It took my wife and I over a year to find a couch that was acceptable to both of us. Was one of the most exhausting situations ever. I wanted one where my head was supported by the couch when I sat back-we eventually found one!
We have a couch right now that is almost exactly like the last panel. Our twin boys LOVE playing on it! (I would’ve, too as a child!!!) But fixing the pillows EVERY day is quite a drag on ol’ Mama!
I just hope Janis doesn’t go for the “uncomfortable as all get out but pretty” type of couch. A few years ago at our big extended family Thanksgiving dinner I was dismayed that so many of the women wouldn’t allow a recliner in “their” living room. I took the guys’ side. I said, “Ladies, my COUCH reclines.” I am going for comfort—I couldn’t give a tinker’s darn whether an interior decorator approves or not."
I hope everyone will look up ValancyCarmody’s attachment for “the most hideous sofa imaginable.” I did and laughed the loudest and longest laugh I’ve had in a couple of years. Great one, ValancyCarmody! I noticed that the ad says “this model is no longer available” too. I wonder if they ever sold any??
My girlfriend (at the time) went couch shopping with me for my newly acquired house. She insisted that instead of just sitting on the couch to evaluate them, I “flop” down onto them, slouch on them, lay down, sit on the arms, etc. so I could see how comfortable I REALLY would be. It felt awkward, but it made a huge difference. Ended up with a totally different couch than I expected.
My mom has a couch that is 7’ long. The springs have given out and it sags so much, I have to sit on a cushion to get up – and need to be at the end to push off the arm. They don’t make couches like this anymore – hers is the one on The Conners, crocheted granny squares throw and all.
The Edith Ann reminds me of my between-degree roommate’s couch – he was much taller, as I’m guessing was the grandmother he inherited it from. Neither of my last two girlfriends’ feet touched the floor while on it (instead, the last one was lying on her back with her head in my lap when I proposed. Six days ago we celebrated our 33rd anniversary. Did, two years ago, replace the sleeper sofa she brought into the marriage – the years weren’t kind to its springs – with a simpler model her mother brought when she came to live with us.)
Great that Jimmy remembers Laugh In. I was recently reminded about the cute and perky Judy Carne. She had an affair with Joe Perry of Aerosmith (neither was married at the time, is that an affair?)

Edith Ann, now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. I always liked her rocking chair.

I’m having the same problem choosing a recliner.

They should have gone straight to the Snuggle Collection.

I am wondering how many are old enough to get the Edith Ann reference.
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 4 years ago
And probably not one of them is as well made or will last as long as the one you have in your living room…
unless you buy something very expensive, and sometimes not then.
40 years ago, I used to sell a little vintage furniture, along with smaller collectibles… and I was amazed at the shoddy way new furniture was made.
Now 40-year-old furniture looks sturdy, compared to most new pieces.

Oh Jeez – I hadn’t thought about Edith Ann in years. And that’s the truth.

Just get the old couch recovered.

The only time I’ve ever seen a Reign-of-Terror in someone’s home it was always covered with clear heavy plastic sheeting.

Does anyone under the age of 50 get the “Edith Ann” reference?

I prefer my current “piece-of-crap” collection. All the holes and pits are in the right spot for no one to stay very long.

And then, of course, Janis will add so many throw pillows that there’s no place to sit down.

My mother had #3, nobody was allowed on it. I had #1 that converted into a bed or coffee table and was only $99 with matching end table and love seat.

You are supposed to LIE down on them to see if long enough for a comfortable nap

They will end up with the same sofa. They might get it reupholstered.
