I think sitting down and watching Fireflies would be grand! But then again… I’m afraid my cats would try to eat them. Then I would have to clean up the mess. Such picky digestors! :)
This particular strip would make a great poster…..the colors of the night sky, Agnes, and Baba Mouse are so beautiful. I have never seen Baba look so downright happy.
Today is Typewriter Day. Yes, they are still made and used, especially manual ones. They have one very significant advantage over computers and other electronic devices: They don’t require electrical power. Small, lightweight, compact ones are ideal for a writer who wants to write where there is no source of power, whether it’s in the back yard or the middle of the wilderness.
I miss the sound. I wonder if anyone has ever made an application that would play the sound of a typewriter when using an electronic keyboard. I’d buy it.
Nor should the typewriter be dismissed as a dinosaur. It should be respected. After all, Silent Miaow and Honorable Cat, among other monumental works, were written on manual typewriters, and probably never would have been had it not been for these marvelous devices.
OT: “I’ll just read one more chapter before going to sleep.” “Just one more chapter.” “One more chapter.” “To heck with it, I might as well finish it now.”
When I was growing up and we went camping in the UP, kids would run around at night trying to catch fireflies (or lightning bugs) because 3M was buying them to study what made ‘em fire. (I don;t recall that my sister or I ever actually kept any we captured, and that’s OK.)
Eventually, they invented chem-lites (or the process that allows them to be manufactured) and I would tell some troops under me in the Army about this, and they would stare at me and say “Lightning bugs? Fireflies? What are those?”

Makin’ my way toward your town
Walkin’ slow, fireflies blink and I’m spellbound
Agnes chattin’ me up, just making my way
Makin’ a way through the fields
Just to find you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall into moonlit sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight

Agnes drops her mike and plays a soulful rendition of “Over the Moonbow” on her tiny sax as Baba sings:
Somewhere over the moonbow, way up high
There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the moonbow, skies are clear
And we can dream all our dreams at night without any fear
Tonight I’ll wish upon a star
That all troubles are far behind us
Where problems melt like ice rain drops
High above silvery hilltops
That’s where you’ll find me,
Somewhere over the moonbow, brown bats fly
Bats fly over the moonbow
Oh why, oh why can’t I?
[based on a ballad composed by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg]

Owl City: Fireflies
I cannot believe my eyes
As Baba goes out tonight
Into the cool night air
Around her we surmise
Are ten million fireflies
Let’s not be rude we should not stare.
…….
I like to make myself believe
That Baba’s on a mission
It’s hard not to wonder what she’s doing as she goes out
’Cause everything is never as it seems
…….
I’m sure there is no doubt
That Agnes will find out
As soon as Baba’s ready to say
But guessing is such fun
An Agnes will get it Dunn
But it may not be today!
…….
I like to make myself believe
That Baba’s on a mission
It’s hard not to wonder what she’s doing as she goes out
’Cause everything is never as it seems!

Georgia’s art makes me think of this. Perhaps BaBa should see Pucky sitting on a rock and saying:
” If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber’d here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend:
if you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to ‘scape the serpent’s tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.”
