You slipped the cage to go outside? You do know that it’s often dangerous out here, right? I happen to know that there are, or at least were owls around here!
Another blast from the past. I recall seeing the guinea pigs at Winifred’s animal shelter in some of the older BCN strips over on Georgia’s site including one who was a scribe and recorded the saga of the “Owl and the Pussy Cat” where the Robber Mice got over on the owl. I love how it all ties together, no holes in this plot.
…somehow, it never really occurred to me until just now that when people talk about yellow pencils, they actually mean yellow pencils; around here, we only have tangerine coloured Dixons, and fancy decorated pencils that have, like, Scooby Doo on them, and stuff.
My brother and I had guinea pigs in the late 80s. Once they’d established that George was dominant over Fluffy, they were very sweet, wonderful pets. Seeing Clover’s friendly face makes me miss them.
Where I used to work, there was a paved walking track. On the other side of a chain link fence was a row of houses. Not blaming any of the residents necessarily, but this was such a weird situation. I went out on my lunch break to walk, on a very cold January day with sleet and snow coming down (a measure of how badly I needed to get away from that place). I saw a small cardboard box under some trees, near the fence. Something made me check the box, something I normally wouldn’t have done. Inside was a black and white Guinea pig that some @#$%^& had tossed out! I took him inside and fortunately one of my coworkers wanted to adopt him. “Checkers” had a few more happy years before he crossed the Bridge. I still get angry when I think about somebody tossing him out to freeze to death.
Mock hearing, Clover. The trail is a complete farce. The vile raccoons need to look legit or else everyone will see what warmongers they truely are. Jules is innocent!!!!!
(Well, innocent of the false claim of being a spy. He’s not innocent of being an annoyance. But that seems to be his eternal job.)
From Georgia on facebook: “Clover is back! Longtime readers may recognize Clover as the faithful scribe (and weaver!) who created the Golden Mouse tapestry. I figured he would definitely have been on the scene in this story for the local trial of the century! (Or at least the trial of 1991, according to the cats.) If you’ve never read the BCN adventure “The Golden Mouse Saga,” you can find it in our fourth book “Elvis Puffs Out.” You can find it here or through your local bookstore: https://smile.amazon.com/…/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm…Or you can catch up on GoComics here: https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2016/06/20 It ran from June 20 to July 28 2016, back when BCN was only updated twice a week! And when I wrote, drew, inked, and painted most of those long strips over 1-3 days. Whoa, past-Georgia, dang! I’m really grateful for the pacing (and limits!!) newspapers gave me. I was on the road to burn out for sure… but, they are beautiful to look at and I’m forever very proud of the web strips. I’m so happy they are in print now in our BCN books! I like to high five my past self whenever I look back on them now. I don’t know how she did it (with a baby and a three year old, too!) but I’m so grateful she did. I hope you’re excited to see Clover again, or to meet him now! It was fun getting to know him better while I wrote this new story. He is a cool little guy.”

And suddenly I’m getting flashbacks of a cute anime about pet hamsters who go on adventures while their humans are none the wiser. :D

Of course, Clover is going to slip a carrot in before the action.

If I know guinea pigs (and I do, I really do), that pencil would be chewed to smithereens before it could be used to take notes.

Guinea pigs are the Watchers of the neighborhood. They watch, record history, but never interfere.

From 1927: I’m Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover
I’m looking over
With my friend Clover
That lived at Freddie Quinn’s before,
Outside recording a document’ry
Writing a story that makes history!
No need explaining
There’s no refraining
From covering a trial in store!
I’m looking over
With my friend Clover
