Transcript:
Tiffany: "I can't believe Rosa let you go. Paris definitely changed you for the better" Gunther: "Peru. It was an experience" Tiffany: "Well, while you were having fun in Europe, I was here being miserable" Gunther: "Uh, South America. Why were you miserable?" Tiffany: "Psh. Turns out "University" is just more school" Gunther: "That must have been a shock"

What did Tiffany thought âuniversityâ meant: âjob centerâ?
JayBluE about 10 years ago
Reminds me of that Beauty Pageant contestantâs gaffe a while back⊠or even that celebrity quote about making another celebrity ââŠlook like a ârock scientistâ. â Tiffany says she loves a good mystery novelâŠ. She says sheâs still waiting to see where âWaldoâ is. She said itâs the most riveting mystery, after that last âCarmen SanDiegoâ thriller she read, last yearâŠ..
Angelalex242 about 10 years ago
Either Tiffanyâs stupid, or she cares so little about what he says that itâs entirely irrelevant where Rosa is.

It probably helps when he realizes that between them he has âHome Field Advantageâ, schoolwiseâŠ
JayBluE about 10 years ago
I wouldnât say âunder controlâ, so much as âa bit more level of a playing fieldâ. Tiffanyâs no MENSA member, but sheâs smart in ways that Gunther isnât. One has what the other lacks. â When it comes to school itself, though, back then in HS, it was her turf, more or less. Now, though itâs not altogether his turf, he is a bit more âat homeâ than she would beâŠ..

OMG! the arrogant idiot speaks again! She must be deaf by now, because she NEVER uses her earsâŠonly her mouth to show her ignorance and contempt!I just do NOT like herâŠperiod!! Gunther seems cool with it. I hope he can maintain this position without falling for her garbage!

Itâs a school with much more appealing guys than Gunther! Wake up, Tiffany!
Gerry Lee about 10 years ago
I like that Gunther isnât biting her head off like he did with his mom. Snarky doesnât mean grown up after all. But he does seem kind of together and with it today. Tiff may be dumb as a stick sometimes, but sheâs a wonderful person. Iâd vote for Gunther over Ox for Tiff for sure!
Sisyphos about 10 years ago
I think Tiffany is not stupid; she just does not care, which is something very different. She is toying with Gunther as a potential âcatch,â but he is not playing along. This probably wonât go very farâŠ.

In her defense how many tv shows about college kids actually show them in class? She probably thought that college was jus a four year party.

I wonder about Tiffanyâs parents; how did Tiff have the grades to get into a University or are mommy and daddy just buying her a degree?

Still canât show any growth for any of the characters. Amazing that Tiffany can be the one who pushes Bernice to solve the Piro situation but is still thrown out as the ditz when Evans wants to prop up another character.
sffilk about 10 years ago
Tiffany shouldnât even been in college. Sheâs too much an idiot.

Dave⊠a few thingsâŠ. First, thank you for posting the image of your mentor. It was nice to see the fellow who came up with that wonderful quote that I like a great deal! Second, you were right about the âDonâtâŠâ statement by Gunther. It did not lead to an angry outburst. I am glad I was wrong, but I also have to say that the end of the last panel from yesterday seems a bit incongruent with todayâs work. To me, it seems like Greg could have simply left out the âDonâtâŠâ and yesterday and today would have meshed a bit better. For some reason, the âDonâtâŠâ comment feels like it was meant to be important, but I cannot figure out a reason for it. And, now it seems as if it has become UNimportant.
Pipe Tobacco Premium Member about 10 years ago
Even though Tiffany is unimpressed with âUniversityâ being more school and classes⊠she IS sticking with it, and with no indication to the contrary thus far, it appears she is succeeding (at least moderatelyâŠ. she would have had to have earned AT LEAST "gentlemanly "Câs (or a âCâ average))" in her classes to not have gone on probation). So, while Tiffany has other aspirations, it seems she is doing what is necessary to accomplish her work at the University. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Overall, I think Tiffany has grown considerably and has become a kinder, more positive character.
Caldonia about 10 years ago
Iâm pleased to see more posters who are tired of Tiffany bashing. It really isnât that impressive, since Evans has often made her such an easy target. And people react so strangely here sometimes when she shows up! They become bullies.

What was that quote Brooke Shields made about Cigarettes?
seismic-2 Premium Member about 10 years ago
Why are we supposed to believe that thereâs a ânew Guntherâ now? All the while that Gunther was in Lima and then finally in the village, it was âclassic Guntherâ. On what was supposed to be his last day in the country, when Luis was driving him to the airport, it was âclassic Guntherâ. Then after he spent one week on the tour bus we are supposed to think he is somehow a new man? If this were true, what on earth happened during that week to make it so?
pmmarion Premium Member about 10 years ago
Sarcasm! Goodness, Deary Me! What is becoming of our Gunthie?
TORAD_07 about 10 years ago
Her interest may be real, but augmented by some other reasons such as help with school work ⊠letâs see how the week pans out. Wanna bet she gives Gunther a good-bye peck on the cheek ?
But nothing further than thatâŠ. ;-PPP

Since Luann is supposed to be an âaverage teenagerâ, Greg Evans wants the âotherâ blonde in the strip to be really dumb, to make his heroine look good by comparison. He now wants Luannâs once-and-future suitor Gunther to start acting more manly, too, so that people will not think Luann had to settle for a loser when they finally do hook up.
Pointspread about 10 years ago
Since Gunther isnât getting any Rosa anymore some Tiff might be just the thing to improve his attitude. More likely though she will invite him to a party where Bernice will make a move.

