Goldieâs being so comforting. A good mystery is about the puzzle, not the punishment! (Especially when it was an accident, and the damage can be mended!)
Certainly Lupin is the one who was most at risk until the whole story was revealed. If anyone would insist on an air high-five at this point, itâd be him.
My take, which is usually wrong, is that itâs the Woman offering the air high-five to the Boy while Lupin reflexively bats at the owl and Goldie tries to stop him.
Have to like Goldie stopping Lupin from causing another accident with the vase in panel 4. Goldie was right, The Boy sure did get a weight lifted off of his chest after he made his âstatementâ to the authorities. I wonder what Goldie gets for her work, does she get to keep the fedora?
I got the kid to confess and he spilled like a glass of warm milk! The woman took pity on him and refused to press charges. Feelings were repaired, along with the owl! My client was cleared, so this case is now a wrapâŠjust gotta keep my client out of troubleâŠsigh!
I love Goldieâs purring encouragement and comfort to the Boy as he confesses to his mom. Then again, she could be self-satisfied for solving the case and getting the perp to confess. But it feels like the former to me.
Youâve been found out, now go and tell Mom (let it out and let it in)
Remember to tell Mom whatâs in your heart (hey Boy)
Then youâll start to make it better
Better better better better better, ah!
(Pucky then ânah, nah, nahââs until nap time)
[John Lennon / Paul McCartney ââHey Judeâ, at least in its studio configuration, has eighteen repetitions of the chorus, each chrous containing nine ânahsâ.â â according to quora]
International Strange Music Day âSome folks think popular music is âstrange.â Not hardly. You want strange, listen to some âmodernâ classical compositions. While technically (mathematically) music, and often challenging to play, Iâve no notion of why anyone would, let alone listen to them. Badly played bagpipes ainât in it!
Can Opener Day âWhile many things can be used to open a metal can, a dedicated tool is a real convenience. For shear usefulness (pun intended) itâs hard to beat the P-38, once standard issue in C-ration packs, now found all over the world. The P-38 can opener got itâs name from the fighter aircraft of that designation, almost certainly during WWII, as the P-38 was a supreme âcanâ (armored vehicle) opener.
National Knife Day âProbably the second or third tool humans developed, after the pointy stick and the slightly modified rock. Some folks have a real passion for sharp, pointy thingsâand some, I swear, have no notion of which end of one to hold.
Weather Complaint Day âSend an angry letter or email to the NWS. They need all the help they can get.
Pluto Demoted Day âHeâs very upset about this ⊠Oh, wait, you mean the planet formerly known as a planet. I think you can tell what I think of the quibble redesignation.
National Waffle Day âWaffle thinks itâs about time he was so honored. And because all waffles should be buttered, he wants some. Neow!
Lupin and Goldieâs antics are confusing a situation which would have been much clearer otherwise, but Goldieâs just trying to block Lupinâs entranced attempts to play with the newly fixed vase, she isnât talking to anybody. The Boy is being cajoled by his mum.
OT: thank you Denny for posting the link to Tiny Kittens. One of the litter (7!) born on Friday didnât make it, and how can I be so upset about 3-day old kitten? One gets attached, real fast!

Pucky dons his Beatles wig and sings:
Hey Boy, donât feel so bad
Take a sad sitch and make it better
Remember to tell Mom âbout your part
Then you can start to make it better
Hey Boy, donât be afraid
You were made to speak out and tell her
The minute you let her in, you will all win
As you begin to make it better
And anytime you feel the pain
Hey Boy, refrain
Donât keep holding in your guilt and shame
For well you know that itâs no relief
To let them believe
That Lupinâs the one they need to blame
Na-na-na, na, na
Na-na-na, na
Hey Boy, donât let Goldie down
Youâve been found out, now go and tell Mom (let it out and let it in)
Remember to tell Mom whatâs in your heart (hey Boy)
Then youâll start to make it better
Better better better better better, ah!

The Peanut Butter Phantom
(All I Ask of You)
Sophie: Iâm so nervous, I know I did a fine job singing last night.
But what about singing again tonight?
Can I do it again night after night?
Can I keep on singing and do it alright?
Lupin: Youâll do just fine.
You know that we all love you,
No matter what weâll all keep on believing in you.
Do not worry,
Donât worry.
âŠâŠ.
Sophie, donât be nervous,
Forget your stage-fright fears,
Youâre fine,
Just keep on singing,
Applause weâll all be bringing!
Just do what you love to,
You know you can sing,
Do whatever your thing is,
And that is what to sing is!
Sophie: Say youâll stay with me and watch my performance,
Give me all of your encouragement!
Let me know that you enjoyed my acting,
Let me know that whatever I do,
Youâll like me, thatâs all I ask of you!

Unseen Voice:
I lent you my theatre,
Made your plays take wing,
Performances like no other,
Now whereâs my Peanut Butter?
Your plays are very charming,
Weâre very entertained,
But I want my Peanut Butter!
âŠâŠ.
Sophie: Say you enjoy the play and my performance,
Iâll go on stage and sing and perform for you!
Lupin: Even if I canât really hear your singing,
I know youâll do fine, I know thatâs true,
Have fun, thatâs all I ask of you!
Chandelier: CRASH!
Unseen Voice: Hey, that wasnât us!
