If anyone else has a picture of their Tommybaum to share I would love to see it. Also if you tag the picture with #Tommybaum it will help other BCN fans find it. Maybe someday everyone will know what a Tommybaum is.
Cats were originally from hot tropics or drylands. They hate cold and always want to be warm. In our villages, where there were fireplaces for cooking which was full of ash, the cats always loved to sleep in the warm ashes even though it was hot and humid tropics in the first place. People always kept cats around because they hunted and ate rats and mice. Unlike these lazy traitorous cats who ally with robber mice and cheat the benevolent humans.
Well cats do like it about 10 degrees warmer than we do and as much as I love my furbabies I’m not paying to keep it 78 in the house in the winter up here in New England… we use (faux) fleecy throws and blankets and put the fleece side up for the kitties..you can almost see them thinking like Elvis – they realize the fleeces are out and look like they are at the spa. Especially Leo (who is doing really well on his kidney meds, with no saline infusions, thank the Orb) who sleeps on my belly or hip and now gets warm momma and fleece. He’s after me to get back in bed all day lol…have a purrfect weekend folks
Oh, Lupin, baby, please come back from the dark side! it’s time to forgive and make a new friend, (acquaintance?). I can’t stand seeing him like this for such a very long time.
I use flannel sheets all year round. They’re not clammy in the summer, they’re warm in the winter and they’re so much softer than regular sheets. Loaner cat won’t sleep with us though. I don’t know why :( But I put a flannel sheet over the guest bed and she loves to hunker down there.
Since my quilt bit the dust last year, I have three flannel sheets on my bed. It is incredibly warm and cozy. Now on top of the flannel sheets are Belle and Holly Berry. Therefore, when I am all tucked in, I can’t move my legs, because they are camped out on them. Ordinarily not an issue, but because of my arthritis, I have to shift position periodically to stay comfortable. Furthermore, little Holly Berry is so small, I worry I will crush her when I move.
Holly has been assimilated into the Cat Collective and family. Any resistance was futile.
Mittens came into the living room and pooped right in the middle of the floor to show her displeasure of Holly using her litter pan. First time that ever happened. Mittens is also trying to eat all the kitten food, so we have to put it up when Holly is not around.
Holly and Belle are getting along the best. Belle chases Holly and then Holly reciprocates and chases Belle. They play around a cardboard camper with a scratching pad floor. One is inside, holding down the camper fort and the other sticks her paws through the window to re-take the camper from the ‘enemy’. It is all very cute.
Did I mention 8 week old kittens get into EVERYTHING?
No job yet. Boo! I have numerous Resume’s out.
However, we are traveling to Connecticut next week to pick up our son from his Ballet Conservatory. Yeah!
We had bought the tickets and hotel back in September. We will see him perform in the Nut Cracker on Sunday in Hartford at Bushnell Theater. He will be the Nut Cracker Prince on the Sunday Matinee show (the youngest one ever to earn that role at the Conservatory).
Flannels PJs unpacked, flannel sheets on the bed along with the electric blanket and the cats have taken up residency a foot under the sheets. How do you know how cold it is? By how far the cats snuggle under the covers.
Glad to see everyone else’s cats have flannel sheet-dar, mine crawl between the pillows to get between the sheets as soon as the flannels go on – but how did they know?
We adopted one our babies when we lived in Hawaii. She HATES winter and is not afraid to let us know (lots of behavior issues the first winter back on the Mainland). When the flannel sheets and down comforter come out, you have to watch where you sit, because unless she’s eating, she’s probably curled up under the comforter. She gets a little testy when you accidentally sit on her. No clue why;)-
I’ve never heard of a Tommybaum before. I Googled the term, and didn’t find much, but there were some pictures of an orange traffic cone covered in lights. Is it a miniature Christmas Tree?
In the winter Biscuit will sleep during the day under the rumpled comforter on the bed and I will occasionally sit on him or lay my purse down on him. ACCIDENTALLY! REALLY! although he thinks it’s on purpose.
I would have posted yesterday with a little riff on the Phantom lyrics, but my car had other plans! Fortunately, it’s still under warranty and did NOT cost me a DIME!! … All good here! … YAY!!
Our long-ago kitty Nashville (named for the old Lovin’ Spoonful song) loved the day every fall when I brought out a particular afghan. She would get excited as soon as she saw it and couldn’t wait to curl up on it.
She-Who-Is-Annoyed-That-Her-Two-Best-Slaves-Are-Visiting-Family-In-Japan is shedding huge amounts of hair for Summer. I spend all my time with the Furminator and brush. I’m doomed.

Elvis, dial up some Joni Mitchell “Urge For Going” to tide you over until spring:
“I’ll ply the fire with kindling; pull the blankets to my chin
I’ll lock the vagrant winter out, and bolt my wandering in
I’d like to call back summertime and have him stay for just another month or so…”

My last kitty was much more tech savvy. No flannel sheets for him. A fuzzy blanket and a bed with an electric heating pad were his favorite things.

Flannel sheets only work if you don’t wear flannel night shirts, night gowns, or pajamas. The combination is like Velcro™.
