Reminds me of my daughter Amy, a definite night owl as I was was back in the ‘80s when I was her age (she’s an undergrad at FSU up in Tallahassee but stuck with the parents since March). I admit its futile but I do try to get her to do a late morning excursion now and then and you can guess how that rates in the 20 year old girls’s way of thinking; hmmm way below average comes to mind….. One notable exception this summer was the trip to Lowry Park (known to most outside this area as Zoo Tampa), that morning she almost left the old man in the driveway for dragging his feet at 8:00 AM, the park is 20 minutes away and opens at 9:30 and we had bought tickets on-line, guaranteed entry as long as we shown up by noon….. Myself, her and my wife were almost the first people in the park. It made me smile because I was exactly like that as a kid and college aged young adult when it came to the zoo whether it was Lowry Park, Audubon in New Orleans, Birmingham Zoo, the Miami Zoo, Lion Country safari, Grant Park in the ATL or any other great zoo and wildlife park. I enjoyed that day but its been a scary summer for me and many I know…… Tampa is not Miami or South Texas but the Corona is making a definite presence and its almost time for young Amy to start her junior year at FSU. Fall semester is coming and I am a bit worried about classes in person in Tallahassee or heck just about anywhere else. Not sure if its the right time to go back with what is going on right now…… My daughter wants to go back to campus but says she understands if she has to do another semester online. Crazy, crazy times, y’all!
Currently trying to skritch chin while black cat sits in the sun on my footstool, read GoComics, balance My iPad and type! Failure to skritch elicits meows! LOL
To be literal/realistic (while admitting this is a comic strip, where normal rules don’t apply) – it’s highly unlikely that he’d be able to stay in one place, AND have the best sun spot all day. Since the sun moves throughout the day, the location of its spot on the floor moves, too. He’d have to move with it!
Sis’s boss Onyx loves it when sis opens the front door in the afternoon, because it’s her chance to flomp down on her back à la Puck in the sun puddle in front of the storm door & bake her arthritic bones to her heart’s content. Even better, it’s a west-facing door, so the sun puddle doesn’t move all that much. She’s living her best life!
Today we have a lot on our plate: Today is Culinarian’s Day (That means cooks, chefs, bakers, etc.); It is also National Hot Fudge Sundae Day, National Wine and Cheese Day, and the Feast of St. James. So go stuff yourselves like a starving hobbit. (Side note: It’s almost a shame we named MrrrCavity. His eating desires and habits make “Hobbit” a perfect name for him. He is also short, and round. The Practically Spherical Cat.)
It is also National Drowning Prevention Day. Best defense: Teach or learn “survival stroke.” It’s a cross between treading water and a very slow breast stroke/frog kick. It allows the head to go under water between each stroke. You exhale under water, inhale on the upstroke when your head clears. Even someone in poor physical condition can keep this up for hours, leaving hypothermia as the biggest danger.
National Hire a Veteran Day: They wrote a check to all of us “up to and including their lives.” If you have a business, paying their paltry salary (by comparison) is the least you can do.
International Red Shoe Day: Basically, “invisible Disease Awareness Day.” Invisible diseases are things like Lyme’s, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc. Otherwise known as living hell.
National Carousel Day. I’ve never been thrilled by carousels. Let’s change that to Carousal Day, and celebrate National Day of the American Cowboy in a manner fitting for the end of the drive and payday. Cue “Rawhide!” Alternatively:
Yeah, Smokey has four spots she really likes to lay in too. Drives the dogs crazy as she’ll beat them up if they try going by her in two of those spots. Well, drives George and Riley crazy (drives Riley crazy in three spots), Josie depends on her mood on if she wants to dare Smokey. Two of Smokey’s favorite spots block the pathway back to the kitchen and the water fountain. And for Riley, a thrid spot blocks her from a hidey hole (though as Smokey was using that spot for years before Riley came along, I suspect Smokey does it on purpose as a bit of revenge for stealing one of her spots).

Elvis-Anum: Your Majesty, a new passage has been discovered at the Great Pyramid.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: What is in this new passage, Elvis-Anum?
Elvis-Anum: It is empty, but at certain times the sun shines beautifully throughout it.*
At the Great Pyramid
Beatrixia: According to the scrolls, Pharaoh Catfu added many hidden chambers when he had this built, including the Sun Chamber.
The Queen: This is a most momentous discovery. We must summon the Royal Court to determine what to do.
The Queen: We have discovered to legendary Sun Chamber. After much consideration, I think we all know what we must do.
