Apparently the news agencies think there’s too much news to put much out there about Summer Solstice this year. I was looking forward to reading about it but some of the comics came through for us.
All the Wiccans, Druids, and such will be gathered at Stone Hedge today. No sacrificing of virgins however, (sigh. . .) an endangered species, and therefore protected.

it’s also the shortest night. You will miss 1 second of sleep.

Isn’t it past your bedtime Janis?

And Janis always goes back for seconds.

And you use that second to be grumpier and grouchier, Janis… I’m worried about you. :-(
nosirrom about 4 years ago
It only takes a second to be special.

Plenty of time.

In most places, the latest sunset is a few days after the summer solstice.
You can still celebrate that.
But again… only by seconds.
That day, the sun will also have risen a teeny bit later…
so the day length... the time between sunrise and sunset…. is actually a moment longer than on the solstice.
But it’s the late sunsets I will miss.
I’m not ready!!

The cartoonist is turning Janice into and old biddy ! Hey Arlo, find yourself a good comic lawyer and dump the biddy. You’ll be much happier
JohnRitz about 4 years ago
I’m with Arlo on this, and my wife doesn’t understand either
Michael G. about 4 years ago
Carpe diem, Arlo. Or carpe Janis?

I must be too new to this comic. Janis does not seem to like very much of what Arlo cares about.

Janis is dragged, kicking and screaming, to learning something new today… ☺

It’s the turning point, daylight is done and starts it’s six month journey to the darkness of winter. At least on this side of the world.

Arlo’s always the romantic; Janis is always the stickler, sigh
samfran6-0 about 4 years ago
Last year, at this time, Arlo started whining that the days will be getting shorter.

Holy moly, it’s the solstice already! It’s too soon!

At our latitude tomorrow will be 0 minutes 0 seconds longer than today. In Stockholm tomorrow will be 0 minutes 3 seconds longer.

I prefer longer nights and shorter days.

If I tell my wife that the days will now start getting shorter she will not be happy.

And it’s midsummer! The calendar is wrong….

I love the long days of spring/summer.
mafastore about 4 years ago
I can’t wait for the days to get a bit shorter. Hard to go to sleep with sun coming through the window at 5 am.
Tenner about 4 years ago
We may only lose a second today, but then its 2 or 3, then minutes and by Dec. 21 it is close to 7 long hours
tcviii Premium Member almost 4 years ago
The longest day of the year is how we define the first day of summer.
