Yes they want the certainties of the Bible, mostly, because science is like a priesthood to them. (It isn’t.) They speak in a foriegn language. (Technical jargon.) And they tend to have unpleasant things to say. (About pollution, dumping, AWG mass extinction.) With no dues ex Machina to save everything. It is all on us and that is too heavy a burden for them if they actually accept the fact that humans have done this.

The problem with Danae’s argument is the “whenever we feel like it” part. You either float all of the time or never.

The ‘built into the bones’ instinct to distrust those who know more than we do, and the tendency to believe those who sound like they know more than we do.

If a public vote was all it took to overthrow physical laws, then we would already be floating “whenever”. . . . wait a minute – perhaps physical laws don’t have to follow the dictates of the electoral college . . . it’s a good thing the popular vote went for Science and the rule of Physical Law!

I’m reminded of 17 years ago, when one of the “articles” in The Onion was about the Christian Right demanding repeal of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

“The controversial law of nature, which asserts that matter continually breaks down as disorder increases and heat is lost, has long been decried by Christian fundamentalists as running counter to their religion’s doctrine of Divine grace and eternal salvation.”

Being conservative (no, I am not a Trump supporter, but I think Hilary is reprehensible, too) does not mean you are anti-science. But then I guess if you can only think in terms of stereotypes…

Science is designed to expose liars. ’Don’t believe it until you’ve been told how to do it and you’ve done it yourself’ is how it works. Results must be able to be replicated. Predictions have to be able to be tested. .and. Theories must be consistent with everything that is known. It is a powerful tool for defining our collective best estimate of reality.

Wouldn’t it be nice if people would keep their political musings to themselves and not pollute the comics with their rants? Do you think anyone cares what your opinion of certain politicians is? KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!

I think you are all missing the point. This arc is a satirical comment about how people will sign any petition just to protest something, even if the petition doesn’t make sense or any basis in fact.

“Petition to Stop Science Oppression”. I’d totally sign that if it referred to stopping the oppression of science, but apparently Danae meant oppression by science.

Modern Republicans are becoming neo-Know Nothings, and are proud of it. Question: how can anybody be proud of being ignorant, dishonest, stupid, and crazy? (But enough about Donald Trump……….)

This is comical in a twisted way. I find the liberal/left to be the most clueless about science and scientific principles. My original major was physics. Shouldn’t her marks be SJWs and such.

Anyway, no more time for Smart Russian Trolls and Stupid Trump supporters. Hey, you can’t be real smart if you vote against a true patriot, Hillary Clinton and vote for a Treasonous Russian money launderer like Trump. Sorry, that is something that does not make you smart.

So Wiley, what I really wanted to say was LOL and apologize for forgetting about those stupid like buttons. So, Wiley, whether I push that like button or not, just figure I do. OK?

Now I must go, before that pesky guy throws his cloak over the flat world to make it dark for night. Hope none of the patches fall off, I’d like to see the stars tonight. :P

Those kinds of arrogant and condescending remarks are what got Trump elected!

Trump is president because of folks like you! When are you going to understand that?

You have to go to flyover country and convince them your way is the right way.

Uh, except for Montana, which is in the process of burning down. Bet ya didn’t know that.

Too many comments to wade through, but has a physicist (or anyone reasonably educated) tried explaining to Danae that gravity is the WEAKEST of the 4 fundamental forces?

A small magnet overcomes the Earth’s gravity when it picks up a paper clip; so does a large magnet when it picks up a car. Heck, YOU overcome the Earth’s gravity all the time, when you pick up a book, or jump in the air, or just pick up your feet and walk!

    Strong Nuclear Force

    Electromagnetic Force

    Weak Nuclear Force

    Gravity
