Yeah, let’s hear someone say it’s boring, now …… – And now, the big question’s gotta be planted..… is that…… is it…? … – Or if it’s not the original Daddy B? , then is it just some other “ho hum” dude that will be the “grout” to fill in the empty space in Mrs. B’s “heart o’ tiles”?
“Mystery Loves Company”“Guess Who Else Came To Dinner?”“Impromtu, Brutei?”“A Four Way Crash”“Suspense, None The Richer” (♫)“Who Could It Be, Now?” (♫)“Some Interesting Dinner Conversation”“Expect The Unexpected”“A Grilled Berger, Coming Up..”or…“No Shelter For This Bomb”
Was Mrs. B. not expecting Quill to be home? Or did she expect him to be there, but she just has no reason to hide the fact that she was bringing a gentleman home? If she didn’t have any reason to hide it from Quill, then why should sje have a reason to hide it from this group? Unless it’s someone Gunther doesn’t want his Mom to be with, like…
Well, I had a late meeting with some women friends; so, I am turning off for the night! Now this turn of events with Gunther and his Mom, is not going to go so well! Well, time to round up IS Katie and shlep upstairs! ’Nite all!-——————————————————-“Dust as we are, the immortal spirit grows Like harmony in music; there is a dark Inscrutable workmanship that reconciles Discordant elements, makes them cling together In one society.” (William Wordsworth, 1770-1850)
This reminds me of an Anime ep. I like to watch, involving a mother/son pair like Gunther & Ms. B, but both a lot younger. Apparently, said mother being “14+ and pregnant” at the time and, today, still under 30 and extremely “dateable.” The kid knows this and attempts to defend his mother (who does want a little more levity and fun in her life) from all male suitors. He has zero trust for older men, considering that his own father abandoned the two while she was pregnant.
The mother tells the kid she’s going out on a date. After she leaves, the kid sees a wedding planner magazine in his Mom’s folio. He gets into disguise and follows the mother out, where he sees her with a very elderly gentleman talking with her inside a Wedding Banquet Hall.
Long story short, the kid flips out, and his friends and teacher (the protagonist of the anime) try to reign him in, but to no avail. In the end the kid confronts his mother’s fiancee at what appears to be their “wedding” ceremony at the banquet hall (full gown and everything)! The mom has to “discipline” him in front of everyone, explaining that the gentleman was the owner of a new banquet hall they were building locally (Mom works as a crane operator for the construction co.), and he (the owner) wanted Mom for a wedding “publicity” photo shoot.
I hope we’re dealing with something similar here, in re: Ms. B and her guest. I hope it’s not her doctor, lawyer, undertaker, whatever. If it is an actual date, then. It will be interesting to hear the explanation of her choice. I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s probably not Gunther’s biological father.
Thank goodness we’re finally getting a new character added to this same old “high school” group. Maybe this gentleman is a classmate of Luann’s at Pitt CC???
Is it at all possible that we could have one day when someone is not accusing the cartoonist of racism while berating the viewpoint character of committing every crime in the known universe? Obviously not today, but, say, how about Thanksgiving?
She DID say she was going to explore her wild side. And this guy doesn’t appear to be a loser. Always good to bring a date to your own surprise party. But since they are both IN the house, I’d say their idea of a party was for a guest list of 2.
The thing is, when all your kids grow up and leave you want the house ALL TO YOURSELF! Boy, do I know. But Mrs. B ends up with Quill and I end up with grandkids. Both nice, but….
“I do not remember a strip where Crystal and Knute were involved with Mom B…”-———————————————————Knute is Gunther’s best bud, and Crystal is Knute’s “side”.Surely Mrs.Berger would know of them.
“Better set an extra plate for dinner!”-—————————————————————————Good thing Ox found so many plates, and if you go by Monday’s strip there are enough breadsticks for everyone!
Dinner and then dessert at home…that’s probably what the two were thinking until Mrs. B turned the key in the lock and….. Perhaps Mrs. B had baked a cake earlier in the day? Or some other scrumptious dessert? What if the kids found it in the ’fridge and were planning on using it? Lots of questions, very few answers until “tomorrow!” ;)

Interesting plot twist. Makes this 3 week focus on a dinner party more worth-while. Glad to see some character development for Ms. Berger and Gunther.

Wonder if that could be Gunther’s real father. He looks like his mom, so the dad could be anybody.
