my folks never minded me being late – i’d always find a phone booth and call them when i was supposed to be in and let them know situation…never got in trouble
I think the only reason my Dad let me have a motorcycle was that it was impossible to sneak in late on it. You could hear that big beast roar blocks away!
I even tried cutting the engine and pushing that it home – he still was waiting up for me ( and trying not to laugh ).
When I was in college, grad school, and after while still living at home (working part time in college, full time during grad school and after) I would visit my boyfriend at his parents house after work or classes at night (and this was from when I was 20 to 27, not a kid). My parent’s house has the master bedroom up a flight of stairs from the other bedrooms. My mom left their bedroom door when they went to bed. I was to close the door when I got home so they would know I was home – mom told me she could not sleep until I was home.
One night I tripped near the top of the stairs. Hit the door and then the floor HARD and screamed in pain. My parents did not wake up. So much for she can’t sleep until I was home.

Except he would know that he wasn’t there before.
I’ve thought of doing similar, though, pretending to have gotten up for a drink rather than just heading to bed…

Ok, I admit, that’s pretty clever. I wouldn’t have thought of that back then.
