She is a user. She breezes in with some exclamations about recent drama in her life, grabs the notes kindly offered to her and zooms out. Jack and Luann, forget her. She will only drag them into her drama – like the other night when she drug Luann to that frat party where Luann wised up and called Jack to come and get her.

All this talk about bestie-ality. Is this still a family comic strip?

I didn’t realize they were actually taking notes. I trust Jack didn’t just hand Tara two pages of emojis!

Interestingly, when Tara said she was going to get the notes from her bestie, she was talking to both of them, but Jack immediately assumed that he was the bestie and handed her the notes. Tara exclaimed, “OH!”, like she was surprised that Jack figured he was her bestie without hesitation.

Hasn’t he heard of Xerox machines?

I had a 4PM history class and it was a pain so I only went for tests and wrote a paper. I got a B+.

They actually took notes during that Chem class? I thought they just texted snarks to each other the whole time. And, Jack and Luann studying? Could it lead to “studying”?

The strip is showing its age. In 2018 Jack would just scan his notes and send Tara the PDF. Actually, he would probably have all his notes, along with videos of the lectures, on his laptop already. Tara could download all the homework she missed from the course’s Web site.

Exit the holiday fruitcake. And now, the touch: is it fleeting or lingering? Will Luann respond or just brush it off? Will our plain Jane amp up the glamour factor? Push the attractive button? Put out the emotional Welcome mat? Or, will Greg just move on to another mini-arc?

This is not the same Jack whom we scorned in Luann’s art class. During the year or more when he never appeared in the strip, that Jack was replaced by his much smarter, more charming twin brother.

Oh, LuAnn; you’re just like, SO clueless. Just a matter of time and the clock is ticking….

So what We’ve got here is, “Study Buddies: The Next Generation.”

Once upon a time, Luann had this guy she studied with named “Gunther” that once helped Luann pass a class, not to mention, helped her in numerous other endeavors. Many years later, that same guy helped Tiffany pass courses in college. And in the End, the poor sap got NOWHERE with either one of the ladies. Now, how much You wanna bet that Jack will succeed here, in his “studies” with Luann beyond all expectations?

It’s like I and many others have been saying. G&K took the “best” of what Gunther had to offer, his kindness and gentlemanly qualities and incorporated them into Jack, leaving Gunther an empty, prissy, burned out, shell. Jack IS, in effect, the “New Gunther.” Which In, and of itself, is both Encouraging and Sad for Us handful of “Gunther Fans.” Jack is getting ALL the positive character development. Gunther ISN’T.

So Yeah, like My good friend Luann1212, I’m rooting for Jack because at the end of the day, “He” is going to be the closest to a “Nice Guy” ever “Winning” in this Strip. Again, both Encouraging and Sad.

Brilliant plan, Jack old boy! You hint to Tara that she might be your “bestie” by responding to her comment with the notes. THEN Tell Luann you consider her your “bestie” and get some “study time” alone. Hey. A guy’s gotta help his options open. In case the Luann “relationship” goes South!

WOW One frat party and a 5-panel reappearance and suddenly Tara is a “user”??? She hasn’t played anyone false so far.

Umm… Luann? You spent the whole class texting on your phone!

Jack is shaping up to be a very fine boyfriend.

So Luann’s notes may get pushed aside as she and Jack learn more about “chemistry.”

The surprise is on Tara; Jack’s notes consist of meaningless doodles.

So when will we learn that Tara was locked up after police busted the party?

But they were too busy texting to take “excellent” notes!

With all their snarky texting, did either of them even have time to take notes?

Jack really likes Luann, and wants her to be a best friend and more, but he is patient enough to wait for more, and Luann is better off gradually going into a romantic relationship, given how hard and fast she can fall, and after Quill disappointed her so much with his interest in career, and her after, second place, when it was convenient for him. Jack seems to have too much wisdom and sensitivity to do that. Tara recognizes this with all her craziness, recklessness (Luann still sees her as a bestie, wonder how Bernice will react). This is a great turn of events for our girl. Hope she doesn’t blow it.

Jack must be wanting to unbutton Luann’s tight little jacket.

For Sunday, it would be great to see the third frame above – repeated twice without captions – then Luann puts her hand on Jack’s shoulder and draws him in for a good kiss. Then we are ready to jump to another arc.

Interesting that so many posters here have focused on the “how can they have adequate notes when all they did in class was text each other?” We saw maybe three minutes worth of a 50 to 80 minute class. I would tend to believe that they were taking notes, but showing it would be dull, so Greg and Co. left it off panel, only to be referred to today. Oh, and Luann doesn’t have her notes with her at the moment, as her backpack has disappeared—perhaps its now in her car, which also happened off panel.

Jack is going to study with his bestie? That’s probably a good idea, since maybe Nil took better notes than Luann did.

When teaching school, I told the class to pay attention and take notes….that I was going to give them what they needed to know for tomorrow’s test…..some did….others didn’t. After I’d finished, I told them that he ones who had paid attention had an exact copy of the test….those that didn’t—-oh, well—-because I knew those that had taken the time to take notes weren’t going to share with the lazy ones who didn’t. True enough, those that didn’t pay attention failed while those that took notes passed with flying cololrs.
