I think the best thing we can say about this situation is that Lupin is still at the desk and not within reach of the boy and his paint-hands. Although Lupin’s sparkle powers appear to be increasing.
Today is the 2 year “gotcha day” for Cole rescued from the drive shaft of a car in a parking lot. We are also watching closely our 15 year old Bella for soon we must be making a decision for her to cross over. It is never easy.
That reminds me! Trivia Time! For all the people who like Harley Quinn of DC fame. Her hair/makeup is Red on her Right and Blue on her Left. In some educational circles… to teach little kids Left/Right… they will color shoes, have a bracelet, or some other indicator… like Harley Quinn does! Red – Right… Blue – Left.
Look likes the Boy has already done a number on his shirt! Puck realizes the odds of not angering old St Nick are dwindling fast while Lupin maintains his sparkling glow.
Even though Artists are not understood in their own time, I think the critics are going to be particularly harsh in their reviews on this gallery opening.
Wright Bothers Day: On this day in 1903 the Wright brothers made one small step. Sixty-three years, six months and three days later that step ended in a giant leap for mankind.
Kitty Hawk, Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed.
National Maple Syrup Day: Break out the waffles, pancakes, French toast, or even hot cereal. If you’ve never had pure maple syrup, it is something you should taste at least once in your life. The cause of its unique flavor is poorly understood. Be warned that once you have tasted it, commercial “maple” syrups will be disappointing. Darn it, now I want waffles, and the only one available is furry and would greatly resent having maple syrup poured on him—though that would get me my minimum daily requirement of cat hair.
Long ago we decided that instead of moving, we’d expand the house. The architect had two great ideas — the master bedroom would become a library with floor to ceiling bookcases (which I filled immediately) and the wall between the kitchen and the dining room would be removed (replaced with cabinets/storage so you could talk to people while cooking or washing dishes). He understood our priorities – books and food.
The night before the workmen arrived to smash the wall, I put the boys (7 and 2) in nothing but oversized, ratty t-shirts and we painted on that wall. Among the pictures painted, I still remember older brother made a Buzz Lightyear, I did a very buxom Wonder Woman. Somewhere I have photos of our fabulous mural.
When the workmen arrived the next day, there was the joking — are you SURE you want us to take down the wall now? — but also some surprise that I had let them do it in the first place.
I dunno, it seemed like a no-brainer. Who doesn’t want to paint on the walls? And the wall was going away. Why not? Of course they covered themselves, well mostly the shirts, in paint.
Thanks for the memory reminder, Georgia. Nice to think of a happier, simpler time.
In my relaxed middle age having been educated by my cats, I assume that I would want to preserve the boy’s art work on my living room wall, to be immortalized in a photograph and then painted over later once it becomes a source of acute embarrassment to the nascent artist in his teens.
It might be the artist’s gene playing up in the boy, he is after all the son of one of my favourite cartoon artists.
Poor Puck, trying to talk reason into someone who doesn’t want to hear reason. Not even listening to the warnings that Santa is watching (probably more afraid of Elf on the Shelf even though that’s nothing)
Shoulda gotten him some wrapping paper, Puck. Coulda unrolled a length (say four or five feet) and had him decorate the inside of it so it could be framed. Course cutting it might have been difficult since you’d have had to use scissors (you’re a grown-up cat so you’re responsible, though it would probably have been better to try cutting with your claws)
You know, all week I’ve been thinking this will end badly, but… Today I just suddenly thought. The lovely Ms. Dunn is more… free-spirited than many a mother. It could be that The Boy really does know his mother very well and that a rainbow on the wall may in fact make her happy. Or if not the painting itself, the fact that he thought of something to make her happy and went about making it happen- that’s a lot of effort to make someone smile, and don’t we all appreciate when someone tries to make us smile?

Mommy should paint clear gloss over it. Keep it for posterity.

Even since the prehistoric times, walls were always a canvas. Go ahead and make your ancestors proud, kid.

Boy, just look at Puck’s face. He’s practically a Tiny Babushka of Rage! Perhaps rethink this plan?

Black is black
Mom wants her old life back
It’s grey, it’s grey
Since it went away
Oh-oh, what can I do?
’Cause I-I-I-I-I,
I’m all red & blue
If I had my way
She’d be glad today
She needs good cheer
So happy again
Oh-oh, I’m ready to go
’Cause I-I-I-I-I,
I’ll do a rainbow
All colors I’ll use,
I’ve nothing to lose
It won’t take long
Maybe smiles
Would come back to her
What can go wrong?
Bad is bad
That Mommy is so sad
It’s time, it’s time
That she found peace of mind
Oh-oh, it bugs poor Pucky so
’Cause Pu-u-u-u-uck
Puck’s tellin’ me “no”

Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher: Rainbow Connection (Well somebody had to do it)
Why are there so many walls without rainbows?
A blank canvas ready for joy
Rainbows are troublesome, just messy paintings,
Drawn by a mischievous boy.
So it would seem, and I know Puck believes it,
He just might be wrong, wait and see,
Soon we will find out, the lovely connection,
The orbsters, the songsters, and me!
…….
Who said that every wall must be clean and spotless?
With only a blank white background
Somebody said it once, and we all believed it
But look at what we have all found!
Colorful rainbows bring hope for a new day,
That we need so desperately,
Soon we will find out, the lovely connection,
The orbsters, the songsters, and me!
…….
All of us reading right now we know there is still some magic!
…….
Have you been stuck inside, and miss friends and family?
I know that feeling as well,
But there is still a place we can share joys and sorrows,
Adventures too numerous to tell,
Some rainbow painting, and comics amazing,
It’s something we all live to see,
Soon we will find out, the lovely connection,
The orbsters, the songsters, and me!
