Reminds me of that Beauty Pageant contestant’s gaffe a while back… or even that celebrity quote about making another celebrity “…look like a ’rock scientist”. – Tiffany says she loves a good mystery novel…. She says she’s still waiting to see where “Waldo” is. She said it’s the most riveting mystery, after that last “Carmen SanDiego” thriller she read, last year…..

I wouldn’t say “under control”, so much as “a bit more level of a playing field”. Tiffany’s no MENSA member, but she’s smart in ways that Gunther isn’t. One has what the other lacks. – When it comes to school itself, though, back then in HS, it was her turf, more or less. Now, though it’s not altogether his turf, he is a bit more “at home” than she would be…..

Dave… a few things…. First, thank you for posting the image of your mentor. It was nice to see the fellow who came up with that wonderful quote that I like a great deal! Second, you were right about the “Don’t…” statement by Gunther. It did not lead to an angry outburst. I am glad I was wrong, but I also have to say that the end of the last panel from yesterday seems a bit incongruent with today’s work. To me, it seems like Greg could have simply left out the “Don’t…” and yesterday and today would have meshed a bit better. For some reason, the “Don’t…” comment feels like it was meant to be important, but I cannot figure out a reason for it. And, now it seems as if it has become UNimportant.

Even though Tiffany is unimpressed with “University” being more school and classes… she IS sticking with it, and with no indication to the contrary thus far, it appears she is succeeding (at least moderately…. she would have had to have earned AT LEAST "gentlemanly "C’s (or a “C” average))" in her classes to not have gone on probation). So, while Tiffany has other aspirations, it seems she is doing what is necessary to accomplish her work at the University. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Overall, I think Tiffany has grown considerably and has become a kinder, more positive character.

Why are we supposed to believe that there’s a “new Gunther” now? All the while that Gunther was in Lima and then finally in the village, it was “classic Gunther”. On what was supposed to be his last day in the country, when Luis was driving him to the airport, it was “classic Gunther”. Then after he spent one week on the tour bus we are supposed to think he is somehow a new man? If this were true, what on earth happened during that week to make it so?

Since Luann is supposed to be an “average teenager”, Greg Evans wants the “other” blonde in the strip to be really dumb, to make his heroine look good by comparison. He now wants Luann’s once-and-future suitor Gunther to start acting more manly, too, so that people will not think Luann had to settle for a loser when they finally do hook up.

It seems clear that Greg Evans wants Gunther to learn how to act around girls, so that he can write the big Gunther-Luann romance he always felt Gunther deserved to have happen to him, for being such a “nice guy”. (And the nice guys always get the girl, right?) Rosa, however, failed to build Gunther’s self-confidence (except to lure him away to Peru, just long enough for Mommy to start dating, and that has had a major impact on the G-Man). So maybe now Tiffany can help make Gunther less of a wuss.

We didn’t actually see Luann on her college visits. We saw the strip where she left on the trip and the strip where she came back (the one posted above, with Quill in the food truck) but all the intervening strips were devoted to Brad and Toni. The whole college visit thing was spontaneous, since only one strip was devoted to her deciding to check out schools, while she accompanied her parents on a Thanksgiving trip to visit her aunt. Luann’s motives for the visits perhaps says all that needs to be said about her devotion to pursuing a college degree:-

If one were to put these in sequence, it would tell the actual story (as someone mentioned, yesterday). Whether specific or inferred : -

    – Though she was not looking at colleges to “boost” her “Honors Program” creds, and though she did include certain “conveniences”, and though delayed for a bit due to a family visit, one can easily infer/imply/read specific proof that though she didn’t go at the time she preferred, she did still visit some schools, whatever the reason was. And now, we see the product of her process, the fact that she is going to JC,…

Diagramming of sentences doesn’t fit neatly into the standardized tests that are being slammed at kids these days. As you might know if you stopped constantly declaring war on the teaching profession and paid attention to what is actually happening in schools in the US these days.-Classes revolve around ‘teaching to the test’ because federal aid depends on schools achieving certain averages, and state legislatures continue to cut funds to schools.-It amazes me that people still choose to go into education, but the reality is, fewer and fewer are. The next generation sees that teachers are being blamed for everything while being allowed to do little useful or creative teaching, so they end up getting business or math degrees instead.-The irony is, if public education is to survive, it will have to depend on teachers imported from other nations. (Meanwhile, I have a niece and a nephew who are both teaching English as a second language in Asian countries, where they are actually allowed to teach and not run memory drills.)-That mayor may not end the teacher’s union that you have such a hatred for, though. Even green card workers in the US join unions when their safety is not protected by their employer, or reasonable working conditions (like access to clean restrooms and necessary equipment) can’t be secured any other way.-You should ask a coal miner about why there is a need for unions.

SPOILER ALERT-Conversation continues between T and G, and I pretty much called it on why she’s where she is. Interesting that, just like Rosa, T has alphabetical plans, too…