Iâm liking the ânewâ Gunther!By the way, I need an update: OK, Luann is at the local Junior College; Bernice, Tiffany, Quill, and now Gunther are at the University (âMooney Uniâ); and Rosa is still in Peru. Where did Delta, Crystal, and Knute go? I canât remember if GE ever went into that (and I canât find it in a cursory look at old strips).

JayBluE about 10 years ago
And whether it translates to us in the same way or not (which is inevitable, since this is part of the beauty and purpose of variety), this is the way that the characters are in the authorâs headâŠ. (just for an interesting reference) â

Another case of forgetting time works in cartoons. It may not even be the same day that Gunther had his bio lab. And so what, hasnât everybody cut a class occasionally? (I once had a student who stopped coming to class and doing assignments before the middle of the semester and then came to the final exam and asked if taking it was worth his while.)

âflaw of Tiffanyâs character, she is not popular, nor never has been popular. ".The little kids like her, therefore she IS popular with a select few.I bet Shannon wouldnât even bite her fingers.Sheâs THAT likeable.

An interesting one from a Clueless celebrity:

It is indeed a MidWest thing! Unfortunately, I known many âTiffanysâ growing up and older and, sadly, the stereotype is accurate. Shallow, vain self-centered and mind-numbingly unaware of the world they inhabit.

Also in the Mid-Atlantic, even up through Philly/NJ, itâs not too strange to say the word âhaveâ, but pronounce it like"of"âŠ

It seems clear that Greg Evans wants Gunther to learn how to act around girls, so that he can write the big Gunther-Luann romance he always felt Gunther deserved to have happen to him, for being such a ânice guyâ. (And the nice guys always get the girl, right?) Rosa, however, failed to build Guntherâs self-confidence (except to lure him away to Peru, just long enough for Mommy to start dating, and that has had a major impact on the G-Man). So maybe now Tiffany can help make Gunther less of a wuss.

Luann did make a big trip to visit a bunch of colleges, and as soon as she got back she decided it was just a waste of time:-
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 10 years ago
In that case, Florida is part of the midwest because I see it written pretty much daily..Now if she pronounces the âfâ of âofâ as an eff, sound, then âŠ.maybe.Around here âofâ is pronounced like LUV without the ell (as the good Lord intended)..Which is to say âofâ and " âve " are pronounced identically.
JayBluE about 10 years ago
It wasnât an insult. It was funninââŠ. â And the strip Seismic showed was the equivalent of what I showed. They both said that she visited colleges. One just had Quill asking her. The other had Luann saying it. But she wouldnât just say that she visited them, and didnâtâŠ.
JayBluE about 10 years ago
And you usually ask for proof to say anything different from what you say, yet are willing to âinferâ something with âlogicâ and âreasonâ (not that one shouldnât use logic and reason) even when the characters or dialogue donât specifically say what youâre sayingâŠ.which is the point I was makingâŠ

@Dave53 âI didnât see a retraction of that proclamation.â.It was implied, so you shouldâve inferred it.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 10 years ago
We didnât actually see Luann on her college visits. We saw the strip where she left on the trip and the strip where she came back (the one posted above, with Quill in the food truck) but all the intervening strips were devoted to Brad and Toni. The whole college visit thing was spontaneous, since only one strip was devoted to her deciding to check out schools, while she accompanied her parents on a Thanksgiving trip to visit her aunt. Luannâs motives for the visits perhaps says all that needs to be said about her devotion to pursuing a college degree:-

âWhen did yelling at your mom suddenly make you cool?â-It doesnât make you cool per se. It does determine autonomy, which in and of itself is cool. Now that he has gained autonomy, letâs see which direction he will go towards.
JayBluE about 10 years ago
Exactly!
JayBluE about 10 years ago
If one were to put these in sequence, it would tell the actual story (as someone mentioned, yesterday). Whether specific or inferred : -
â Though she was not looking at colleges to âboostâ her âHonors Programâ creds, and though she did include certain âconveniencesâ, and though delayed for a bit due to a family visit, one can easily infer/imply/read specific proof that though she didnât go at the time she preferred, she did still visit some schools, whatever the reason was. And now, we see the product of her process, the fact that she is going to JC,âŠflowergirl19 about 10 years ago

The look in Guntherâs eyeâs says heâs back in self control mode. I think that the ego boost Tiff just gave him was helpful. I think he feels better that she is treating him differently than back in High School where she wavered between taking advantage of him and avoiding him.

Diagramming of sentences doesnât fit neatly into the standardized tests that are being slammed at kids these days. As you might know if you stopped constantly declaring war on the teaching profession and paid attention to what is actually happening in schools in the US these days.-Classes revolve around âteaching to the testâ because federal aid depends on schools achieving certain averages, and state legislatures continue to cut funds to schools.-It amazes me that people still choose to go into education, but the reality is, fewer and fewer are. The next generation sees that teachers are being blamed for everything while being allowed to do little useful or creative teaching, so they end up getting business or math degrees instead.-The irony is, if public education is to survive, it will have to depend on teachers imported from other nations. (Meanwhile, I have a niece and a nephew who are both teaching English as a second language in Asian countries, where they are actually allowed to teach and not run memory drills.)-That mayor may not end the teacherâs union that you have such a hatred for, though. Even green card workers in the US join unions when their safety is not protected by their employer, or reasonable working conditions (like access to clean restrooms and necessary equipment) canât be secured any other way.-You should ask a coal miner about why there is a need for unions.
