for sure is that Les has not been disabused of the notion that there are cameras in the hallways.Speculation about his suspension is just that.Although we may infer that he didn’t get a fair hearing along with this basic non correction of a fact, and say that, at best, he was told to go back to his classes and the matter would be looked into.

-I think so much love life talk about Quill has gotten Bernice to her breaking point-A number of us have been posting opinions that Bernice lost interest in Luann as a friend some time ago, way before Quill came on the scene, and generally feels as though Luann is a waste of her time. The same can often be said of Delta.-I don’t know if you followed the arc about Bernice going for an interview for a counseling internship, with Delta along. They began the episode by agreeing how lucky they were that Luann wasn’t with them, because she would be overly dramatic about everything. They then proceeded to become totally overly dramatic themselves when Bernice is running out of gas, they stop at a gas station, the keys get locked in the car, and on and on.-Bernice is portrayed as very intelligent, as is Delta. It’s likely that they have outgrown Luann, who is kind of an ‘every person’, not a genius. But Bernice’s constant sarcasm toward everything Luann says, which is a sign of disrespect (especially among teens) is why I figured months ago that their friendship was over. It’s only Luann who hasn’t seen that yet.

    - Rosa likes Gunther for being smart, but that’s about it. Everything else about him she dislikes.-This seems very unlikely. Rosa is the one who keeps inviting Gunther to dances or to go on other dates. Why would she do that if she only liked him for his brain? You don’t invite someone to a dance if you only like them for being smart.-She doesn’t dislike him because he isn’t ‘manly’. She is saddened that he seems uninterested in her as a girlfriend, because Rosa can’t understand why, if he likes her, she has to do all the inviting and initiate all the kissing. To her, the fact that he never starts anything doesn’t mean he isn’t manly, it means he doesn’t care for her.-Also, it can easily seem to her that he shows that he likes her only when he stands up for her. Again, this isn’t being a tough guy, it’s showing actual emotion, by showing that the girl matters enough that you would talk back to a bully if he seems to be hurting her.-By the way, there are probably as many reasons why someone becomes a bully as there are bullys. I had immigrant neighbors and the Dad beat their kids, back when I was a real young kid and there were no child welfare agencies. Those kids, in turn, went out and beat up younger boys who couldn’t stand up to them.-But there are bullys who do that to gain power over coworkers, bullys who like to give pain because they really enjoy seeing other people in pain, bullys who were so overly indulged by parents who never set any limits that they keep ‘testing’ to see if there are limits.-And then there are people who are just plain psychotics, like that guy who kidnapped 4 different women and held them captive for years in a house where he beat them, and forced one to deliver the baby he fathered of another. He ended up killing himself in prison, but before then, he explained in court that HE was the victim.-I haven’t been reading this comic for long, but I’ve never seen anything to explain why Les is the way he is. So I won’t even guess. All I care about is that bullying needs to be stopped, whatever the bully uses as his or her justification.

Meh methinks ye are operating under several misconceptions. For one, I don ’t think leslie knox is listening in and having his feelings hurt by my failure to call him by the shorter version. For another, you think I feel self-important. I am important. Third, you think I am not nice to people in real life. Nothing could be farther from the truth and nearly everybody likes me and tries to be near me.

We gotta hope Gunther doesn’t get too brave and confront Les somewhere else. Can’t have Ox show up again (Ox Ex Machina). Maybe Dirk would happen along and sweetly signal to Les that this is not a good time to get even. Les is not going to argue with Dirk.

Sorry, I haven’t read all jillion comments, but at a school in my fair burg, two students were duking it out on the floor, and another student video’d them and put it on YouTube. In the video he could be heard laughing and saying, “Only at [name of school]!” All three were disciplined.

I can’t imagine a school not having security cameras installed nowadays. If there are cameras in a restroom, however, I’m sure they would be focused on the door to the hallway.

You should probably know by now that if you think we agree on something, you have very likely misunderstood..I acknowledge people CAN be forced to behave and that is working on thug Leslie. I disagree with you that authors should be forced to write the way you KNOW they should write. That would just be more bullying which I despise and which you insist on justifying..“And then you make your own equally invalid assumptions” assumes I am making assumptions. What I am mostly doing is point out that there are things we simply don’t know. We don’t know what went on between the last frame and the first frame today. We don’t know yet what the principal in this story has done, is doing or will do. I’ve gone over this with you in the past but continue to fail to convey the fact that is is injust to punish a suspect based on a suspicion. You are angry with the principal for not punishing things he does not know happened. Justice is not holding a court and tben hanging all of the accused. You didn’t want it for Leslie and should not want it for others. As of yesterday the only witness against anyone for anything to come before the principal is an unreliable incoherent Leslie Knox. Based on what the principal actually knows, the whole thing could be a hoax simply intended to avoid a math test..You say we would have to assume nobody tried to befriend Leslie since elementary school. We do not have to assume that, in fact we know for a fact that Rosa smiled at him and was polite him right up to the time he decided to have some fun with her by unwelcome touching and intimidation. If you could see with unprejudiced eyes, you would realize we do not have to assume repeated rejection must be the reason he is as he is. Argy covered it quite well..You demand I show you one person who does not hate Leslie, I guess because otherwise we absolutely MUST assume they do hate him. Let’s turn it around, show me one single person who actually, unquestionably DOES hate him.. Does Crystal hate him? Not that we can tell. She’s angry he hit her sweer baboo. You can go on and on about how he was justified in hitting, but that is still the sole source of Crystal’s expression of any emotion toward him..Does Oxford hate him? No. Although he does hate his action of trying to bully others. The rest of the time, there is no evidence he gives him any thought..Knute even hoped for Gunther’s personal effects after Leslie killed Gunther, no hatred, just the expectation Gunther would be dead..As to “practically the whole school” yelling at him when he tried to beat up Gunther, others might assume they disliked bullying, violence and disturbed socializing during a pleasant meal. And that is if we assume practically the whole school was there, another questionable but irrelevant assumption..It’s a strange, strange world we live in

