Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I would give a lot to hear the Boy pronounce “athleticism” at three years old. (I have no doubt he knows the word, though, especially if there’s been sports TV on recently!)
The reason beavers are such great dam builders is because the sound of trickling water is like Nails On A Chalkboard. The sound is irritating to them. Their ears are very sensitive. So when the strip had “thwack”… all I could think of was the judges of this competition wanting to break up the contest… because the noise would be too much for them.
This reminds me of a story about my (then) young cousin. She drew a picture of a smiling bear with a long line going just over its head. When her mom asked her what it was, she said, “It’s a happy polar bear because the bullet missed him.” (They lived in Alaska at the time.)
We need Puck to interview these two and give us the “beaver interest” angle to the story. Who are these two determined beavers? What led them to becoming tennis players? And above all, what is behind the rivalry that has made it so personal between them?
Zero-Tasking Day: You (many of you) got the hour back that THEY stole last spring, so you can relax and stop trying to catch up. Remember: Life may be a rat race, but the winners cross that finish line last.
National Vinegar Day: Go ahead and be a sourpuss. For something that comes from rot (we call it by the euphemism “fermentation”) vinegar has astonishing properties as a preservative and antiseptic. The Roman legions conquered the world with it: a beverage called posca made from water, vinegar, and honey which is both refreshing and restorative.
National Author’s Day: Writing well is hard work—which is possibly why so few do. “Anyone can write a book,” how often have we heard that sneer? There is some truth to it, but relatively few can write a good book, and even they are often compelled to write “mortgage lifters.” “Some books are to be tasted. Others may be sampled. But some few should be chewed and digested.”
Speaking of chewed and digested, it is National Calzone Day: otherwise known as pizza in a clam shell, the true “stuffed” pizza. “Calzone” means “sock,” as in “sock it to me.”
National Deep Fried Clams Day: The perfect cure for the cold, clammy feelings you had last night. Fortunately for those of us who enjoy fried clams, the last “Humongous, Giant Clam” succumbed years ago to a clampoon in the hands of Reuben Clamsoe. If you are unfamiliar with this bit of history, check out the works of Arlo Guthrie, specifically the “Ballad of Reuben Clamsoe.”
Speaking of pizza clams, yes, calzone can be deep fried. Apparently deep fried pizza is a thing in parts of Great Britain, where all food is either boiled or deep fried into submission. Talk about a cholesterol bomb—I can hear the arteries crackling even from here.
I’m back from the hospital (heart attack) and have LOTS of “favorite comics” to catch up on.
The bad thing about hospitals is missing my daily comics (I have a “dumb phone”), the constant blood tests, the IV lines TKO, and especially the unending number of stickers for heart leads.
If anybody lost a friend/family member while I was out: I’m sorry and you have my sympathy.
If anybody was sick— I send you my best wishes to get well.
Now, I’m off to read many days worth of go comics without the many comments (to save time.)
One Beeber is more than enough, thank you. Would be best if we could get rid of that one.
Now two beavers (yes, I know the boy was saying two beavers, not Beber) is different. Personally, I picture them as more ping pong players. Think that came from a Looney Tunes or Disney shorty depicting two beavers playing ping pong.

The boy is following in his mom’s talented footsteps, and the beavers look a bit like Angus the ghost cat.

And yes, this is a real idea from the Boy! I asked him permission to share this and that’s his drawing in the last panel too.

Elton John: Rocket Man
Went to the court at 9 am
Practiced in front of all my friends
And I’ll show them who’s the best beaver by then!
I’ll do my serve and never fail
Who needs a racket, I’ve got my tail!
…….
And I think it’s gonna be a long, long match
‘Till match point’s scored, my game’s up to scratch
A game of love, I am gonna play
Let’s go, go, go
Racket tail
Racket tail, game, set, match point gonna play right now!

I thought tennis played with only beaver tails
Was meant for someone else but not for me
“Love” was out to get them
That’s the way it seemed
Giant buck teeth haunted all my dreams
Then I saw the pace, now I’m a be(l)eaver
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
Cat above, oh leave it to beavers
I couldn’t unsee it if I tried
I thought talent was more or less a Cat-given thing
The more He gave the less I got, oh yeah
What’s the use in tryin’
All I get is strain
Instead of brilliance I get disdain
Then I saw the Boy’s work, now that’s ingenious
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
He’s so clever and more than ever
I couldn’t do it if I tried
