With nothing posted after April 30 seems that they are not going to re-run the series after all.. Too bad.. it was a fun series.. especially the comments.

I wonder if we are going to get a comic on Sunday now. After all, they will all be reruns, so why not?

Cleo is counter surfing in protest of Sherpa and Ballard street being stalled at being fixed. They better hurry or Cleo will pay that evil cat up the street 5 cans of tuna to do some nasty stuff to a few people who shall not be named.

Jerry Van Amerongen Must be on vacation

Jerry Van Amerongen has informed fans that he is retiringand his Ballard Street panel will end March 30, 2019.

DEAR FRIENDS: We interrupt my normal posting for this announcement. After nearly 40 yrs. of syndicated cartooning, and a deadline each day of those 40 yrs., I’m announcing my retirement from syndicated newspaper cartooning. For me the time has come to experience daily living without a daily deadline.The final Ballard Street cartoon will run on Saturday March 30th. After that date I have no plans, which is the most exhilarating part for me…

Jerry tells how his cartooning career began:

In 1978 I was living in Minneapolis with my wife and daughter. I was well along in my corporate Sales and Marketing career, 13 years and counting, when I was gripped by the need to get back to doing something creative with my hands. I just didn’t know what! Back in college I completed a two-year Commercial Art curriculum, after bouncing around in the Liberal Arts for three years. Cartoon-like illustrations were always my strong suite, so I thought I’d try cartooning.I took some gag cartoons to a monthly community newspaper located in my neighborhood, which was an all-volunteer enterprise, so they could hardly turn me down. After a year I took some of my better efforts to our daily newspaper The Minneapolis Tribune, who agreed to publish my stuff on a weekly basis. Within the next twelve months I sent some of the better work to three national syndicates. I never heard from one, I got a form letter rejection from another and I got a phone call from the third, The Des Moines Register and Tribune Syndicate, with an offer to syndicate.

The Neighborhood began syndication on October 6, 1980 (above).

The Neighborhood began in 1978 as a monthly titled“The Neighborhood as Seen by Jerry Van Amerongen.”*In 1979 The Neighborhood began appearing weeklyin The Minneapolis Tribune as “Neighbors.”*

Just how do I get to May 1 2019? I am tired f ol’ Hot pants here.

First I’m deprived of my daily amusement for the whole of May so far, and then I read to my dismay that Jerry VA has retired! I would like to thank him very sincerely for all the years of amusing cartoons (and I would really like to start receiving the repeats that it seems were promised to subscribers).

Why has this cartoon stopped? I love it!

Is this comic done? or maybe broken?

People should reads the comments and announcements before asking the questions they answer.

They need to get that 6 year old child out of school so that this site and all the comics can be fixed.

My subscription has been paying for nothing for two weeks now, so I would really like to know whether it’s true that reruns of the comics are going to start and when that will happen.

Congratulations again to Jerry Van Amerongen on his nomination for the Reuben award for Best Newspaper Panel comic in 2018. A well deserved nod from his contemporaries.

GoComics, how about publishing Amerongen’s earlier strip, The Neighborhood?

OK, I’ve contacted GoComics to ask what’s happening with the promised re-runs of Ballard Street. I don’t think they really read what I’d asked since the response dealt with reasons for features being missing from my daily email. It did say, however, that in the absence of new content, even if there are re-runs they will not be included in our emails. It was good for a while to think that we’d continue to receive the Ballard Street comics, starting from 2013 I think someone said, but it seems that that’s the end of it. What a pity they’re unable to start it all over again. I’m not an expert, but I’d have thought that would be simple enough.

You could go to this data in 2013. Same thing.

Oh, for cat’s sake (with a nod to “Breaking Cat News”) will someone please update this strip?

This was his last cartoon. I’ve enjoyed them and wish him well in his retirement.

So sad to see Ballard Street End. It has always been a favorite of mine because the characters were so joyous in their quirkiness. Happy Retirement Jerry!

What’ happened to Ballard Street?

What happened to this toon?

Jerry Van A retired March 31st…. writing elsewhere that there would be reruns here.

From April 1st through April 30th, we did get reruns….

they were the strips that originally ran from April 1st through April 30th, 2013.

Then they stopped, stuck on the last of those, above.

 

When a couple of us commented that it might be a glitch, so everybody should hang on,

a GoComics moderator posted in this forum that they were working on it, but there were some complications….

saying, basically, that we should be patient.

 

Then that moderator’s comments were removed, whether by himself (or herself), or otherwise, we don’t know.

I’m still hanging on, thinking there will eventually be reruns.

 

If everybody would PLEASE just READ THE EARLIER POSTS,

they would find out a lot more than I just said, and not have to keep asking the same questions, or telling everybody that Ballard Street is “over”.

We don’t know yet!

 

Also…. a lot of posts have been removed from this forum, including most of mine…. and I have no idea why.

That’s one reason I haven’t answered any questions I’ve been asked about Ballard Street on other forums….

And I don’t know any more than I just said, anyway!

I wonder if GoComics is experimenting and trying to find out how long we will stick around even if there is no content.

I’ll keep stopping by, ever hopeful to see strips missed, forgotten, or fondly remembered.

I’ve got an idea. Someone, today me, posts the corresponding strip for 2013 here, people read it and possibly post about it here, GoComics deletes, rinse and repeat the next day…
