I like the little heart on the second fox picture â and Iâm very curious about it! Who is this special fox? Does Lupin have a backyard friend? Maybe itâs a famous TV or movie fox heâs a fan of â any suggestions? Given Lupinâs Cat of Adventure ways, my first guess is Disneyâs âRobin Hoodâ. (Lupin would probably like Robinâs hat!)
Earlier this week I saw a gorgeous dog fox trotting thru the still dry grasses of our prairie meadow. He looked sleek and healthy so he must have had a good winter. Looked like he was heading from our woods to the woods behind the house across the road. I felt so lucky to have looked out the window at that moment; in 12 years I have seen a fox just three times.
My mom had a rescue Siberian Husky from a puppy mill who was the coloring and size of a really big foxâŠone day, she and the rest of the pack escaped the yard (actually, this was practically a weekly occurrence) and she got separated from the rest, who I tracked down easily (they were on the playground, happily shagging balls for a practicing team). We called the police to let them know she was missing, and they responded with âHey we have a report here that might be herâ (yeah, our pack was a little (in)famous with the local fuzz). Turns out an elderly neighbor had called in to report âa really big foxâ resting in her rose garden!
My dear panda cat friend, Roli Poli, had to be put to sleep today. Â Last August, he was diagnosed with diabetes. Â The last two days, he had become lethargic and wasnât eating. Â I took him into the vet today, and they found that his diabetes had evolved into another kind that would eventually cause damage to both the liver and the kidneys. Â A treatment wouldâve involved injecting him with glucose 12 times a day. Â He wouldâve had to have gone to an animal hospital and the treatment wouldâve been over $1,000 â and it still might not have worked.Cats are supposed to be curious, and that was Roli Poli through and through. Â He had to explore every inch of my trailer several times over. Â Many times, he made his way to the top of the entertainment center, a place where he liked to survey his surroundings and nap. Â His favorite toys were milk jug rings, Â Every now and then, he and Clayton (his older brother, who is still with me and in apparent good health) liked to go outside. Â Iâd go with them to make sure they didnât wander too far away. Â Their favorite thing outside was to go under the other trailers near mine. The two of them got along remarkably well. Â Theyâd have their occasional wrestling matches, but it also was not unusual to find them curled up against each on a chair or in their cat bed, grooming each other and sharing naps.I only had Roli Poli for 11 years, the shortest Iâve had any cat that passed because of natural causes. Â (I once had one cat that lived to be 20.) Â And, to me, one of the rules of life is that, no matter how long you have any pet, it isnât long enough.Right now, Clayton is stretched out on my computer desk in front of my monitor. Â I donât think heâs missed Roli yet. Â I donât look forward to the time when he will realize heâs gone.In two weeks, Roli will be cremated and his ashes put into an urn. Â He will spend his years with me for however many I have left myself. You were a good boy, Roli Poli. Â I miss you.

In my experience? Foxes do act more like cats. You may not be far off the mark, Lupin. ;)

Poor confused Lupin. Although having recently seen an Arctic fox bounding around, I can understand why Lupin feels kinship.

so who saw the savage chickens comic strip for today? I think it may be a reference to BCN but i cant be sure

I feel rather sorry for Lupin, not being able to find a big cat to channel. I think he would do very well if he tried a snow leopard.
On the home front, I have to haul Paul out of bed, kicking and screaming, so we can go get blood work done this morning.

Those fox drawings look more like cats. No wonder poor Lupinâs confused. Not his fault!

When I was a wee thing I thought foxes were the product of dog + cat.

Leave it to the cat whose name roughly means âWolfishâ to be confused about whatâs a wild cat and whatâs a wild dog.

With a name like Lupin, Iâd think he held an affinity for wolves rather than foxes. Or should we start calling him Vulpin?

Foxes would make good pets. A cross between a dog and a cat. I love foxes.
Lupin just saw the mouse, or did he?
tricksterson almost 6 years ago
I think itâs thoroughly appropriate for Lupin, the group Rougue and trickster to have a fox as his spirit animal.
