…at our fingertips if we have the money to pay for them. The device only makes us more aware that we can’t have them because we can’t afford them. I’m not affected, knew I couldn’t afford everything before the Internet was invented.
You have to take the good with the bad. Undoubtedly, modern communication technology has made our lives easier, but we have to control the urge to immerse ourselves in it. I have never used Twitter nor do I intend to do so, and I use Facebook mainly as a glorified birthday / anniversary reminder, and to occasionally update myself about goings-on in the lives of my more “socially active” friends and relatives.
I’m really happy, while I have a laptop that I check once a day, my cell phone is a “stupid” phone not a smartphone. I can call, I can text, I can leave it on vibrate in my purse and not be bothered by it all day. I check it once in the morning and once at night (providing I remember to check it at all!). I absolutely refuse to let a device control my life! I have my cats and my music to do that for me.
The more you know about how much better some people have it, the more PO’d you are about how you cannot have it that good. Some people are able to use that to better themselves, but lots of us don’t really have the option of being born rich or in a better country.

Those of us who remember getting lost, missed connections, and bar fights over sports trivia are quite happy!

We live in an era of unprecedented prosperity and plenty, if we are miserable, it is not the fault of technology.

Well, Renatus, welcome to the ranks of the ROFs. What does ROF stand for, you say? Why, it’s Retired Old Fart.

Goat’s pointing at his old Palm Pilot from ‘96. He got one of the early models that came with a curse bundle for $1200.
