My favorite leftovers were always the stuffing, green bean casserole, pie (especially pecan or sweet potato) and of course any leftover meat (especially if the main course was ham). Normally these would make for a great Friday breakfast/brunch/lunch or a snack to have while watching Black Friday football while the wife and daughter go to the mall and fight the crowds though this year they are limiting their trips to the malls and score and the college game schedule is lighter than usual as many teams have been forced to cancel games due to the virus… Nonetheless it is a day to relax and still be thankful for the things we have!
Lord Help Me! I was so stuffed from my feast… I couldn’t cook my second dessert! I have a fridge full of more than double what I ate! My cats have little plates of food for when they want to nibble. And just at the point that I am wondering if Friday is the National Pepto Day… my neighbor calls. She has been watching over me for the past few months (I have been going through some horrible stuff). She wanted to fix me a plate from her table! “You can have it to eat tomorrow!” I begged her not to!!! I’m not going to be able to finish off the leftovers I have… this weekend!!! Those Dried Fruit Cookies might take a while to bake!!!
Puck is always dressed holiday-appropriate for Black Friday. (I believe I’ve mentioned the two ferals who used to hang out on my patio: McDonnell and Douglas. I called them that because they were jet black.)
I love Thanksgiving leftovers. I actually went to the deli today and bought more turkey because I didn’t think I had enough leftovers to freeze for January and February.
I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.
My new neighbors had a colossal Thanksgiving party, with a multitude of people coming and going. As far as I could see not one them wore a mask in our hallway or elevators, despite signs everywhere. I heard some of them say they were leaving by way of the stairs because some other residents yelled at them in the lobby as they were getting on the elevator.
O.T. Swan Eaters fans Georgia posted an apology. No new strip until Monday. What fascinates me is discovering she is working a day ahead, not 6 weeks ahead! That’s how BCN was the first years as well. Here’s her explanation: “Apologies!! Swan Eaters will return on Monday, we’re taking a mini-holiday break!Translation: I made Thanksgiving dinner today, cleaned up, finally sat down to rest, and realized at almost 10:30 that I had not sent in the new strip. I’m so sorry!! If I sketch it now, it will be a tired hot mess. Monday will return strong, I promise! I hope everyone had as good of a Thanksgiving as can be had in 2020, and on Monday we’ll find out if the hut heard Olwen’s call…”
I hope Partner enjoys the leftovers we had. He put the dressing and mashed potatoes side by side in the same container. That was okay. Then he poured the leftover gravy on top. I cannot repeat my comments when I discovered that. I put gravy only on the turkey. It goes nowhere else. No leftovers for me this year. Ruined. Bah humbug!!!!
Thanks for the timely reminder, Georgia. Thanksgiving Dinner redux are in the freezer now; I’ll be happy for them in a few weeks. There are still plenty of leftovers in the fridge, too.
My daughters first time cooking dinner. Honestly… she needs more lessons. So, wasn’t worth saving the left overs… Thinking about gifting her my Grandmothers cookbook. A lot of great meal have came out of it. It was gifted to her in the 1920’s from her sister when she got married. Auntie said she started out as a lousy cook.
Buy Nothing Day: An excellent sentiment. I’ve never understood why people put off shopping for gifts until the day after Thanksgiving. I have never gone shopping on Black and Blue Friday. The cartoon character Tank McNamara™, a retired NFL lineman, when asked why he was afraid of shopping on Black Friday, replied, “Because in the NFL, there are rules!” Well, sorta. Still, a valid point.
National Leftovers Day: Do tell. Sometimes I think that the best thing about Thanksgiving is the leftovers. Traditionally in our house, Thanksgiving dinner is continued for at least the next three days. Maybe we were hobbits in a previous incarnation. The beauty of it is no cooking, just reheating, and very few dishes. Some take it to extremes:
Sinkie Day: A sinkie is someone who eats over the sink—either someone who is a very messy eater, or who thinks the food may be slightly more than off … hork! As you may have guessed, I was taught this was uncouth. However, there are some foods too messy to be eaten anywhere else.
National Pins and Needles Day: Do not sew discord and leave others on pins and needles. Such activity is needless, and pins you as a bad character. Use rivets instead …
National Bavarian Cream Pie Day: Which is, of course, a French invention, and contains more air than any self-respecting Bavarian would put into anything except a tire. But then, “haute cuisine” is all about the presentation, not the substance. And speaking of presentation …
Pie in the Face Day: INCOMING! These days, you have to get the target’s consent, first, or risk legal problems. Therefore, since this is Leftovers Day and there is probably leftover pumpkin pie, I propose this be Put Pie in Your Face Day—why the mouth is sometimes called “your pie hole.” So get pied … it’s better than being black and blue …
I had a “Close Encounter” with Tux this afternoon! Hubby had placed some kibble on the half-bath’s window’s outdoor “cat porch” earlier and most of it was gone. Very slowly, I put another half-handful out there for him, talking to him all the while. He was not impressed. I added some of the teeth cleaning treats that Tom Dooley doesn’t like. Tux decided that 5 of those in a small pile was worth getting up on the porch for. (There’s a piece of plywood laying across 2 sawhorses, makes a nice safe table to view the goings on up on the porch and the table is about 18 inches below the porch)
I got another “finger sniff” out of Tux but he’s not up to “gum rubs” yet. About a half hour ago, Hubby went to the window, saw Tux out there, saw most of the food I’d given him was gone and gave him some more. He couldn’t achieve “finger sniff” with Tux, yet.

The trouble with putting li’l tiny space suits on your leftovers is you can’t see what’s inside the bowls.

You can’t have leftovers of the future. That would imply you haven’t had the food yet.

I love that Elvis is flicking his tail tip in disapproval. But why does he have takeout coffee instead of his usual BCN cup?

There’s a lot of good food still left around here
Don’t want to see no waste, it better disappear
Thanksgiving’s over and your future’s really clear
So eat it, just eat it
You’re not nearly done, you better have a game plan
Gotta make room for that space goo from a can
Reheat the stuffin’, better dirty more pans
So eat it, don’t want it to go bad
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Forget your diet – you’ve cheated
Marigold said it and she’s so right
Leftovers in li’l spacesuits are a delight
Just eat it, eat it
Eat it, eat it, eat it
