I think I’m being too emotional about this. I just wrote the last scene of a major project and (minus some editing), five years of my life have pretty much wrapped. I mean, there might be tacked-on side stories in the future, but…it’s an ending. And then I came here, and there’s Tommy with such a beautiful season all of a sudden, and there’s wishes… Make a wish for my story, Tommy.
I gotta go edit. Chapter’s due in less than twelve hours. I need more caffeine.
Hallmark used to make small posters that were around 18 inches wide and 6.5 inches tall. I bought one that showed a dandelion puff against a black backdrop with a few seeds flying through the air. There was a also a poem, in white ink, no author attributed. Guess it was an anonymous greeting card writer:
I wish, I wish that I could know
The places I have yet to go,
The ways I’ll change, the things I’ll do,
The special dreams I’ll make come true,
I wish, I wish that I could see
The life that lies ahead of me.
The edges got tattered over the years from being taped up on my classroom door at the beginning of each school year and taken down at the end. It’s one of only two of my posters I brought home at the end of my teaching career. I trimmed the edges with scalloped craft scissors. It’s taped on my bedroom door.
How many of you, when you were young (like about 50) use to pick a dandelion and blow on it to release all the little seeds and make a wish? I remember doing that. I also picked dandelions on the way home from elementary school to give to my Mom. Now, they are considered an eye-sore the the yard. Go figure.
Georgia’s overview of the apartment in the Big Pink House. I can see the papasan but not the Button That Makes the Man Scream. Also see the vacuum lurking in the closet. But where is the laundry chute to the basement?
My wish for this season is that each of you and those you love will enjoy peace, prosperity, and kindness in your everyday world. Much love to all of the Meg-Orb! Live long and prosper.
I wish that all the kitties and puppies in the world would have healthy, happy homes and that all people that are cruel to animals have the same cruelty thrust upon them for eternity.
Off Topic: Good news. My sister just adopted a shelter cat! She’d been talking about getting one for months. My brother-in-law has Alzheimers. He’s always loved cats. I know the last time I visited them, he obsessed over who was caring for my cats in my absence. He couldn’t remember what I said so he kept bringing it up. My sister found a nice quiet five year old calico. I’m happy to say she reports it’s affectionate and is already starting to cuddle with him. It’s what he needs as their previous cat loved to curl up on his lap. So he needs this as his memory fades and obviously, the cat needs a loving home.
To all who celebrate this long weekend—I wish you beautiful weather, great food, companionship with friends and/or family, and lots of fun! And to those in the path of hurricane Dorian, sending purrs and prayers for safety for you and all of your loved ones, both human and animal.♥️
And Elvis when everything seems to be going wrong and I drop into a panic spiral, and Sophie when I’m absorbed in a book and just don’t want to be bothered!
The sweet potatoes are blooming now for us. I’d say we had a fair gradening season at best so far, though we still have stuff coming in. Some of our cabbage are starting to form heads and we’re still getting some summer squash. Haven’t seen too many this season in comparison to years ago, maybe a dozen and a half when we had a few years where we would be picking half a dozen to a dozen a week all summer long. Tomatoes are really now just starting to come in for us, though we’ve been picking a few thoughout the summer. We’re just starting to pick corn, though it looks like most of it is going to be popcorn (which is interesting because we planted as much popcorn as sweet corn but more popcorn has grown up. Still have gillfeather turnips growing (man the foliage on those really looks promising and some of what we can see of the turnip is hopefully as promising), beets, carrots, peppers (in fact just picked a couple purple bells or, as I like to call them, eggplant peppers) and onions coming in. Gotta go through the regular potatoes and see if we have any more of those to harvest.

Watch your back, Tommy. Rumour is that there’s a strange big orange spy cat on the prowl. Who knows what evil that sneaky feline is planning.

Dandelions going to seed is pretty much the beginning of summer where I live. They bloom in mid to late May.
