This Christmas holiday focused mainly on the CORE of the Luann Comic Strip: Frank, Nancy, Brad and Luann. With the family dog, Puddles, thrown in for good measure.
It sort of harkens back to the more “innocent” pre-color, “good old days.”
Quaint, and at the same time Refreshing. I guess We could all use a “break” from the Harsh Realities that SOME of the young adults in Strip are currently going through.
And that “Harsh Reality,” could RESUME as early as next week……, ;)
When I got my sister and her husband a garlic roaster one Christmas, I included a three-pound bag of really top-end garlic to use it on. Hardest part was wrapping that so their dog wouldn’t figure out what it was from the smell and go bonkers.
I needn’t have worried. He was so excited at unwrapping his own present (seriously, I think he had more fun opening the chew toy than actually playing with it) that he didn’t even notice the garlic.
I have tried to construct the most asinine, incoherent, condescending, critical, absolutely self indulgent, unimportant personal observations, unfunny, politically biased and irrelevant comments to add to the Luann section; but I am hopelessly outmatched.I do read and am bemused by the Luann comic; but to become moved to share WTF each episode has to do with me or the universe is beyond me.I understand this comic engenders the most comments of any strip on GoComics, and I wonder what Facebook, Twitter or any other social media on the InterWeb must feel about such competition!Boy! Am I glad to get THAT of my chest!
That’s why I got the cats boxes , bags, and blankets for Christmas, the dogs got new beds, blankets, sweaters, and coats and stocking held the same toys as last year.
Not being technical and all that into the start or end of the decade, why is Brad in a robe at the house his sister lives in? I thought he and Toni lived in their own house, or is there something sinister to ponder here?
One of my dogs EXPECTS a Christmas present. I get he and his sister the exact same thing (this year it was a bone) and they fight over which one is best. The two cats don’t care about presents do we don’t bother. . . They are happy with boxes and paper.
Wow nice to know, from an unverified source admittedly, that this the most robust, commented upon strip in GoComics. Personally, I would not be surprised if that is indeed true. The strip is entertaining, actually follows characters in time, with character development, surprises aplenty, drama, villains, funny, oh young love, generational, I mean what’s not to love? Take today for instance,. We know the characters, quite a bit about their histories. Puddles is pretty much universally loved as a character, and his reaction is perfectly typical for dogs, small children, hell even old farts who try to assemble the “requires assembly” stuff inside the box. I sometimes wish I was a kid and could just jump in the box and fight off some Darth Vader in my spaceship. I predict that GnK have stuff in store in 2020 that will have us running to read the strip, and comment on it. 2020 is going to be a helluva year folks. Luannverse awaits.
And for those who complained about the black Christmas tree Thursday (and today), my guess is that this was designed for papers that still publish comics in black-and-white.
Which may have led some folks to think these were reprints. Which they could have been; who says the dates can’t be changed when printing them again? But the drawing style is the fly in the ointment here.
As for me, it’s hard to imagine someone wearing a robe even if it is his parents’ home, even if it is next door. I can only imagine wearing a robe to pick up the newspaper from the front porch – if I had been lazy enough to not get dressed by that point.
But when was the last time a paper was delivered to my doorstep?
How many towns don’t even have a newspaper anymore?
Hence, I have settled upon the notion that these strips are meant to be “flashbacks” – in which G&K have flubbed the retcons.
I spent my Christmas surrounded by other people’s pets. Dog toy squeakers a squeaking and dog toy stuffing a floating! That’s one of the few things I don’t miss as a former slave to our four-legged masters.
For the WHEN IS THE DECADE battle. There is a BIG difference between the century / millennial starting on 1/1/2001 and when the decade starts.
ANY decade / century / millennial can start whenever, but when we talked about THIS century / millennial the implication is that it is counting from the beginning of what use to be “A.D.” and is now called “C.E.” (Common Era.) In THAT light THE beginning of “C.E.” was January 1, 1 CE, which is the day after December 31, 1 BCE. THERE IS NO YEAR 0.
SO THE CENTURY / MILLENNIAL DID BEGIN 1/1/2001.
BUT, we don’t tie current decades to any specific year, so YES, it is common to count decades based on the second to last digit in the year, like the 70s, 80s, et cetera.
In THAT light this IS the last year of the decade, and 2020 starts a new decade.
Did Luann get excited like Puddles when Brad gave the Fireman` Foot Locker to Luann? Also is Brad is drinking coffee or a hot chocolate?Does Brad & Toni still have TJ as a roommate? Happy 2020!
This week’s cartoons have become like Bernice: Unattached. They exist in an independent Twilight Zone. At best, they are Puddle’s dream. They are not intended for any arc. They have been reconstituted, recalled, reassigned. and pulled out of moth balls. Now, we can just sit back and see if Luann’s “big chest” appears in any future drawings. I doubt it.
Looks like Brad’s made himself real comfortable, sleeping over at this house instead of his own with wife and roomiebro. And it’s the holidays. Can this marriage and bromance be saved?
