The new story is underway, and it looks like Mysta Chimera will also get involved. She and Vera are not the best of friends by any means after that incident on the movie a while back. It should be interesting.
With Abner now seemingly a true cadaver (sigh, I’m gonna miss that evil creep) and with today’s strip continuing the plotline from yesterday’s last panel, it appears we’ve reached the start of a new story. When I’ve decided a new story’s started, I do a list of every Tracy story on GoComics. Unfortunately, soon after I started doing this GC imposed a stupid, asinine character limit of only 2000 characters which includes every letter, space, punctuation, & html, which means I have to do this over several posts. I’ll do my initial introduction in this post and start the list in the next one, because otherwise, I can’t even get past the second year.
My notes are fairly simple. Just my name for the story (usually the name of the main villain or villains, unless they just aren’t the emphasis) followed by the dates the story began and ended. If someone was the main villain for more than one story, I add a “II” and so on to emphasize this. If more than one villain from a past story are in the same story committing major crimes, I include them altogether. Finally, for the 3 cases of more than one villain with the same name (Chameleon, Mr. Crime, Shaky) I add, “The Second” in front of their names.
Minit Mysteries Note: at the request of people who wanted to see these listed here, I’ve decided to make a separate post for them to keep the listing of Mike Curtis stories in as few posts as possible.
At the start of the GoComics archive, the writer was the late Mike Kilian. Personally, I like his work on Tracy and think he’s very underrated. At the very least, he knew how to tell a story in the daily strip format where every day, something happens that moves the story along, a quality his successor sorely lacked. I recommend anyone here who hasn’t read these stories to check them out.
Man, the character design quality plummeted between yesterday’s strip and today’s. They’re obviously not even of the same person. Comic artists got stand-ins?
Kind of sad to bring Abner back as a bumbling villian…and find out he’s dead after the fact……still have no idea why honeymoon and crystal were injected into that storyline either. They shouldn’t have killed off Sawtooth, the only other scary villian in a long time….now another Mysta soap opera (yawn)
No surprise that Mysta is doing some volunteer work. She also works at the Lunar Compound at Diet Smith Industries. Given her unusual physiology, I’m guessing she volunteers at a food bank rather than a blood bank. Here in Chicago, the Greater Chicago Food Depository has been working overtime to help those in need. Always a pleasure to see Mysta Chimera.
1-VERA SEMILITUDE: The Condo Board is all up my butt for that unapproved door to my unit but I don’t care about that today…
2-…I’ve found my BUSTY BAZOOMS INSPIRATION!
3-…Maybe she’ll have an equally well-endowed sidekick named…DEE DEE DOUBLES! OH MAN! It’s a good thing Straightedge is gay or else the crimes these two commit would NEVER be prosecuted!
It is interesting that Mysta’s hair is depicted as white (platinum blond) today. This is the way it was colored in Gould’s day. Since her return to the strip, her hair color has been depicted using a shade of yellow to indicate blond. I like the platinum much better and is more indicative of the original Moon Maid.
…..that’s about as “original” as Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble (unwittingly: ‘twas actually “Scat” Von Rocktoven’s deviltry…) cribbing Hoagy Carmichael’s music to “write” an “original” song……….
J. Straightedge Trustworthy…..that sounds like a columnist or editor-in-chief. I suppose he will be sight unseen until the second or third week of this storyline.
Did they hire a new colourist at GC or did the regular one come back from holiday? It looks like it’s coloured like the Fearless Fossdick character, which is suppose to parody Dick Tracy.
It’s as if someone at GC said of the last story with Abner and Rikki; “We know what’s going to happen at the end, so lets do this seriously. So let’s get someone who can handle this with care.” and as soon it’s finished they got the rugular guy back.
I’ve been reading this str[p since 1944. Gould didn’t miss too often but in the 60’s, in addition to getting “too Spacy” he introduced characters like Vera Alldid. Terrible name, jerky character. I mean “Sawdust” and “The Invisible Tribe”??? Even the comments in the recently finished IDW series alluded to this downturn. Now, for the nerd fanboys, due to anything creative, Mike etc. are resurrecting these stooges. Prepare for a bad 6 weeks guys and women (if any read this). But Neil seems interested, so I guess it’s okay

Somehow I doubt many, if any, cartoonists have such cool doors to their studio, along with an awesome logo on it. But it sure does look nice.

cue the dark ambient music with discordant overtones which, although broadly tonal, is inflected with chromatic and polytonal passages

As a writer, I understand his pain. But having a picture of such a beauty can blast though a lot of writing blocks. Lets hope this one is a good arc.

@Joe Stanton and Mike Curtis – You last cartoon strip, Abner Kadaver and Rikki left much to be desired. The ending was pathetic! Poor Chester Gould!

Well as someone posted, Vera Alldid, is like one can say “living large”. Who has their name and career title on doors like that?
