Ouroboros and logic….

It’s cute how these kids still look up to Frazz like this. :)

Its strange, I’ve had several dogs and none of them have ever resembled me, not even after years of living together.

She kind of resembles Frazz already…

Caulfield, that doesn’t even make any sense. Just because Frazz doesn’t resemble anyone else, it doesn’t mean his dog wouldn’t come to resemble him. It just means his dog wouldn’t come to resemble anyone other than him.

A logic circle in search of a break

For Caulfield’s logic to work, resemblance has to be commutative. I think resemblance can be commutative, but is not necessarily so. One can have a resemblance relationship in which both items in the pair are compared to each other mutually, but one can also have a resemblance relationship in which one item of the pair sets a standard and the other item of the pair is evaluated against that standard. In the second case, resemblance would not be commutative, and Caulfield’s logic would fail. On the one hand, my wife and a friend of ours resemble each other to the point that people sometimes take them for sisters. On the other hand, if I were a very saintly person someone might think I resemble Buddha but nobody’s going to think that Buddha resembles me.

I liked Caulfield’s discussions better in the classroom. Maybe they’ll be back again some day.

I have always thought that Frazz looks like a grown up Calvin

Except for the whole -wealthy-songwriter-still-working-as-a-janitor thing, Frazz is actually doesn’t just resemble, he is a stereotype of the “Scatter-bicycle-parts-all-along-the-trail-and-think-you’re-getting-back-to-nature” crowd.

Back when my back allowed to do such things, I’d always take a garbage bag when hiking on an established public trail; never came back with it less than half full of bike parts I’d picked up (in between dodging bicyclists tearing like maniacs down the trail).

Frazz is a human Labrador retriever.

Don’t get me wrong, I despise bullying in all its forms, but Caulfield has been cruising for a wedgie these last few days.

His is faulty logic, imo.

Just one request: Please don’t try to reassemble Frazz.

what a fun way to say that Frazz is a good role model for kids

A girl who wants to resemble a man. Progressive?

I cry foul there – this logic doesn’t work. Just because Frazz doesn’t resemble someone else doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a particular “look”. So, the fact that Frazz is unique NOW doesn’t mean that such will always be the case – say if he got a dog.
