An Emergency or not is merely a perspective in the eyes of the beholder.
Beyond emergency, as one of six kids, was we âgotta hide out in them dere hills because thereâs no way to explain this one.â
Specifically, I recall a fight as young teenagers where one threw the other straight back into a hallway wall right between the two studs that took out four feet of plaster and board. Had to be pulled out which suspended our âdiscussionâ as enemies became band-of-brothers allies.
After talking over strategy to avoid the repercussions we had one of us tripping and falling and the other saw it happen. I donât know how we sold it when they came home but it saved usâŚfor that time.
Creepy⌠Last evening I was out mowing the lawn and my wife came out waving her arms for me to come quickly. The kitchen sink drain had loosened and water was pouring out of the cabinet below.
A couple of years ago my son woke me in the middle of the night with a similar situation in the bathroom. I asked him if he would have waited that long if it had been a fire? I did get two new bathrooms and a new downstairs kitchen from the insurance company.
Yes. Plumbing can go wrong really fast. Mom is probably doing something in the back yard, talking to a neighbor or even has run to the store on a quick errand.
This was years before âCaptain Zap Branniganâ was interrupted by his first officer with âsomething importantâ. âGet back to me when itâs an emergency.â (Sound of spacecraft hitting space iceberg.)
I see some âshut off the waterâ comments, but if you look, the faucet isnât running, Calvin somehow managed to make the sink back up, so this water is coming up from the drain, Iâm not even sure how he did that, it might not even be his fault.
Where on earth is that boyâs mother?!? Calvin is six years old and ex-tremely âŚ.. imaginative and rambunctious. When you have a kid like that whoâs very well known for making his own kind of âfunâ when heâs bored that is (or has the potential to be) destructive (even if it isnât done maliciously on purpose), you canât take your eyes off them for a single second because anything can, will, and does happen. Case in point: a now-flooded kitchen!
P.S.: I didnât have a kid like that but my husbandâs sister sure did! Made both Calvin and Dennis the Menace look like absolute ANGELS in comparison to him. Quite frankly, I donât know how he made it to adulthood without killing himself in the process but somehow, he did! ;-)
So crazy to read the comments and consider that this was ânormalâ parenting just 20-30 years ago, when the strip first ran. It was typical for kids to run around largely left to their own devices all day long during the summer months. Somehow the vast majority managed not to die or cause minor disasters.

Aussie Down Under over 4 years ago
Whereâs his mum? Hope she can swim. For this escapade Calvin may be up the creek without a paddle (unless Mum is into corporal punishment).

I hope that Dad still has a house when he gets home.

Ignore previous text message. The situation might not be as bad as previously reported. We might salvage something yet.

I suppose using the garbage disposal as a cement mixer is really not a good option.
