Iāve often thought that editors (all the varieties) are unsung heroes. Iāve done a bit of copy-editing at an online story site. Itās a LOT of twitchy little detail work, and though the authors mostly claim they want it done, they mostly seem to appreciate it more the less you find for them to correctā¦
The English word āgraffitiā is singular or plural. If the editor were editing in Italian, then heād have a valid point. The word āgraffitoā in English is rarely used outside of archaeological writings.
I am going to admit to being a dick about the singluar/ plural of criterion and criteria ā¦ but only in a work setting with people who should know better.
This is an example of an incorrect version of a word becoming ācommon usageā. At least this wasnāt a pun strip, since this follows the usual structure for those.
Rat is correct. If he had said āCheck out this grafitti, Reed.ā he would be wrong. Because he said this āpiece of grafittiā he was referring to one item out of a larger group ā perhaps all the grafitti on that particular street. Send Reed back to his dark, little room.

Grammatical and word use editing was traditionally performed by the copy editors.
Modern journalism has nearly made that job extinct, cutting the copy editors out to save a buck.
