Good morning™, happy Easter and happy Passover, everyone!
I’m not sure I understand why dying in a garbage dump is ironic. Does Barnabas think he is human garbage? It appears that he said that with his last breath, judging by the shape of the speech bubble.
For those kind of criminals dying is too easy to get off from the suffer train he was on. A long lonely frustrating stretch. Doctors are getting better at reviving the newly dead. If they can reach them in time. He may just be unconscious. I’d resuscitate him. Only the living can suffer, the dead do not. And he needs to suffer. Such people should only get out upon death, give his brain to science to study. And inhume him with just his prison number to identify him. And above all don’t mention it.
once again, although he is a bad guy, another criminal’s needless death, because in real life, they would have surrounded him with cops, and taken him in alive.Tracy seems to enjoy killing people; he sure puts himself in enough unnecessary situations so he can play Quick Draw…
The Crimestoppers panel is good for multiple reasons. Leaving a car running, even when sitting at a long stop light, is both a waste of gas and an unnecessary burden on the environment. Modern cars restart very easily, and some will even shut down the engine automatically when it isn’t under load (and I don’t mean just hybrids or electric).
Well this has been a rather disappointing arc. I think we could have done the whole thing without Joe, and there really wasn’t much of a mystery to follow. I imagine the Mayor will be down on the Chief because the DAILY is one of her supporters!
Is Tar’s dying on a pile of garbage really “ironic”? Remember what Phillip Marlowe told us in the penultimate paragraph of Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep: “What did it matter where you lay once you were dead? In a dirty sump or in a marble tower on top of a high hill? You were dead, you were sleeping the big sleep, you were not bothered by things like that. Oil and water were the same as wind and air to you. You just slept the big sleep, not caring about the nastiness of how you died or where you fell.”
I know it is just a comic, but how about giving us a little help suspending disbelief? Face to face, both shoot and the bullet completely miss Tracy! Why not the bullet just grazing his arm or shoulder? The art as always a plus, the storylines are disappointing.
1-BARN: Let’s shoot each others bullets out of the air. That would be so cool! DT: Ok. 2-DT: You missed. BARN: No you did…ugh… DT: Oh? Sorry about that. 3-BARN: How’s my cardigan? 4-BARN: You didn’t hit it did you? I want to be buried in it. Promise me you’ll see that I’m buried in it… 5-DT: Ummm, that’ll be up to whoever finds you. I’m outta here. I can’t afford to get mixed up in a killing over a restaurant food fight. BARN: At least I’ll die knowing I beat the bill…cough…Ol’ Barn’s going out a winner…(last wheeze and gasp)
No bullet hole in DT’s hat – how disappointing! The slug must be in the bullet-proof vest, which is why DT survived and the perp did not! What, you all expect something different from DT???
Joe will now be offered a job on Tracy’s team (he can replace Lt. Teevo or Groovy Grove—neither of those positions have been filled that I know of). He will marry Bonnie who will become pregnant and challenge Kandikane’s record for the world’s longest pregnancy.
I think Joe is like that guy in the old Kingston Trio song, “He may ride forever ‘neath the streets of Boston , he’s the man who never returned.” I still don’t know if this cat’s the serial killer. Proof maybe?
The first two panels look like an homage to the shootout in the opening to the funny “Police Squad” TV series. Even the trash cans are there. RIP Leslie Nielson.
Pleased to see Dick Tracy holding his pistol correctly! Both thumbs on the same side. Proper form no doubt helped him perform well under stress and and successfully defend his life.

So it goes
Blood always flows
Violence begets violence.
Tar is dead
Let it be said
Ill deeds have led to silence.
He lived to kill
Much blood did spill
His victims could not breathe.
He killed with ease
To choke did please
With anger he did seethe.
Tracy wins
Justice grins
The killer is now dead.
Slaughters cease
Return to peace
No need to live in dread.

Can’t believe
What I see
Bullets flying
How can it be
That Tracy’s found
It’s flesh and blood
But Tar-man’s shot
Was just a dud
I suppose if logic
Had run it’s course
Then probably Sam
Would be the next boss
Fortunately for Dick
The strip bears his name
Or else he’d be dying
Like Tar just the same.

Actual on-screen, “real-time” gunplay & a hit. And last we got Grimm with a bloody shoulder wound. The Tribune must be loosening its censorship.

Tracy had him targeted and Tar drew and fired. Result wild shot, Tracy’s direct hit!!! Years of practice at Police range!!!

What a day
To shout hooray
Death has been overcome
The time’s arrived
He is alive
Evil’s on the run
So celebrate
Love defeated hate
Our hearts are filled with glee
The risen one
God’s only Son
Enables us to be free!
….
A happy and blessed Easter to everyone in Tracyville!

Sure hope that Barnabas’ stray shot didn’t hit Joe. He’s still out there, somewhere, isn’t he?

I shouldn’t speak ill of the dying, but…
Couldn’t happen to a better class of trash. No, I don’t apologize. Worthless crap like this doesn’t deserve to be alive.

With all the perps Dick has taken out over the years, you’d think they’d take him off the streets on sheer mental health precautions.

Foolish man, serial killer, Bar Tar draws down on Tracy. Bar Tar falls. Time to take out the trash!
BLAM! And another one bites the dust.
A dramatic confrontation, with a familiar ending.
—Which leaves a week for wrapping up loose ends or heating up a romance, or both….
