Wow â we can actually see Dickâs pupils! Interesting, that his clock is almost the same time here. Meaning I should be in bed so âGood morning VistaBill and everyone! Gânight!
But the letter was written to Sparkle when she was a child. The code in the letter may indicate where Annie was not where she currently is. Wonder if Dietâs time machine might be causing temporal distortion? Perhaps Doctor Who is the next crossover aided by Doc Wonmug.
It seems that we are a clever bunch. Our collective membership in the Crimestoppers Club is safe. Dick should figure out the stamp clue when he sees whatâs at 87W 45N. Itâs kind of ironic when the rare time his eyes are wide open is bedtime, but thatâs what happens when you suddenly discover something.
The whole degrees can only give you accuracy to about 60 nautical miles in each direction, so you need some additional clue to get a fix. The Washington stamp seems like a good one, though there are an awful lot of Washingtons in the USA. It could indeed be the island, or it could be a street, building, school, park, âŚIâll bet there is a bit more to the message.Good to see some real detection with clues and deductions.
I have my doubts about the stamp indicating Washington Island. As I said yesterday, Washington Island seems too big and too inhabited (permanent pop. ca. 660) to provide a good hiding place for a reluctant (and resourceful) hostage (and her faithful canine companion, Sandy?). Iâd favor one of the much smaller and more sparsely inhabited islands nearby such as uninhabited Plum or mostly uninhabited Rock Island with just the lighthouse keepers and perhaps Wisconsin DNR staff at the old Thordarson Boathouse. The latter might make an excellent hideout, except for the inconvenient fact that it is open to the publicâŚ.
Are we sure itâs 87W 45N? If itâs 87E 45N, then itâs in the Mongolian desert, in China!
And I still think there is more to this letter than latitude and longitude. The phrase âcountry recordsâ sounds fishy to me. So does the phrase, âI wish it was 45 degrees up north.â Why did she say, âI wish?â
Tracy canât sleep, so he gets up to read the comments on this strip. That usually bores him and he posts the usual Z-z-z-z-âs from under the bridge with an âLOLâ signature. This time he sees the #1 post of the day by Stagger Lee and then his eyes pop open. And, he hasnât a clue as to Tessâ whereabouts or care, either.
The clever way Annie managed to conceal the meaning of the numbers in her letter suggests that she fears her mail will be read. Annie is in a fix, yet Mr. Am believes she may no longer be with the Butcher. Still, he said she was near. The island makes sense in this light. Good work, Crimestoppers!.Welcome back, Ray. Wonderful work on the set design for Vieux Carre. I felt as though I was there in the run-down rooming house, transported in time to 1930s New Orleans. Lived in, yet not cluttered, the sense of place was palatable, while giving the cast the room they needed in the cramped quarters. Bravo!
In real life, doesnât the post mark show where a letter entered the postal system? Sundayâs strip showed us the stamp and the âPostage Dueâ, but it did not have a point of origin included.
Iâve been to Washington Island. It is a nice place. You can eat fish boil there (fish, potatoes and corn) and ride Icelandic horses. Sievers loom and model railroad benchwork factory is there, too. You can only get there by ferry and there are no one way tickets sold. The Island is cut off by weather in the winter. The beach has thousands of round rocks rather than sand; the rocks are totally smoothed by the waves and currents and was up on the shore. Too many people were taking them, so there is a fine. At the coordinates Annie gave there is an observation tower. Most of the Island is wooded, and the roads only make a crossroad in the center. This Island is off the Door County penninsula. A great place to go.
Annie must have slipped in in with other outgoing mail, and was sure to word everything so that, if it were found and read, it would seem just a fan letter from a kid.
We were never told it was signed by Annie. Just that Tracy and Junior recognized the writing.
I think itâs a testament to Mike and Joeâs job on the strip that weâre spotting clues and debating about them. If this was done under Locherâs reign, I got a feeling it would be greeted with a collective âmeh.â And now, so many Junior Crimestoppers are champing at the bit to help find Annie. Great job, Team Tracy!
Yâknow what REALLY bothers me the most about todayâs strip? Usually when Tracy has a revelation theres always a âYE GODSâ associated with it.. apparently the âgods dont ye at nightâ lol :)
Note that all the islands of that group to the north of Door Peninsula make up the âtown of Washingtonâ; hence, even if Annie intended for the stamp to be a clue, it could still refer to any of that group of small islands!

From Guatemala to possibly a boat in Lake Michigan near washington island, seems a bit far fetched. wouldnât this be out of Tracyâs jurisdiction?
