Wait a minute. LuAnn is actually cleaning in anticipation for Jack and Tara coming over? Just how serious is this ’friend’ship with Jack? (Or is it Tara)?
I’m guilty of that – clean up the house when I’m having guests over. I used to clean weekly when I was younger but not these days – I say to myself it’s just dust. Just wait till somebody’s coming over – the dust is gone. I much rather do other stuff than clean house. And no, I won’t hire cleaning service – I worked for a few of those and know a few things about them…Would be nice to live in a hotel with a small kitchenette – I don’t need a big one – where the room gets cleaned daily and the bed made, the clean towels hung on bars.
Schrodinger’s Dog called this yesterday. I mentioned that Luann had already helped clean up in the past, but that nobody noticed and that it would take awhile for them to notice because of her reputation.
Luann is what I call an “event cleaner.” There are people who clean all the time and people who clean for special occasions. I think Luann is the latter.
The study session is probably just a way for Luann to “test the water” by bringing Jack around to see what their reaction is to him. Kinda meet mom and dad…
I felt bad for her parents having to deal with her sloppiness her whole life, until I remembered that they were the ones who let her get away with it and therefore enabled it. She’s gotten so bad that they allow her to give “I will meet the minimum expectations of cleanliness while living here” as a damn Christmas gift instead of something she was simply expected to do (and she even ended up screwing that one up).
They have no one to blame but themselves for Luann living like a pig.
As Brdy so eloquently put it above, it’s going to be REAL interesting to SEE Frank and Nancy’s “reaction” to Jack. Tara too, but really I really wanna see what happens when they get a load of Jack.
Now correct Me if I’m wrong, but is Jack about the sixth guy that has ever come over to see her? Gunther, Quill, that Cockroach Elwood, Maybe Aaron Hill (He did once pick her up on a final date). Also Ben York (Who SHOULD have been Luann’s boyfriend IMHO) once came over, but with with Bernice. And of the group, the guys I’m sure the parents met were Gunther, Quill Aaron and Elwood. At any rate, THIS encounter with the parents should be quite “Telling” moving forward.
Oh. And in fairness, I must add that when Luann once “studied” with My Favorite Nerd, Nancy interrupted them with cookies. So, Irma is not the ONLY mom that does THAT.
If I was a complete snarker, I’d be wondering what kind of study session Luann is planing on having, with all the stockpiling of food, and, cleaning that she’s doing. Of course, presuming that her parents won’t be home. But, I’m not, so I won’t.
Hmm… not a transition to a different arc (after a pattern of this for a few weeks). Interesting.
Cleaning for guests seems (from my upbringing, I guess) perfectly normal. I am a little surprised that Luann is actually doing that though. :)
It will be interesting to see how Luann and company fare with this Chemistry exam. Two kids who did not pay much attention, and a third kid who wasn’t there…. Is an “F” in each of their futures?
Theoretically, it is possible that this crew could read the textbook for the class and try to figure out the material for the exam. But…. that a) presumes one of them at least has bought the textbook. A lot of kids try to skirt though without the textbook. However, even if they read the textbook, they are making their lives more difficult, because the professor would have guided them on what was most significant and then using the textbook would be an easier to utilize help.
More likely than not, however, the dynamic trio will mostly talk, chat, and socialize instead of study. Socialization is a good thing… but not at the cost of their grades.
Jack will charm their socks off, and so will Tara. These are friends in college, hanging around together, studying, acting like college students: who would have thunk it!? Lets see if my predictions will pan out, along with anything else.
This is a rare example of a sunday comic’s theme following into the week. Both featured adult children being uncharacteristically helpful to their parents.
The last time Luann was shown to have a messy room was 1-1-18, nearly a year ago. At that time, she said she was “going minimalist”, and asked Brad to help her get everything out of her room. There have been no further drawings of Luann’s room except the one on 9-22-18, when it was shown to be neat and organized. Luann helps children at Kids 1st. She helped Fay get along with her mother, coached Fay when she tried out and won the lead in her school play, and helped Fay with her relationship with her boyfriend, Axel. She encouraged Jack in his career choice, and even changed a tire for him. She has a job, goes to school and is not on drugs. She appears to be an all around good person. Yet all anyone can do is make snarky remarks about Luann’s room. There are snarky remarks in the comments, and snarky remarks by Nancy. I wish people would keep up with Luann’s progress and give her some credit. She’s a good person.
I’ve always found study groups to be a waste of time. I would do much worse on tests than when I studied on my own. I will concede, however, I know people who do well with group study. Some folks got miffed ( even after I explained my reason) because I wouldn’t join a group, but my grade was more important.

After pruning the house for ‘the arrival,’ will tomorrow see Luann “coaching” Frank and Nancy on their behavior around Jack…Oh, and Tara too?