And you are entitled to your opinion that the principal is duty bound to “try and understand” every student who comes before him with any kind of complaint. I think some schools have over two thousand students and it would be impossible to understand all of them. Also, it would be like Moses trying to cross the desert but unable to move because of every complaint and demand of judgment taking up his every waking moment..And again and again and again I patiently repeat we do not know Leslie Knox has received any punishment from this principal for this unsubstantiated claim. We don’t even know if Leslie has ever been punished in any manner for anything his entire life.

    > it can make sense and be plausible without delving into background minutia.>But in this case, Leslie’s continuing to believe that there are cameras in the hallways (which is critical to the plot of his “reformation”) makes no sense at all unless (or may even if!) we know just what he told the principal and was told in return.

    > I think some schools have over two thousand students and it would be impossible to understand all of them.>He had time to allow Leslie to say his piece, during which (1) Leslie requested that he be suspended, (2) he admitted that he punched another student inside the school building, (3) he claimed he was acting in self-defense (meaning that the other student threatened him), (4) a girl was in the boys’ restroom, and (5) someone is making videos inside the school, specifically inside the restrooms. Then the principal is supposed to just say, “Whatever,” after hearing that? He’s certainly not doing his job if he doesn’t make an effort to lean more about what Leslie is saying here.

I’ m sorry you had to face bullies in school. I’m sorry any of us had to face them. I also tired of the principal telling me he could do nothing about my lunch-time tormentors who ran up and hit me while I sat by myself trying to read my Edgar Rice Burroughs books in peace.Even though I told him when and where it happened, he couldn’t take time from the other duties the school board and state and federal government piled on him to deal with it unless I could identify them..In frustration, I grabbed one ere he could get away, carried him into Mr. Powers’ office and set the Leslie Knox wannabe on his desk, right smack down on top of the more important federally-mandated paperwork and said, “Here, this is one of them. Maybe he can tell you the names of the rest.”.By this point, you can probably imagine who Howard Eugene Powers was mad at and he still wasn’t particularly helpful after I had done all his work for him..Yes, it was irritating but in his defense, had he not prioritized in compliance with the Escambia County School District, the state of Florida and the geniuses enforcing federal laws aimed at protecting the Leslie Knoxes of Century High School, he would have been fired and replaced with someone else who would follow their perverse priorities placing paperwork first..We all have memories of bullies and how the school system treated all involved.

You don’t have to buy it, you don’t even have to disprove it.Others simply don’t have to accept your presentation..Even so, it is interesting that in every case you insist on picking sides. You even insist others pick your side. You even insist the artist acknowledge your critique of his or her work..i can well see why you pick a similar person to favor. You acknowledge Leslie is a well known jerk and insist he must remain a jerk unless others take his side in his life of being a jerk. It would be reasonable to suspect projection.. And twisting! Oxford did not threaten to hit Leslie if Leslie touched Gunther. He threatened to hit him if Leslie hit Gunther. Touch and hit are not the same thing..Further, let us accept your assumption Oxford does indeed know Leslie, since that is a possibility. If he knows Leslie and assumes Leslie is at fault in wanting to hit the mousey kid, what does that tell us? It does not tell us he hates him, just that he does not like the things he does..You profess to not like the things Leslie does. Do you hate Leslie? Is that why you want him to continue, claiming he can’t stop until others are in his corner?.Relatively big guy grabs smaller guy’s shirt in threatening manner. Small guy does not raise his hands or act intimidating in any manner.Read body language and even if you don’t know the parties involved, nothing requires hatred to oppose the apparent aggressor.

The Assumption Police are on strike so you can make your assumptions, no matter how reasonable or unreasonable..But try to comprehend some silly few may not agree with your assumption. Those few may not even agree with your assumption Evans is a bad artist for engaging the imaginations of the readers..FREEDOM, NOT A REQUIREMENT

    > Hightower knows he’s in for a suspension, so business gets transacted accordingly without the niceties of an inquiry>No need to inquire about an admission of an assault in school. No need to inquire about a claim of self-defense (and thus a threat from another student). No need to inquire about a report of a girl using the boys’ restroom. No need to inquire about reports of a video camera in a restroom. And Mr. Hightower gets paid for this?

Suppose every story ended “Which did he pick, the lady or the tiger?” That’s OK sometimes, but if an author does that consistently, he’s basically asking the readers to write the stories instead of him. One begins to suspect that the author just paints himself into corners that he can’t figure how to get out of, so he just leaves it to the readers’ imagination to assume that things somehow got resolved in an undisclosed fashion (which becomes frustrating) or were simply never resolved at all (which becomes boring).

“Not if he told them he’d kill them if they ever told.”-Assuming they would rather live a life of fear than make that call, knowing the rest of their lives Leslie might decide to carry out the threat..That is a very strange assumption, though.
