Any guy would be very fortunate to have such a beautiful, intelligent wife who is so in love with him, and vice-versa. An idyllic relationship.
And actually a big contrast to most of the other relationship stumbles in this strip. Only Frank and Nancy compare. Must be in the family genes or culture.
Wow! Toni is really laying it on thick. She doesn’t usually go for this kind of mushy stuff. What is she really after here? My guess is she is buttering up Brad before she lays the, “Now we are married, I would like to adopt Shannon" line on him.
Too mushy for my taste. And seems unlike Toni….first Tiffany, now Toni? Okay, Tiffany was nicer and more tolerant of Luann last week. Now, how will Toni be this week? Why is she mushy? Building up to something?
It almost does seem like Toni is buttering Brad up to get him to agree to adopt Shannon. However I haven’t seen anything to the effect that Jonah is willing to give Shannon up. On the other hand, maybe Toni is about to tell Brad that she has a Christmas present for him – but she can’t deliver it until next September.
I don’t think that Toni is trying to butter Brad up. Anyhow, that’s not really the point. Toni taking the time to acknowledge to Brad how grateful she is for him, and I find this arc very sweet.
This made me cry my eyes out. I can relate to Toni. My hubby is the best thing in my life. I’m so terrified that the pain in his spine could be cancer . . and what if I lose him? I won’t be able to get over it, won’t be able to function. Sorry guys for sharing so much personal stuff. I have no one to talk to about it and I had to get it off my chest. :(
My prediction: They will adopt Shannon AND Toni will get pregnant. That will give them a nice little family with a child old enough to be assigned dialogue.
So many people see somewhat selfish motives for Toni simply summarizing her love for Brad, and he commenting on how loving her changed him from the shlub he was to the “knight in shining armor” who rescued the beautiful princess for the ugly ogre. Of course in Luannverse the ugly ogre changed like Shrek does and gets his own princess and kids I for one hope they get pregnant, and if Shannon is to be adopted, or at least joint custody, I hope it happens.
1. While I am appreciative of the true affection and care that Brad & Toni have for each other, I must say that as a comic that has progressing story arcs, this feels like a bit of a “stalling out” so-to-speak.
2. If Toni is simply preparing to inform Brad of either a) a pregnancy, or b) a desire to adopt Shannon, then it seems this would have been more hinted at by today (Wednesday) within Greg’s typical pattern for arcs. So, I am predicting that NEITHER a pregnancy nor an adoption discussion is imminent.
3. It is my hope that Greg does not yet pursue a pregnancy arc for Brad and Toni. I would rather he spend more time on developing a) their early marriage, b) interactions with setting up their house/home, c) interactions with the roommate, TJ, and d) interactions with Shannon.
4. It is also my hope that Greg does not pursue “adoption” of Shannon by Brad and Toni. I like the opportunities that exist with Jonah simply being the “flaky” character who provides a lot of unpredictability for Greg to use.
5. If push-comes-to-shove, and Greg pursues an arc where Shannon lives with Brad and Toni long term, I hope that it is an agreed upon temporary guardianship or some such thing (perhaps if for instance, Jonah leaves for a year in Europe with a traveling troupe of some sort). This could give Greg a while to explore the long-term living situation of Shannon, but also keep ties with Jonah.
6. “Drove a beat-up Chevy?”…. as in the past tense? I thought Brad was STILL driving and fixing up his late 70s Chevy Nova? Maybe he had done enough body work and interior work on it now that it is no longer “beat-up”?
Pipe is finished and coffee consumed. Back to work.
Technically, this would have been better if Toni’s balloons in the last panel were combined into one, or at least connected. Seeing two discrete balloons makes the reader think both characters are speaking.
Folks are bouncing the pregnancy or Shannon adoption issue as lurking plot. A third possibility is that Toni wants to have a place of their own sooner rather than later. This would have to include TJ.
Call me cynical, but I figure Toni is buttering up Brad for some reason. Maybe she’s gonna tell him she’s pregnant, or maybe it’s something else. She’s gonna quit the PFD (Pitts Fire Department)? I dunno exactly what, but something….
Greg seems to be hung up on doing the right thing for an unwanted kid. And, if anyone disputes that, be prepared to be sent on a guilt trip by the comments in this blog. Newly weds should have their privacy and not be baby sitters on call.
Reality check for all you young uns out there-you’re not going to score an unbelievably hot girl just by being a “nice guy”. Those are a dime a dozen—irl you’d better be good-looking,prosperous and/or famous
