In my experience? Foxes do act more like cats. You may not be far off the mark, Lupin. ;)

I like the little heart on the second fox picture – and I’m very curious about it! Who is this special fox? Does Lupin have a backyard friend? Maybe it’s a famous TV or movie fox he’s a fan of – any suggestions? Given Lupin’s Cat of Adventure ways, my first guess is Disney’s “Robin Hood”. (Lupin would probably like Robin’s hat!)

Love how Natasha ‘bounces over’ his ears.

And, Lupin? Just because you’re not natural enemies, doesn’t mean you’re family.

Earlier this week I saw a gorgeous dog fox trotting thru the still dry grasses of our prairie meadow. He looked sleek and healthy so he must have had a good winter. Looked like he was heading from our woods to the woods behind the house across the road. I felt so lucky to have looked out the window at that moment; in 12 years I have seen a fox just three times.

Poor confused Lupin. Although having recently seen an Arctic fox bounding around, I can understand why Lupin feels kinship.

I feel rather sorry for Lupin, not being able to find a big cat to channel. I think he would do very well if he tried a snow leopard.

On the home front, I have to haul Paul out of bed, kicking and screaming, so we can go get blood work done this morning.

Leave it to the cat whose name roughly means “Wolfish” to be confused about what’s a wild cat and what’s a wild dog.

With a name like Lupin, I’d think he held an affinity for wolves rather than foxes. Or should we start calling him Vulpin?

My mom had a rescue Siberian Husky from a puppy mill who was the coloring and size of a really big fox…one day, she and the rest of the pack escaped the yard (actually, this was practically a weekly occurrence) and she got separated from the rest, who I tracked down easily (they were on the playground, happily shagging balls for a practicing team). We called the police to let them know she was missing, and they responded with “Hey we have a report here that might be her” (yeah, our pack was a little (in)famous with the local fuzz). Turns out an elderly neighbor had called in to report “a really big fox” resting in her rose garden!

My dear panda cat friend, Roli Poli, had to be put to sleep today.  Last August, he was diagnosed with diabetes.  The last two days, he had become lethargic and wasn’t eating.  I took him into the vet today, and they found that his diabetes had evolved into another kind that would eventually cause damage to both the liver and the kidneys.  A treatment would’ve involved injecting him with glucose 12 times a day.  He would’ve had to have gone to an animal hospital and the treatment would’ve been over $1,000 — and it still might not have worked.Cats are supposed to be curious, and that was Roli Poli through and through.  He had to explore every inch of my trailer several times over.  Many times, he made his way to the top of the entertainment center, a place where he liked to survey his surroundings and nap.  His favorite toys were milk jug rings,  Every now and then, he and Clayton (his older brother, who is still with me and in apparent good health) liked to go outside.  I’d go with them to make sure they didn’t wander too far away.  Their favorite thing outside was to go under the other trailers near mine. The two of them got along remarkably well.  They’d have their occasional wrestling matches, but it also was not unusual to find them curled up against each on a chair or in their cat bed, grooming each other and sharing naps.I only had Roli Poli for 11 years, the shortest I’ve had any cat that passed because of natural causes.  (I once had one cat that lived to be 20.)  And, to me, one of the rules of life is that, no matter how long you have any pet, it isn’t long enough.Right now, Clayton is stretched out on my computer desk in front of my monitor.  I don’t think he’s missed Roli yet.  I don’t look forward to the time when he will realize he’s gone.In two weeks, Roli will be cremated and his ashes put into an urn.  He will spend his years with me for however many I have left myself. You were a good boy, Roli Poli.  I miss you.

I think it’s thoroughly appropriate for Lupin, the group Rougue and trickster to have a fox as his spirit animal.
