I only stay home on my days off. I work at a retail store that has a grocery section and am considered an essential worker. We are SUPER busy. We have sold SO many TVs. People are bringing their stimulus checks to our store. Sold out of consoles and laptops. Low on TVs.
I’ve rediscovered the joy that is Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts. Not that I ever forgot, but they are my kryptonite, so I’ve been avoiding them for years. It doesn’t help that the big box stores sell them in, well, big boxes.
My wife and I both work at home now, I work day shift, and she works until midnight. I always felt I had to stay up until she got home before going to bed, now I get to say goodnight and get to bed at a decent hour.
Hard to believe two months ago my team packed up and ushered some 70 coworkers out of the office to work from home. Comedy ensued as conferences, meetings, and daily routines adjusted to a new normal. Working Daze has embodied a few of these occurrances. We remain safe, occupied, and managing our Ritas in Western New York!
Building a small greenhouse. We had one a few years ago that was a metal tube frame with a vinyl covering. The vinyl didn’t weather well and was shredded by the end of the first year. I am trying to re-cover it with pieces of a tarp that had previously been a skating rink. I’m trying not to spend much money until I get another job.
I retired just in time for this. I’m putting together a collection (scanning and laying out pages) of my children’s photographs (taken when such things were still printed) and having them produced in hardcover.
Drove my daughter to drug store the other day so she could pickup her meds. It was the first time she’d worn a mask. She came back all excited. She’d accidentally made eye contact with someone and then realized that they couldn’t see her face so she didn’t have to smile or react in any way. She asked if she can always wear face masks.
I was kind of lucky as I had my left shoulder rotator cuff repaired on the 11th of March. So staying inside wasn’t that hard to do. Won’t be going back to work until 16 June. So the worse of this should be over. I do go out twice a week for rehab but that’s it.
I get to work from home so I am still getting a paycheck. I will NOT be getting a stimulus check – for which I am grateful. I am making just enough to be above the threshhold and someone else who really needs it can have “my” check. I am well stocked, food and other necessities-wise, and don’t have to go out (I am not the outdoorsy type anyway). I have my iPad with a wonderful coloring app and many games. My daughter is living with me. My extended family is safe, so my life is on a very positive footing. I am grateful.
My mother-in-law died during all of this (not covid) She couldn’t have visitors BUT my beautiful daughter is a doctor and during her breaks, she was able to share photos and videos with her grandmother before she passed. We are blessed
I was hospitalized, for other reasons, just before the current protocols were in place. I watched very caring medical professionals cope with daily changes, fear from patients, hourly news changes, risking their families and personal health and continue to care for people, all with a good attitude. We should all be thankful our hospitals are staffed with these dedicated, professional, heroic individuals.
An upside to this? Yes! Clean air, kids with their parents, less consumerism, celebrities without makeup, no mass shootings, crime in general is down, neighbors saying hi to each other, community help, money to those who need it, socially funded testing and healthcare, Trump is seen by more people with his pants down, less stress on wild and zoo animals, grasses and weeds feed more birds, local business owners are more appreciated, inflated stock market returns to its actual value, local elected officials are more appreciated, personal goals are adjusted to happier outcomes, real people’s lives have more stories told about them than corporate oligarch or fake celebrity lives, religion is widely seen as non-essential and empty against science, GOP could be wiped out if we’re lucky, the sensible masses are arising together more to finally put in their place those white nationalist and other tot tantrum bully groups, better appreciation of other people around the world as our brothers and sisters, and I’m waiting to hear scientists tell us we’ve slowed down the roaring rate of climate change just a little. [All this is not to diminish the suffering and losses by so many millions of people, definitely a horrible concern on our minds. No, not to take away from that at all. Many are truly scared, hungry and mourning. This is a serious time, but you who survive have a chance to hold onto a better world.] — I posted this to facebook the other day. Copied it here. Have a great Tuesday, all. Stay soapy!
And if you know someone who is an essential worker, tell them thank you. I’m just blessed that our local school board decided that paraprofessionals would still get a paycheck even though we aren’t in school with the students.
I’ve been doing this most of my life so I am very busy alone. Going out only twice week now. The pollution is clearing up and with empty streets the animals return.
I work from home 80% of the time anyway, but there was an adjustment for the other 20% — but at least I’m still employed and getting paid! Otherwise, not much change here other than I enjoy not having the commute! :)
My cat and dog are loving having me home all of the time. I see more families out for walks in my neighborhood. I’m in the high risk category, so I’m pretty limited on what/where I go, and to my surprise there are neighborhood people who check on me to be sure I’m ok. I’ve really appreciated it.
I guess I read too much, I’ll read almost anything but I read alot of dooms day stories. When this started I was happy that the wife I stored up food for the three months I was going to off from work with my shoulder operation.

I don’t know if I’ve ever really had it “together”, but super glue and duct tape DO help.
